My surprise was that they were NOT there. The Greek royals usually attend the big royal events.

I am pretty sure that, if it were not for the helicopter crash, the King and Queen of Norway would be present as they normally attend events of fellow Scandinavian monarchies.

The biggest surprise to me was the absence of the King and Queen of the Netherlands. The King of Spain is probably refraining from leaving the country before fresh elections are called, which is scheduled to happen next Tuesday, if I am not mistaken.

Thanks again for pointing out (like Ingrid) something I directly mentioned in my post The Norweigans were indeed on the guest list and confirmed to attend (both the crown prince couple and the king/queen). They pulled out Friday after the crash.

Thanks, I didn't see them mentioned nor have I noticed any pics of them

There were glimpses of them at the courtyard event behind Norway's Princess ML and Denmark's CP couple.

There are definitely some tiaras within the Bu RF. Margarita herself wore a huge one at her wedding, once owned by Simeons mother.

Thanks I even saw her in the group pic and couldn't think of who it was. Its been a while since I have seen the couple. Her tiara is quite similar to the fringe tiara Victoria wears often.

The massive tiara hasn't been since 1957. Some speculate it was broken down or sold.

But there are a few tiaras. Her daughter in laws wear tiaras at events

Thank you for sharing those LadyFinn. Can you give a translation (or brief overview in English) of Carl Gustaf's speech? I get the impression that he was thanking the people of Stockholm for their performances, but it would be interesting to hear more details.

Not a lot of important attendance .
Isn't the former King and Queen of Spain and the former Queen of Netherlands "important guests" ?
They ruled their countries for many years and are close private friends of Carl Gustaf and Silvia so for a birthday party they are very important guests.

I heard there were school holiday in NL (?) so W-A, Maxima and the girls may be abroad on holiday ?

As there is a government crisis in Spain it wouldn't look good if the King left the country for a birthday party in Sweden when he recently cancelled a state visit to UK.

The Greek RF was celebrating the ortodox easter and couldn't attend. If it had been next week, QA-M would probably have attended with her sisters.

Wouldn't be surprised if the British Royal Family wasn't even invited. Why on earth invite people who always says no ?

Btw i thought it was nice to see the President of the Republic of Finland escort the Queen of Sweden to the banquet yesterday.

I am pretty sure an invitation was sent. to the British royal family. It is really disappointing that Charles and Camilla didn't attend; they are almost the same age as Carl Gustaf and seem to get along well with the Swedish royal family, whom they visited on the occasion of Queen Elizabeth's diamond jubilee.

The Queen rarely sends her heirs to these events. She usually send Edward and Sophie. My guess they were too busy to attend. I think Charles and Camilla or the Cambridge's should be attending these events.

Charles actually attended Willem-Alexander's, Philippe's and Felipe's weddings, and he was also present at the funeral of Prince Claus. I also read once that he was supposed to attend Victoria's wedding, but couldn't make it.

The wedding of the heir to the throne is a state occasion. A birthday party, even that of the king, is not. And even state events like the wedding of Albert and Charlene, and Guillaume and Stephanie, Edward was sent instead. If anyone would have gone, it would have been the Wessexes for a private dinner.

If everyone is ending their heirs, then the British should be doing the same.

The king started his speech with "Dear people of Stockholm, dear friends!" He thanked all that had came there and made the day. Not only for him but to all his guests who had come from abroad. The king said that "it is great to be able to show Stockholm at its best. All of you, who have come here, it is you who make it, you make Stockholm. Congratulations. And above all, just today, this fantastic choir below me. You are very skilled. But I have observed something – that there are almost only women there in your choir, and I begin to understand why". (The swedish royal experts were wondering what the king meant with this). The king thanked warmly for the homage and wished everyone a nice continuing Walpurgis night.

Several monsrchies sent the predecessor of the current monarch, that would've been a bit difficult for the Brits
I don't think there were many heirs at this party, apart from the Scandinavian fanilies, but they are personally close, so you can't compare that imo

Photos from the Facebook and Instagram of TV4's political reporter Anders Pihlblad, who has at the courtyard rather close to the king, like all the press.

They were lovely bday celebrations and as a royal watcher I was very grateful that we got tons of pictures and broadcasts from the celebrations.
