King Carl Gustaf met today Sara Danius, the permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy. Danius presented the program of the formal gathering of the Swedish Academy and the laureate of the Royal Prize to the king. The formal gathering is annually on 20th December at 17.00.

King Carl Gustaf and queen Silvia attended a seminar at Fryshuset (it was a present to the king on his 70th birthday), and the king delivered scholarship from the Anders Carlberg Memorial Fund. The honorary prizes were delivered to artist Laleh Pourkarim and police Mohamed Abubaker.

Although the royal calendar is not updated for 2017 yet, Margareta Thorgren confirmed to Expressen that king Carl Gustaf will attend at Folk och Försvar's Annual National Conference (Rikskonferensen) on it's second day, 9th January. Sweden's total defense is on the day's agenda. The conference is the foremost meeting-place for the Swedish security and defence policy community. The conference is held each year in January in Sweden. Folk och Försvar (Society and Defence) is a politically and religiously independent association of democratic nationwide organisations in Sweden.

King Carl Gustaf attended today at Folk och Försvar (Society and Defence) National Conference in Sälen.
The king commented the death of Ulf Dinkelspiel, a close friend to him and the whole Royal Family:
- I got the news just as well, a few minutes ago. It's very sad. He has done many good services, and the families are good friends, so we've known him for many years, he says to Expressen.
The king continued:
- But now we are here for this conference, which is also important for Sweden. I think it is good that we can speak openly and take this debate further. Of course it is important for me and for the whole Sweden. I have been here for some times previously and it is exciting to be back.

- The king and queen met with the Board of Gripsholm Association and talked with them. Then they have come here to the Hall to listen to a great piano concerto. The king and queen are very involved in what is happening on the royal palaces, and are both very interested in music, says Timmy Cox, First Supervisor at Gripsholm Castle.
The reason for the piano concerto was that Gripsholm Castle got a new grand piano, called a "Steinway piano".
- For six or seven years ago the Gripsholm Association donated a grand piano to the castle for the simple reason that we have a very rich music program here. The grand piano was great, but not world class, says Timmy Cox."
Now The Gripsholm Association, which is an organization whose task is to promote the business at Gripsholm Castle, has got money, which made it possible to purchase a Steinway piano.
- It is a royal palace and we have world-class artists here. Then we thought it was appropriate to have a grand piano that matches the castle and our artists, says Timmy Cox.
What does it mean that the royal couple is here on an evening like this?
- It's great that king and queen visit the royal palaces. It means a lot to us that they are here for a night like this.

On Thursday the King received four new foreign ambassadors at formal audiences at the Royal Palace: Ambassadors Valentin Delchev Poriazov from Bulgaria, Abdulaziz bin Hamoud Al-Zaid from Saudi Arabia, Ali Awale Kullane from Somalia and Matti Anttonen from Finland.

On Thursday evening king Carl Gustaf and queen Silvia went to Villa Bonnier to a dinner hosted by Urban Ahlin, the Speaker of the Parliament.
Expressen's reporter Elias Giertz met the king and queen outside Villa Bonnier. Giertz asked queen Silvia: What really happened and how the queen is feeling today?
- Thank you, how kind of you to ask. That's really good. Sometimes you have a little slump which then goes over. Now I feel very good.
Silvia also took the opportunity to address a greeting to the staff who were by her side during the two days at Danderyd Hospital:
- It was nice! It was very great staff at Danderyd who really took care. I want to thank them again.

- We've been here a number of times before and have been invited by the Speaker. It's very nice to come back here. It is not the first time and it's very nice. We talk about everything that we have the opportunity for which there is interest in the different parties. There is nothing specific we shall discuss, but it is informal.
Speaker Urban Ahlin told of the plan for the dinner when he arrived a few moments before the royal couple.
- There is a dinner for parliamentary administration staff with me as Speaker of the Parliament, where we meet the court's staff together with the king and queen. We're talking about events we attended together, such as the Opening of the Parliament, National Day celebrations and incoming visits of the Speakers of the Parliament. How we will do this year. It's many activities we do together and it's simply the ones we should take up. We have constantly changed the Opening of the Parliament in different ways and National Day celebrations as well. We do new things every year so we have ideas even for tonight's discussion.

