King Carl XVI Gustaf's 70th Birthday Celebrations: April 25-30, 2016

I think they stay on the yacht. I know that's what the British royals did on Britannia.

That was the case at Victoria's wedding. The Danish and Norwegian guest stayed at their ships, which was convenient for everyone since so may prominent guests were in town and even the Royal Palace couldn't house everyone.

No Charlene ? How surprising ...
In fact i'm more surprised by the non attendance of the Greek RF...

The king liked a bust of himself made by 3-d printer which he got as a gift from ceo Carl Schillander from Thaiber.

The British send no one, and neither does Luxembourg. Even Japan sent a representative but the Europeans couldn't make the effort?

There is the closing of the Octave on Sunday morning in Luxembourg. And Guillaume and Stéphanie are leaving to their Trade Trip to China.

Still, they could have sent someone to the Te Deum service on Saturday morning. It would have been a nice gesture. I'm not familiar with the Closing of the Octave celebration though.

I agree, they could have sent the younger son and his wife.

Someone cpould have attended the moring 'E'Vents and the Townhall reception and skip the Banquiet like the spanish Royals.
Or the could have send Guillaume and Sibylla. They are usually not present at the Octave Events.

The Norwegian court has updated their calender. Only Princess Martha Louise and Ari Behn will be attending the celebrations. Presumably the king and queen pulled out because of the tragedy on the west coast of Norway

It is nice to see that members of the Westling, O'Neill and Hellqvist families were also invited. In other countries, it looks like the families of commoners who have married into the royal family are completely shut out of public royal events.

At this sort of events (birthdays, baptisms, weddings) we often see "the other family" as well. Think about the Zorreguieta and the d'Udekem d'Acoz families.

Why do you think that the king want to see a crowd of little-known or totally unknown people attending his birthday celebrations?
It's not a state occasion. It's his personal birthday. And we don't know what kind of invitations and for whom he have sent.

The grandmother of Princess Marie-Astrid, Prince Henri, Prince Jean, Princess Margaretha and Prince Guillaume was a Swedish Princess (Queen Astrid of the Belgians). They have never known their grandmother as she died in 1935. So we may assume there is no (special) relationship between the Luxembourgian and Swedish royals.

Why did this man bother to get married? I can't say I'm surprised at this though, it's been years since his wife went to a foreign royal event. Not sure why she didn't just marry an ordinary guy if she dislikes these things.

Last Sunday the Prince and Princess went to the final of the Monte-Carlo Tennis Tournament and honoured winner Rafael Nadal. They regularly do things together. Picture. So it is not that they are always "alone".

I didn't see King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia's names down for the banquet just the Te Deum?

No members of the British RF present is not a big surprise but a little disappointing all the same.

It looks like King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia are not in the guest list after all.

King Juan Carlos and queen Sofia are attending at Te Deum tomorrow morning and probably also to the lunch hosted by the City of Stockholm tomorrow afternoon, there isn't a guest list about that.

Demper på feiring av kong Carl Gustaf | ABC Nyheter
A week-long celebration of King Carl Gustaf is topped with a banquet Saturday night. Originally it was intended that the whole Norwegian royal family were to arrive Saturday morning, but now it's just Princess Martha Louise and Ari Behn who are representing Norway. The couple will stay with the Swedish Crown Princess Couple at Haga Palace.

Still, they could have sent someone to the Te Deum service on Saturday morning. It would have been a nice gesture. I'm not familiar with the Closing of the Octave celebration though.

Closing of the Octave is the second most important event in Luxembourg (the first being National Day) and happens on the 5th Sunday after Easter. There’s a Mass in the morning and then a Mass, procession, and balcony appearance in the afternoon. Unfortunately, Octave is on May 1st this year and somewhat conflicts with King CG’s birthday celebrations.

With GD Maria Teresa’s fear of flying and the HGD couple going to China, GD Henri would have been the only likely candidate to go. I also wish he could have gone to Friday or early Saturday events.

I’m not sure anyone else would have been sent. Although Prince Felix attended CP Victoria’s wedding, I can't think of any younger or extended grand ducal family member representing Luxembourg at these types of big gatherings aboard.

Last Sunday the Prince and Princess went to the final of the Monte-Carlo Tennis Tournament and honoured winner Rafael Nadal. They regularly do things together. Picture. So it is not that they are always "alone".

I'm talking about attendance at European royal events. He has a wife but she barely shows at these kind of things and is missing again.

I don't recall seeing the Zorreguieta's at any public celebration of Queen Beatrix's birthdays and I don't think CP Mary's family ever attended any of Queen Margrethe's birthday galas.

They all look very nice, especially Madeleine, who is absolutely gorgeous in that picture.

I disagree. His birthday celebration is a semi-state occasion at the very least. He didn’t have to celebrate with foreign royals, Presidents from Finland and Iceland, members of the Riksdag and all at banquets, receptions, a concert, a parade, etc.

For royalty, I think invitations are sent from court to court (not to the specific invitee) and then that court/royal house decides who to send.

On the other Hand the closing of the Octave is every year which the 70th birthday of the swedish King is nit. And if is sio important then they should have not scheduled the economic mission of Guillaume and Stephanoe so that they will miss it the second year in a row. (last yerar they where at another official Event ab road).
