King Carl Gustaf and queen Silvia attend on Tuesday 17th September at the inauguration of Folke Bernadotte Bridge on Royal Djurgården.

The Folke Bernadotte Bridge – a bridge across Djurgårdsbrunn Bay, linking Museiparken with Rosendal – will open in September 2019.
Construction of the bridge began autumn 2018, and the foundation was delivered in June 2019. On Tuesday 4 June, the side sections were hoisted into place using a crane on a barge in Djurgårdsbrunn Bay. The central section was installed the following day, completing the construction of the bridge.
The Folke Bernadotte Bridge
The Royal Djurgården Administration will now be building a bridge across the bay, linking the various parts of Royal Djurgården, on the very spot where King Karl XIV Johan built his floating bridge.
The bridge will be eight metres long, bridging the canal between Museiparken and Rosendal with a single, slender steel span.
The bridge will be named in memory of Count Folke Bernadotte. He was appointed as the UN's first mediator following the Second World War. Folke Bernadotte lived at Dragongården, next to Museiparken (now the Chinese Embassy).
Linking southern and northern Djurgården
With its palace, palace park and famous gardens, Rosendal is sometimes overlooked as visitors make their way along Djurgårdsvägen. However, the new bridge will open up new routes for pedestrians and cyclists.

On Tuesday, September 17, Folke Bernadotte's bridge, a pedestrian bridge across Djurgårdsbrunn Bay will be opened, which will link the Museum Park with Rosendal.
Royal inauguration at. 11:00
Everyone is welcome to the inauguration, which starts at. 11.00 in the presence of the Royal Couple. The ceremony takes place at the northern abutment near Djurgårdsbrunn Bay, below the Technical Museum.
The king holds the inauguration speech, after the welcome words from the Marshal of the Realm Fredrik Wersäll. At the inauguration, court trumpeter Olle Hermansen and Brass Quintet from Life Guards' Dragoon Music Corps also participate under the direction of Carl Löfvenius Hellman.
Views of Rosendal Palace from 14:00
The first Bernadotte Karl XIV Johan had constructed a bridge in the same place in 1820. Via it, the king got a more enjoyable ride from Rosendal Palace to the military parades on the other side of the Djurgården Canal.
In honour of the day there is a free entrance to Karl XIV Johan's pleasure palace. The palace stands largely untouched since Karl Johan's time, and is one of the country's foremost examples of Swedish empirical style.
The showings are given every half hour between 14.00 and 16.30 (the last starts at 16.30).

The King and Queen at the inauguration of Folke Bernadotte's bridge
On Tuesday, September 17, the King inaugurated the new Folke Bernadotte Bridge that crosses Djurgårdsbrunnsviken in Stockholm. The bridge now links the Museum Park and Rosendal.
The inauguration of the new bridge began with the King and Queen laying flowers on a bust of Folke Bernadotte, which is at the bridge's northern fort.
The King then gave a speech in which he said:
“The bridge reminds us of one of the humanitarian heroes of the 20th century: Folke Bernadotte, whose death date is just today, September 17. After his efforts during the Second World War, he was named UN's first international mediator. A true bridge builder and a prominent person in our Swedish history.
In this way, this is not just a bridge between the north and the south, but equally a link between our history and our future. That's what I call a building project in time. "
After the speech, the King opened the bridge by cutting a band wreath and walking with the Queen across the bridge.

Me and my autofocusing mobile camera had a run in with King Carl Gustav and Queen Silvia of Sweden before the concert celebrating the 75th jubilee of Malmö Opera. The Opera was inaugurated by then Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf & Crown Princess Louise on the 23rd of September 1944.

Being able to finish the opera in the middle of the war had great symbolic value for the Swedes and the inauguration was, in addition to the Crown Prince & Crown Princess, attended by Prime minister Hansson, other members of the government and Princes Eugen and Wilhelm.

Upon arrival at Herrgården in Lessebo, the King and Queen were welcomed by representatives from Lessebo Municipality and Lessebo Paper AB. Then, an anniversary ceremony was held to celebrate the paper's 300 years in Lessebo.
During the ceremony, the King gave a speech in which he said:
“Sweden is a country of forests, and the industries that work with Swedish forest raw materials have a special place in our history. And in my heart!
The sawmills, pulp and paper mills have characterized the places where they existed, as here in Lessebo. They have also had a great impact on our country as a whole. "
The royal couple then got a tour of Lessebo Paper's modern facility and the opportunity to talk to those who work there.
The quality paper manufactured at the plant has made Lessebo an internationally renowned brand.
In the Paper Mill, the Queen tried to make her own paper.
After a lunch in the Handpappers Mill basement, together with representatives of Lessebo municipality and Lessebo Paper AB, the King and Queen visited the Hackebackeskolan.
At Hackebackeskolan are students grades F-6. The school is actively working to increase interest in science, mathematics and technology.
During the visit, the students showed their experiments and knowledge to the King and Queen, who also had the opportunity to talk with the school's students and staff.

On Monday, October 7, the King presented the Marcus Wallenberg Prize to Professor Gerhard Schickhofer. He is awarded for his research and development of cross-glued solid wood, CLT, which is ecologically sustainable and can be used to build multi-storey houses.
Professor Gerhard Schickhofer at the Institute of Carpentry and Wood Technology at the Technical University of Graz, Austria, has laid the scientific and technological foundation for the development of cross-glued solid wood, CLT. The material is stable, can be used in multi-storey houses and, like timber, is an ecologically sustainable and renewable material.
The Marcus Wallenberg Prize is awarded each year for scientific discoveries in forest industrial research. The prize amount is SEK 2 million and this year's award ceremony was held at the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm.
The Marcus Wallenberg Prize was established in 1980 by the then Stora Kopparbergs Bergslags AB, today Stora Enso, where Marcus Wallenberg (1899-1982) was chairman of the board.

