King Carl Gustaf and queen Silvia attended on Tuesday evening at a charity event with the Baltic Salmon Foundation. The king is the patron of Stiftelsen för Östersjölaxen (Baltic Salmon Foundation). The Foundation promotes sustainable management of wild salmon and sea-trout stocks in the Baltic Sea and its rivers.

The king and queen with Sven Thorgren, Swedish snowboarder, son of Margareta Thorgren, the director of the press department. Thorgren couldn't participate in the Olympics due to an injury.

Queen Silvia attended on Thursday at a seminar "Sverige - ett demensvänligt samhälle?" (Sweden - a dementia friendly society?). The seminar was held at the Riksdag.
At the seminar was discussed about the WHO's decision on a global action plan for dementia and The National Board of Health and Welfare's proposal for a Swedish dementia strategy, which was presented in June 2017.

Due to the death of opera singer Kjerstin Dellert, HM the King made the following statement.
Kjerstin Dellert has left us. She was not only one of Sweden's premier opera singers, but also a great entertainer with a warm heart.
Kjerstin Dellert also gave Confidencen, the Ulriksdal Palace Theatre a new life and lead the theatre successfully for many years.
A great cultural personality has gone out of time. I and my family recall her with gratitude and warmth.

King Carl Gustaf and queen Silvia met Dagny Carlsson, "Sweden's oldest blogger". 105-year-old Dagny Carlsson runs a popular blog with a large readership.
Dagny Carlsson was received by the royal couple in Princess Sibylla's apartment at the Royal Palace. At the age of 99, Dagny Carlsson went to a computer course and she has since run a blog. Dagny Carlsson has also been portrayed in a SVT documentary, and has been summer and winter host in Sveriges Radio.

- We were informed that Dagny Carlsson would like to meet the royal couple. The royal couple thought it was very nice to have the opportunity to receive her at the Palace, says Johan Tegel, information officer at the court.
On Tuesday Dagny Carlsson was invited to Queen Sibylla's apartment at the Royal Palace.
What did they talk about at the meeting?
- Dagny Carlsson told among other things about her blogging with what she has spent over the last five, six years and about the attention it has led to.
It's not that the royal couple should start blogging and needed some tips from Dagny Carlsson?
- The court communicates via several social media, including Instagram and Facebook. But blogging is not up-to-date, says Johan Tegel.

"Today it was a big and eventful day for I was invited to their Majesty King and Queen at the Royal Palace. There was a full storm when passing through Borggården and it was nice to get into the good warmth. We were escorted by uniformed people whose titles I did not know and entered the hall where the king's mother, Princess Sibylla, once received the guests. The king entered the hall together with Queen Silvia and we had an animated chat. With the king I spoke about history and about his predecessors. With the Queen, it became a little bit more small talk about how I remembered her arrival in Sweden as well as her children and grandchildren. I told her about my respect and that I and the whole Swedish people felt she was beautiful, wise and talented and cut out for the queen role. As a child, one had the idea that royals bare crowns and clothes with glitter and dressed fur-fitted clothes, but it's costume and dress as usual. The queen gave me a book of pictures and text about the family. It was dedicated to me and I will read and browse it with pleasure. I was followed by the TV team so the visit will be shown in SVT. When I know nothing about it. We have a grand Palace and it contains so many rooms that I suspect the royal family has not even see them all. A little more intimate it will be during the summers when they can stay at Solliden on Öland. I think our king makes great efforts for Sweden during his visits abroad. I do not think he cares that he does not have much power but likes to be Sweden's face out."

Due to the passing of artist Barbro Svensson, H.M. The King made the following statement.

Barbro "Lill-Babs" Svensson has left us today. A popular artist who many will miss and who over the years became a close friend of our family.
We will remember her great warmth and cordiality.

Svensk Damtidning tells that the king and queen are still in Storlien, and got the news of Barbro "Lill-Babs" Svensson's death there. "Lill-Babs" was one of princess Birgitta's closest friends.

King Carl Gustaf called on Friday to the Swedish Academy's permanent secretary Sara Danius and wanted to meet her to discuss about the crisis.
Sara Danius met on Sunday evening King Carl Gustaf at Drottningholm Palace.
- They discussed different solutions for a positive development of the Academy, the court writes in a statement.