King Carl Gustaf had today an audience with the Estonian Swedes' cultural administration. The king was awarded with a medal as Estonian Swedes' culture bearer for "lasting and enduring support to Swedish culture in Estonia".

Later today the king attended meeting of HM The King's Council for Land and Building Issues. During the meeting the National Property Board (SFV) gave a progress report on the ongoing facade restoration of the Royal Palace.

The king said to Borås Tidning that the races were good, very good. It was fun, the swedish skiers have been stable during the seasons and it looks good for the future, the king thinks. The king was asked about the World Championships in Lahti, Finland, in February. The king said that let's hope it goes as well as possible. It looks good now, so the king thinks the Swedes go well at the World Championships too.

King Carl Gustaf and queen Silvia gave an audience to Norway's ambassador Kai Eide. The queen attends always at the farewell audiences of the ambassadors from the Nordic countries.
The king gave audiences to Kosovo's ambassador Ilir Dugolli, Spain's ambassador F. Javier Jiménez-Ugarte Hernández, Vietnam's ambassador Tran Van Hinh and Ecuador's ambassador Mario Guerrero Murgueytio.

The new campus is partly the result of a collection made in conjunction with the King's 70th birthday. The money collected was donated to the Royal College of Music - and thanks to the King is one of the new concert halls named Kungasalen (The King's Hall).
- As the representative of Sweden, I feel a special pride in all blue and yellow successes in music. Yes, we are talking of course even about "the Swedish music miracle," the king said in a speech during the evening.
On Thursday, it was 70 years of the day prince Gustaf Adolf was killed in a plane crash. The king was barely a year old when he lost his father.
- The King is of course aware that it was 70 years ago that the king's father died. The king thinks of course his father especially on a day like this, says Margareta Thorgren, the director of the press department.

Queen Silvia presented today the scholarship from the Micael Bindefeld Foundation in Memory of the Holocaust at the Royal Dramatic Theatre.
Micael Bindefeld, well-known and respected organizer of professional events, founded in 2014 his Foundation in order to support those who have a desire to communicate, provide information on, photo insert, or otherwise disseminate knowledge to a wide Swedish audience with stories of the Holocaust. Bindefeld donated five million SEK to the foundation. Many of Bindefeld’s relatives were executed at Holocaust. Daniel delivered the first scholarships in 2015 and Victoria delivered the scholarship last year.

The scholarship was delivered to Jacob Mühlrad and his unique choral works of his grandfather Michael Bliman's time in the concentration camps Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen.
- It's amazing for me to receive this generous scholarship and through my symphonic choral composition be able to tell my grandfather's gripping story. I see it as an honor to pay tribute to my grandfather and also help to highlight the importance that the history of the Holocaust is passed further, says Jacob Mühlrad.
With the support of Micael Bindefeld Foundation in memory of the Holocaust Jacob Mühlrad is able to complete his project. The piece will be performed by the Radio Choir in Berwaldhallen with the world premiere on October 14, 2017.
Despite his 25 years Jacob Mühlrad is considered to be one of Sweden's most talented composers and one of the most promising in the world. He is the youngest composer who has ever written works for large venues such as the Royal Opera and Berwaldhallen. In 2016, his work Pan had its world premiere at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York.

- Every person's life is a story. Most fall into oblivion. But there are stories we will not forget, even if it hurts to remember. I am convinced that this scholarship is an important contribution.
This year's winner is composer Jacob Mühlrad, whose grandfather liberated from a concentration camp and then moved to Sweden. The scholarship has been given Jacob for his musical pieces of his grandfather. The Queen continued:
- Music is a language that speaks directly to our hearts. Jacob has made a great and important achievement. I hope that many people will take part of it.
