Crown Princess Victoria takes her role as a heir to the throne and future head of state very seriously. And it is becoming increasingly clear that she is stepping up more and more. Or as now, when she takes her seat next to the royal couple for the first time in a whole new context: the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' briefing ahead of next week's state visit to India.
But still unexpected. So what is the reason?

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden will arrive in Delhi on Monday on a five-day visit to India, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
According to a revised advisory issued by the MEA on Sunday, the royal couple is slated to arrive here at 6.55 am. As per the previous advisory, they were scheduled to arrive here on Sunday evening.
King, queen of Sweden to arrive in Delhi on Monday for five-day India visit

A technical problem has forced the royal couple to postpone their departure to India and the state visit there.
The state flight, which would have taken off this morning with also the Minister for Foreign Affaris and the Minister of Trade on board, has been hit by a technical error.
- We would have lifted 08.45 but now we are scheduled to fly regularly at 19.45 tonight instead, says Margareta Thorgren.
Thorgren does not want to go into what is a technical error.
- We do not have that information, but now we are flying tonight instead. It will be a full state visit over four days so we start running right when we land, she says.

As a Swede I'm feeling very uncomfortable about having the King and Queen on a State visit to a country that's been breaking several international laws and conventions during their oppressive crackdown on the population of Kashmir.

I have to give them credit for undertaking this trip and then having to do all of the Nobel events just a few days after they get back. I am ten years younger and I wouldn't want to do it.

The royal court at its website about the first day:
On December 2-6, the King and Queen will visit India at the invitation of President Ram Nath Kovind. The purpose of the state visit is to strengthen the good relations between the countries and the focus is on trade, innovation, climate and democracy.
The five-day visit takes place in New Delhi, Mumbai and Rishikesh.
The royal couple arrived in New Delhi, India, on Monday, December 2, and began the visit with a meeting with India's Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
Official Welcome Ceremony
The State Visit Welcome Ceremony took place at the President's official residence, Rashtrapati Bhavan, where the Royal Couple was received by President Ram Nath Kovind and Savita Kovind. The King then inspected the guard of honor.
Rashtrapati Bhavan was built following the decision to move India's capital from Calcutta to Delhi. The residence stood clear in 1926 and was then called Viceroy's house. When India got its first president in 1950, the building was renamed Rashtrapati Bhavan which means "president's house".
Wreath-laying ceremony
At Rajghat , the King laid a memorial wreath from the royal couple dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. The wreath was placed on a black marble slab that stands on the spot where Gandhi was cremated on January 31, 1948, the day after he was murdered.
Meeting with the Prime Minister
In the Hyderabad house, the king met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk about bilateral relations between Sweden and India. After the meeting, Modi invited the King and the Swedish delegation to a lunch.
Dialogue on innovation
After lunch, the Royal Couple, the Prime Minister of India and the Minister Ibrahim Baylan participated in a dialogue on innovation.
The dialogue is based on the innovation partnership that Sweden and India signed when India's Prime Minister visited Stockholm in the spring of 2018. The purpose of the dialogue is to deepen cooperation between Sweden and India and contribute to sustainable growth and new jobs.
In a speech, the King highlighted the benefits of closer collaboration:
"Right now, both Sweden and India are investing in research and innovation ecosystems. It is gratifying to see such a strong focus on the future. We need to make the most of the opportunities ahead. There is much to be gained from doing this together, and in India we see not only a friend but also a strong innovation partner. "
Old town of Delhi
In the afternoon, the King and Queen visited Jama Masijd, one of India's largest mosques and the Red Fort in the Old Delhi district. Both buildings were erected by the mogul emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century.
The courtyard outside the Jama Masijd mosque is large enough to accommodate up to 25,000 worshipers.
The Red Fort was Emperor Shah Jahan's palace and got its name from the massive red sandstone wall that surrounds the fort. When India became independent in 1947, Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru raised the Indian national flag on the fort. This ceremony is repeated every year on August 15 on India's Independence Day. Since 2007, the Red Fort has been part of UNESCO's World Heritage List.
In connection with the Red Fort, the King and Queen visited an exhibition on Indian art from the 16th century until India's independence. The exhibition opened in early 2019 and is the first major art exhibition to be displayed on the historic site.
State Banquet
On the first evening of the state visit, President Ram Nath Kovind and Mrs. Savita Kovind hosted a state banquet in the President's official residence Rashtrapi Bhavan.
Before dinner, the Royal couple, the President and the Swedish delegation met for a meeting on Sweden and India's bilateral relations.

Swedish Royals seek climate awareness, urge end of sexual violence in India
India and Sweden signed three agreements including one that will facilitate closer scientific research in polar science.
India and Sweden should spread the awareness of climate change to the grassroots level to help create a front to meet the global challenge, said King Carl XVI Gustaf on Tuesday in an exclusive interview with The Hindu. The Swedish king urged Indian farmers to convert agricultural waste into a profitable business and Queen Silvia demanded a campaign to end sexual violence in India.
“It is important that we should keep discussing this question and it should remain on the table as by discussing it we can increase awareness from below and then it can push all the way up,” said King Carl XVI Gustaf.
The royal couple who are on their third visit to India said that India has progressively become aware of the threat of climate change and the challenges that it poses to the health and economy of the people. The royals will travel to Mumbai on Wednesday and will proceed to Rishikesh and Haridwar in Uttarakhand where they will inaugurate a sewage treatment plant. Apart from official engagements they also attended on Tuesday a meeting on air pollution and an interaction on trafficking and gender violence.
“You have to inform the population and you have to deal with this question and create a campaign for it. It's present in many countries and for many years we dealt with this in Sweden,” said Queen Silvia.

I suspect that there has been a misunderstanding by the tweeter who posted about the handing out of orders. The Order of the Seraphim is only handed out to Heads of State and some royals and I'd find it very unusual to hand out two orders at once. The Order of the Polar Star is the normal order to hand out on State visits and by the looks of it five people received it at the same time here.

The royal court about the second day at its website

High-level meeting India Sweden Business Summit
The second day of the state visit began with the high-level meeting "India Sweden Business Summit" organized by Business Sweden and the Indian Industry Confederation. The Royal Couple was welcomed by Fredrik Persson, Chairman of the Swedish Business Delegation and Ylva Berg, President and CEO of Business Sweden, who then introduced the Royal Couple to the Business Delegation.
The royal couple visited an exhibition where Swedish companies and solutions were presented to high-level Indian stakeholders.
The King was then received by Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman and the "India Sweden Business Summit" was initiated, a bilateral discussion with over 200 participants.
Together with Indian leaders, experts and international entrepreneurs, India's growth position in the new global economic landscape was discussed and how to realize India's many opportunities while at the same time trying to avoid the obstacles that foreign companies and investors often face.
Round table discussion on elderly care and dementia
The Queen visited the All India Institute for Medical Science (AIIMS) which is one of India's leading public medical facilities. AIIMS is a referral hospital and knowledge center for Indian health care that offers free care.
The Queen participated in a roundtable discussion about Sweden India Health Year and models in the elderly and dementia. The discussions conclude a year-long program for incoming and outgoing visits, in which Sweden's Minister of Health Lena Hallengren participated in February 2019.
In connection with the meeting, the Queen gave a speech in which she said:
”Sweden and India differ in many ways. But both our countries face the challenges of an aging population. Every three seconds, someone in the world develops dementia. Today, around 50 million people worldwide are living with dementia. This number is expected to reach more than 130 million by 2050. This makes dementia one of the biggest, most complex and challenging health issues facing humanity today.”
Demonstration of new technology for better air
The King visited the India Habitat Center together with the Minister for Business, Industry and Innovation Ibrahim Baylan to obtain information on air pollution management.
Air pollution is a challenge in many urban centers, including in India. In recent years, several ambitious initiatives have been implemented in India to reduce air pollution levels.
The king received a demonstration of equipment that measures air pollution, developed by IIT Kanpur, Airtel and Ericsson. The king also had to see innovative solutions for turning agricultural waste into products, technologies developed by IKEA and Bioendev. Tetra Pak showed its circular economy and recycling initiatives.
Discussion on trafficking in India
During a visit to the UN office in New Delhi, the Queen took part in a discussion on trafficking from an Indian perspective, both cross-border trade in and out of India as well as trade within the country. The Queen was received by Ruchira Gupta, president and founder of the Apne Aap organization.
During the meeting, the Queen gave a speech where she said:
“There are many reasons why people get drawn into prostitution. But the fact remains: The primary factor that drives trafficking and prostitution is that there is a demand for the purchase of sexual services. And where there is demand, sadly, there will also be supply. Including children.
This is why I founded the World Childhood Foundation twenty years ago: to put child sexual abuse and exploitation on the global agenda.”
Apne Aap is an Indian charity that opposes and stops sex trafficking. The organization works to empower girls and women by organizing them into self-governing groups, where they can work together to strengthen their legal, social, economic and political rights.
During the meeting, the UN Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention (UNODC) presented what the current situation regarding sex trafficking in India looks like and the underlying causes. The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) gave a presentation on children in human trafficking.
Lunch with Sweden Alumni Network India
The royal couple had a lunch with Sweden Alumni Network India at the Oberoi Hotel with the Swedish Institute as host. The Swedish Institute has actively supported the formation of a network for former students and researchers at Swedish universities.