Margareta Thorgren said on Friday to TT News Agency, that the king asked for a meeting, because he is the patron of the Swedish Academy. When there are major events at the Academy, the king as the patron wants to be informed about them.

King Carl Gustaf commented the situation in the Swedish Academy, when he arrived to ICC Sweden annual meeting on Monday morning:
- I am the patron of the Academy as kings have been for many generations. It is a very important institution and I am therefore informed. It's a very sad development, but I hope we can solve it in some way. All problems are in order to resolve and I think we will do sooner or later. Just let it take some time, it will take place, said the king to the reporters at the Grand Hôtel.

Expressen of the king's meeting on Sunday with Sara Danius, the permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy:

It was late afternoon on Sunday when Sara Danius walked up the stone staircase to Drottningholm Palace.
King Carl Gustaf, the Swedish Adacemy's patron, received her in a rather anonymous visitor's room. They were in the room for almost an hour and a half without anyone else present. Not even the king's aide-de-camp, who is constantly standing next to him on official missions.
Despite the late hour, no food or snacks were served. It was a clean work meeting and the king wanted to be quickly and efficiently informed of what is happening in the Academy after three members announced that they had resigned from the Academy.
The Academy, which nominates the Nobel Prize winner in literature, is strongly associated with the king and he personally did not want Sweden's pride abroad sunk down by an infected personality battle.
At the same time, he was careful that this is a matter for the Academy itself to solve - and promised time to Sara Danius.
The voices raised after the meeting, that the king himself should enter and act in his role as patron, he does not listen to. Not yet.
The king is currently satisfied with being informed. He expects Sara Danius to do that. On Friday he heard about all the jargon via the media and the court - and not directly from the Academy. He responded.
- There may be more meetings with Sara Danius, but there is nothing that has been decided right now, said Margareta Thorgren, director of the press department.
Could it be the King's responsibility to act for the Academy's best?
- This is a unique situation and therefore the court doesn't go in it or speculate about it.

The king had today also a meeting regarding the crisis at the Swedish Academy. The king met member Anders Olsson, who currently serves as the director of the Academy.
- The court announces that Academy member Anders Olsson, chair number four of the Swedish Academy, has had a meeting with the king at the Royal Palace. Anders Olsson acts as Director of the Academy during this period.
This means that Anders Olsson has been called for an information meeting with the King in his role as Director of the Academy. They have an ambulatory directorate and at the moment Anders Olsson has it, said Margareta Thorgren.
Could it be up to date to meet more people?
- It may be. But we do not comment on details about it, said Thorgren.

The contradictions that have arisen within the Swedish Academy are deeply unfortunate and risk seriously to damage the Academy's important activities. It is crucial that all involved now realize their responsibility for the institution and contribute to resolving conflicts. For members of the Swedish Academy, responsibility for the institution must always come at first hand.
It is my understanding that the Monarch disposes according to the statutes of the Swedish Academy, which my predecessor, Gustav III, established. I will, in the light of developments, consider the need for additions to the statutes, in particular as regards the right of secession.

To my knowledge the last time a Swedish king got involved in the day to day running of the Swedish Academy was Oscar II so this is something extraordinary. I wonder how his initiative will be received given that one of the members in an article yesterday very politely told him to stay out of it all.
 
Sara Danius, the permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy, resigned this evening from her job, and she leaves also her chair nr 7 at the Academy. Also Katarina Frostenson leaves her chair and the Academy.

The king is informed of the latest developments within the Swedish Academy.
This is what Margareta Thorgren said on Thursday night:
- He just learned that Sara Danius has resigned, but we have had another event here at the Palace, so at the moment we have no new comment to give, said Margareta Thorgren.
- The king made a clear statement on Wednesday that the Academy's statutes could be clarified and changed, said Thorgren.
The Swedish Academy seems to collapse. There is much depending on the king right now?
- Yes, but we do not have any further information right now, says Margaretha Thorgren.

Oh this is hot stuff, and a statement that the King shouldn't be very happy about. If you read it quickly, or just the headlines it appears that the King was onboard the idea of Danius leaving as permanent secretary, alas not the case. And juding from the huge support and sympathy for Danius in social media and other articles today (and critique towards some of the remaining Academy members) that wouldn't be a good thing to be associated with.

This crisis is far from over! :whistling:
