Wednesday 22 May
Official Welcome Ceremony
The King and Queen are welcomed by President Higgins and Mrs Sabina Higgins outside their residence, Áran an Uachtaráin. An official welcome ceremony with national anthems, a Guard of Honour, and tree planting will take place. The Swedish Ministers, the State Secretary and the official delegation take part in the ceremony.
Laying of a wreath
The King lays a wreath at the Garden of Remembrance which honours the those who gave their life in the Irish Independence Fight.
Visit at Croke Park
Croke park is the Headquarters for Irland's largest non-profit association for culture and traditional sports, Gaelic Athletic Association. The King and Queen will be shown the sports hurling and gaelic football.
The Swedish Chamber for Commerce in Ireland will host a lunch, and there will be a possibility for the King and Queen to meet the Swedish Business Delegation.
Reception at the Mayor of Dublin
In the afternoon will the Mayor of Dublin, Ardmhéara, Mr Nial Ring, host a reception for the King and Queen, the Swedish delegation and Irish guests with Swedish connection.
Meeting with the Speakers
The King and Queen are received by the Speaker of the Lower House, Ceann Comhairle, Seán Ó Fearghaíl, and of the Upper House, Cathaoirleach, Denis O’Donovan. The Minister for Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström and State Secretary Maja Fjaestad attend.

State Banquet
President Higgins and Mrs Sabina Higgins host a state banquet in the honour of the King and Queen.

Seminar on Health Issues
The King and Queen participate in the seminar ”Meeting Future Health Challenges”. The seminar is a possibility for the Swedish and Irish governments, experts in the Health sector, Academia, and Enterprises to meet and discuss how the future challenges in the Health area could be met. State Secretary Maja Fjaestad attends, together with Ireland's Minister for Health, both of them are giving an opening speech.
Literature seminar at the National Library
The King and Queen visit a seminar that highlights mutual influence between Irish and Swedish Authors and Poets, and gives a possibility for exchange of experiences and discussions on emigration, immigration through history and until today. The seminar is moderated by Stephen Farran-Lee. In the panel participates Joseph O'Connor, Author and Professor at University of Limerick, Ola Larsmo, Author and Board member of PEN International, Melatu Uche Okorie, Nigerian-born Author living in Dublin, and Marjaneh Bakhtiari, Swedish Author and Journalist born in Iran. The Minister for Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström attends.
In connection with the seminar is the photo exhibition “Portraits of Migration – Sweden beyond the headlines” opened. The exhibition is produced by the Swedish Institute and signed Alexander Mahmoud.
Visit to EirGrid
The King and Queen visit EirGrid, a state-owned company that develops and maintains Ireland's national electric system. There are planned and on-going projects with Swedish companies, among others East-West Interconnector, a green energy project between Ireland and UK. The Minister for Energy and Digital Development Anders Ygeman attends.
Reception for the Swedish Diaspora
The King and Queen meet Swedes living in Ireland at The Stephen’s Green Hibernian Club. The reception is hosted by Ambassador Lars Wahlund.
Meeting with the Prime Minister, An Taoiseach
The King pays a curtsey call to the Prime Minister, An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar TD. The Minister for Energy and Digital Development Anders Ygeman attend together with representatives from the Official Swedish Delegation.
Visit to Science Gallery
The Queen visits Science Gallery. At Science Gallery are young people encouraged to learn through their interests, exciting programs that create creativity in areas where science and culture meet.
Visit to the National Museum
The King and Queen visit the National Museum and are presented to the exhibition "Ór – Ireland’s Gold". The museum contains one of Europe's most important collections of pre-historical gold collections, from 2200 BC to 500 BC. The Minister for Energy and Digital Development Anders Ygeman and State Secretary Maja Fjaestad attend and participate in a panel discussion At the forefront of the Tech Race – what lies ahead for Sweden and Ireland.
The King and Queen's Dinner
The King and Queen host a dinner at Trinity College in honour of President Higgins and Mrs Sabina Higgins. Åsa Jinder, National Spelman (riksspelman) and Key harpist (nyckelharpist), performs together with Maria Johansson on piano.
Friday 24 May - Athlone
Seminar on how digital infrastructure forms society and industry
The King and Queen participate in the seminar on Ericsson Software Campus in Athlone. The seminar gives a possibility for representatives of the Ireland and Sweden's governments, companies, Academia, and other experts to meet and discuss the common challenges in the extension of digital infrastructure in Industry and the society. It is also a possibility to network for further cooperation, as well as trade and investment opportunities. Ericsson Software Campus is one of Ericsson's leading research- and development centers with more than 1000 employees. There is a cooperation with College of Technology i Athlone and Ericsson is involved in the program "Infuse", that aims to create interest for technique among children. The Minister for Energy and Digital Development Anders Ygeman and State Secretary Maja Fjaestad attend.
Marine Institue in Galway
The King and Queen visit Marine Institute in Galway. The Institute's task is to coordinate and promote Ireland's marine research and development, promote financial development and protect the marine environment. An exhibition on sustainable fishery shows how complex fishing data are made to simple maps as support for a sustainable management. State Secretary Maja Fjaestad attends.
Visit to a farm in Burren
The farm lays in the village Ballybornagh, at the border to the counties Galway and Clare, in a dramatic landscape similar to Öland. To protect the large biological diversity, with plats från arctic, alpine and Mediterranean areas, the owner of the farm takes part in the so called Burren Program, that aims to promote sustainable farming and conservation of the landscape and cultural heritage. The King and Queen are presented to the Burren Ridge and its unique biotope. There will be possibility for the King and Queen to speak with the farmer Vincent Keane on animal keeping as a basis to keep the unique Burren landscape. State Secretary Maja Fjaestad attends.
Burren Smokehouse
The King and Queen are shown some locally produced products by Bord Bia, a semi-governmental organisation that works to promote Irish Food Industry. The products, salmon, goat cheese and algae, are part of the Burren Food Trail, that is the Irish government's initiative to promote rural development and entrepreneurship in the region. Burren Smokehouse is an example of how entrepreneurs have contributed to the development of western Ireland through providing products by high quality based on wild Irish salmon. State Secretary Maja Fjaestad attends.
The Minister for Energy and Digital Development Anders Ygeman has a bilateral meeting with Pat Breen TD, Minister of State with special responsibility for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market and Data Protection.

The King and Queen depart Ireland from Shannon Airport and the State Visit is concluded.
