Here's a BBC profile on King Zahir Shah. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/1573181.stm However I'm not sure this thread is in the correct place so I expect it will be moved or deleted. |

I was watching this show, don't ask why,:o and it was called "Survival of the Richest." In the game there are two groups, the rich kids and the poor kids. Well, one of the rich kids happened to be a member of the Afghani Royalty. They only gave her first name which was "Sammy" and her net worth, actually her families net worth was over a billion dollars. I was wondering what was her case. Is she really part of the royal family or anything you guys know about her?? Thanks.:)

| What has Become of the Afghani Royals? Well, at least two sisters of one line of the family live in San Francisco. I do not disclose their names to protect their privacy, but they can found on the links Ben posted. I went to law school with one of them in the late 80s and early 90s. The other sister is an artist. The law student sister and I were part of the same group. On many occasions we went bar hopping and at times had a few too many. I heard rumors that she was royalty, but at the time I didn’t think much of it. The sisters were pleasant and not pretentious. They were of means, but not apparently more than the others in the group. As far as I recall, the family came to the US via Switzerland. They first landed in DC and then moved to Los Angeles. After 9/11 and there was talk about restoration of the monarchy, I looked for her on Afghani royal sites, etc. And low and behold, there she was! Last edited by Quin; 08-16-2006 at 01:21 AM. |

King Mohammed Zahir Shah is actually now living quietly in Afghanistan. He has been given the ceremonial title 'Father of the Nation'.I reckon that the U.S. Government made a huge mistake in insisting that Afghanistan adopt a banana republican system.Afghanistan is better off under a monarchy,as the people desire both unity & peace. The King of Afghanistan represents both as well as continuity. What do you think? Aidan. |

I think that I agree! However, we have a problem: Monarchy had too bad press and people seems to follow what press said. So, I suppose they wouldn't choice a Monarchy, even if -it's my opinion, you can have other it is the better system of governement it can be...:unhappy: But as I always said, time is the better teacher we can have...and maybe people changes their opinion. I'm relieved that the Queen and her son could rest in their homeland. It's always sad to be buried in exile. Hope that Afghanistan could become a Monarchy again, if its people wants it. Vanesa. |

Condolences to the Afghan Royal family and the country. Losing a Father of The Nation must be very hard to Afghanistan. From the news I understand that his body is now lie in state at the Kabul Mosque. Can members of the public pay their last respect there? Will there be any dignitaries attending his funeral tomorrow? Is this recognised as a State Funeral. Why does it take about 3 days for a Muslim to bury the deceased as in Islam the body must be buried very soon? Thank you for answers. |
