As I wrote earlier in the current events thread for the King and Queen, an announcement about a State Visit from Sweden to Turkey has been expected.

The official announcement came yesterday from the Government Offices, confirming that King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will pay a State Visit to Turkey from 29 May to 1 June 2006, on the invitation of the President of Turkey, Ahmet Necdet Sezer.

A business delegation as well as a delegation with a health focus will accompany Their Majesties on the trip. The programme will consists of visits to Ankara, Efesos and Istanbul.

It has been announced that the Deputy Prime Minister, Bosse Ringholm, and the Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy, Barbro Holmberg, will be included in the entourage accompanying the King and Queen on next week's historical State Visit to Turkey.

On the official Swedish Royal Court website - still not most reliable! - it now says that the state visit is first going to start May 30th, not on the 29th. Maybe they made (yet another-) mistake.
I just hope we'll get to see pics from a state dinner; not seeing any pics like that from Queen Margrethe's state visit to Greece so far is frustrating enough.

Barbro Holmberg is by the way Tiger Woods' mother in law.

In answer to Post # 5, it's a full state visit (no matter who mixed up the dates). So of course it should be a given that both The King AND The Queen of Sweden will go to Turkey.

Yes Boris, it's really confusing! The webmasters of the Royal Court make mistakes all the time, and then corrects them afterwards, it happens on a weekly basis...

And for this State Visit to Turkey, the original press release from the Government Offices said the dates would be 29 May to 2 June, now the Royal Court's website says 30 May to 1 June - how confusing is that!? I guess we'll have to wait and see, but I changed the dates in the title of this thread, but it might have to be changed again, when we know the result.

The political situation in Turkey is not very stable at the moment. The opinion among some Swede's is that they should not go at all because of the internal unrest and not so democratic government in Turkey. The King and Queen may just be doing the best of the situation - not offending their hosts too much while cutting the state visit down to a shorter time span.

Since this is a State Visit I'm assuming that there will be a gala of some sort. Am I right?

I can only hope you're right, Robby. A lot of criticism is surrounding this visit in the Swedish press for political reasons as Turkey indeed is not the most shining example of a democracy, but that's a different matter.
I still hope for just one full gala event but I believe this state visit might turn out to be rather subdued - we will find out soon enough.

Queen Silvia looks stunning. The outfit is a wonderful colour on her, and I even like the headpiece she's wearing (it reminds me of the headpieces Crown Princess Mary has worn on several occasions).

This article mentions a few more things the King and Queen will be doing while in Turkey.

queen silvia lookes stunning! :)
I love her outfit and that hat (?) ;)

I really like what Queen Silvia is wearing! Nice colors and very stylish head piece, it really suits her!

The Queen looks wonderful and i really like the head (hat) thing...:)
Can´t wait to see some gala pics (i really hope there will be a gala, but there usually are at a state visit so let´s hope...)

The Queen is stunning, and I love the hat. It reminds me of the hats from the '40s. Is the outfit new? I don't remember seeing it before.

Yes, I agree she looks stunning!

The Queen is the absolute epitome of elegance here!

Sometimes in the Princess X Recycles Her Clothes threads I groan and secretly wish that certain outfits would never be recycled again and should be burned. And then I see pictures like the Swedish Queen dressed to absolute perfection and wish that she will repeat such an ensemble again because it's so wonderful. Victoria and Madeleine do not need stylists -- they only need to seek the opinon or the example of their mother for good fashion advice!

Queen Silvia looks wonderful. The light pink adds a feminine, youthful touch to the whole look. Sweden should be proud of a Queen that not only works hard but looks good doing it! :)

Queen Silvia

Hello, can someone help me out here? What do you call Queen Silvia's headgear? Is it considered a hat? Or is it a fabric headband where the elastic part is hidden underneath her hair?

Thanks,

Ayvee