The royal court at its website about the third day of the visit
The third day of the state visit began with a visit to the city of Mumbai. On arrival, the King and Queen were received by Nand Kumar, representative of the Maharashtra government and Anna Lekvall, Sweden's Consul General in Mumbai.
Bollywood - the world's largest film industry
Mumbai is the capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra and India's financial and commercial center. Here are many large Indian companies that together generate about 6 percent of India's total GDP.
Mumbai is also the heart of the Indian film industry - Bollywood - which is the world's largest film industry and produces upwards of a thousand films every year. Bollywood's history goes back to 1899, about ten years before Hollywood began producing films.
Beach cleaning on Versova Beach
At Versova Beach, the royal couple was welcomed by the lawyer and environmental activist Afroz Shah, who told us about the beach cleaning project in Versova.
The UN environmental program has called Versova Beach Clean Up, the world's largest beach cleaning project. The project was started by Mumbai-based lawyer and activist Afroz Shah in 2015 and awarded the Champions of the Earth Award by the UN 2016. The project is run entirely by volunteers who gather every weekend to clean up the beach.
Before the cleanup began, Versova Beach was considered one of Mumbai's most degraded beaches. Up to last year, 20 million kilograms of waste have been collected and now reports of turtles returning to the beach. Sweden has participated in the project through education for schools in the area about the "Keep Sweden Tidy" campaign.
Lunch at Maharashtra's Governor
On arrival at the residence of Maharashtra's governor, the royal couple was welcomed by Governor Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari and Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, who hosted the lunch.
The governor of Maharashtra is appointed by the central government and Bhagat Singh Koshyari took office in September this year. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was elected in 2014 and is one of India's young leading politicians.
Maharashtra is India's leading industrial state and more than a hundred Swedish companies operate here. About 35,000 people are employed by Swedish companies, making Maharashtra the second largest state when it comes to jobs created by Swedish companies. 38 of the Swedish companies have their Indian headquarters in Mumbai.
Visit at Door Step School
The royal couple received a traditional welcome, called "Arti Tika Garland", in the form of a dot in the forehead and a flower wreath. Then a presentation of the school and a guided tour were given through the classrooms where the King and Queen were given the opportunity to meet some of the students. The royal couple also visited schoolchildren in the School on Wheels bus, the mobile classroom for street children created by Door Step School.
Door Step School is a non-profit organization founded in 1988 and offers education to the most vulnerable and often forgotten children from families in slums. The organization's work focuses on the problems that result from unemployment, resource wasting and stagnation in the public school. Over 50,000 children have participated in the initiative since its inception and the organization has activities in both Mumbai and Pune.
Tekla
In the afternoon, the King and Queen visited a workshop and dialogue on Tekla, a project created by the Swedish Institute and the Royal Institute of Technology. The aim of the project is to attract more young girls to science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This is done through "Teklafestivaler" where girls are given the opportunity to participate in coding and technology workshops.
The workshop in Mumbai is organized in collaboration with the Indian initiative Atal innovation mission. Previously, Tekla festivals have been held in Stockholm, Washington DC, New York and Brasilia.