King Carl Gustaf and queen Silvia attended today the inauguration of Märta Måås-Fjetterström's rugs "Se på mattorna – det är jag" ("Look at the rugs – find me"). Also princess Christina attended.

On Friday, October 11, the King inaugurated the exhibition "Look at the rugs – find me" with a selection of the textile artist Märta Måås-Fjetterström's work. The exhibition is displayed in the Hall of State at the Royal Palace and opens to the public on Sunday.
This year is 100 years since Märta Måås-Fjetterström's business started and the King has taken the initiative for the exhibition, about and with her work. Several of the rugs shown come from the royal collections and are now on display for the first time. Together with external funding, the exhibition presents sixty works that reflect Märta Måås-Fjetterström's production until her death in 1941.
During the inauguration, the King gave a speech in which he said:
“Ever since I was a kid, I have been surrounded by Märta Måås-Fjetterström's rugs and tissues. They were both in our own home and at the home of my grandfather, King Gustaf VI Adolf. And also with our relatives in Denmark and Norway. Yes, they are really 'the rug where I as a child played', with blocks and cars, at Haga, Ulriksdal, Sofiero and Solliden. Märta Måås-Fjetterström's rugs are part of our family's history. But they are also Swedish design history."

15 degrees cold, sun and sparkling snow. The Jokkmokk market has been celebrated for a total of 415 years and today, on the Sami national day, the royal couple was in place to put a golden edge on the folk party.
- It was perfect weather when they came, cold and really crispy, the sun was really sparkling in the snow crystals. But now it has become a little warmer and the royal couple does not look too frozen, says Malin Andersson at the county administrative board in Norrbotten.
Queen Silvia sat next to her and smiled in her beautiful Sami costume.
- She wore it already this morning when she arrived, and she has received a lot of compliments, Malin says.

The visit began with the royal couple meeting with the Sami Parliament's Chairman Per-Olof Nutti, Sirge's Sami Village Chairman Mikael Kuhmunen and Jåhkågaska's Chairman Jan-Erik Länta, who informed about the reindeer industry's conditions and challenges regarding forestry, aquaculture and mining.
In conjunction with lunch, the royal couple met, among other things, the Sami Parliament's Board and Chairmans.
After lunch, the King and Queen visited Jokkmokk market which has a long history and is regarded as an unbroken tradition for more than 400 years. In the market, the Sami national day was noticed and from a scene made of snow, The King's song was performed at the Lule Sami as well as the Sami national anthem. The King then gave a speech where he said:
"The Sami story is an important part of the Swedish. Sami traditions in everything from music to crafts enrich Swedish culture. We are reminded of this, not least here at Jokkmokk's market - a meeting place with over 400 years of history."
Sami education center
At the Sami educational center, the King and Queen got to participate in a student exhibition made by the second-year students of the craft line. The center was founded in 1942 and has since then provided education to the Sami people.
The Mountain and Sami Museum Ájtte
At the Ájtte Museum, the King and Queen received a display of a Sami handicraft exhibition and met three Sami entrepreneurs and artists. The Museum Ájtte shows exhibits about the nature of the mountain region and the Sami culture from the national border in the west and down in the forest land, 1,000 km from south to north.

According to the calendar, the king and queen attended yesterday at the Assembly Evening.
The Royal Court Parish is a parish within the Church of Sweden, and is made up of the Royal Family, those who work or have worked at the Royal Court or the Royal Staff, and their families. The parish church for the members is the Royal Chapel.
An assembly evening is held twice a year in the Bernadotte Library, which is regularly attended by The King and Queen who host the evening. A talk on a topical subject is always given on these occasions, and Court Organist Mary Ljungquist Hén arranges the music.

On Tuesday, April 21, the King and Queen held a telephone meeting with Lena Hallengren, the Minister for Health and Social Affairs.
Minister Lena Hallengren told to the King and Queen about the decisions taken in the Government's areas of responsibility in connection with the covid-19 pandemic, and how the fight against the spread is being handled around Sweden.

According to the calendar, the king and queen had also a video meeting with representatives from Wallenberg Foundations, Novare and Sophiahemmet University about Beredskapslyftet (Skill Shift Initiative).

King Carl Gustaf and queen Silvia met today the media, at least the photographers, outside Stenhammar Castle.

The royal couple took action when the corona virus burst in Stockholm. They left the capital for a quieter existence at Stenhammar Castle, outside Flen. See the pictures from their new everyday life!
Fresh spring air and fast dog walks. The royal couple may be in a strange situation. The corona virus prevents them from representing Sweden in the country, nor can they meet their children and grandchildren at this time.
But the calm existence at Stenhammar also contains a lot of light smiles. They have always longed for more free time on the castle saws, outside Flen, and now the king can also devote himself to his beloved farming!
We also get to see how the queen bends down at the stone wall to pick nettles - maybe she plans to cook a springy nettle soup for her husband! The royal couple has limited their social contacts, so no major kitchen staff now at Stenhammar.

On Thursday, May 14, the King and Queen gave digital audience to representatives from Sweden's City Missions.
During the digital representation, the King and Queen were given information about the activities of the city missions around Sweden and how they adjusted their activities on the occasion of the covid-19 pandemic.
The Royal Foundation supports the city missions
Earlier this spring, the King decided that Prince Carl Gustaf's foundation would distribute a special grant of SEK half a million to Sweden's City Missions, in order to alleviate the strain of the ongoing pandemic, especially for the country's elderly.
Operations are moving closer to target groups
On the part of the city missions, great efforts have been made to maintain the operations, as already vulnerable groups become even more vulnerable. Among other things, several businesses have moved out in the residential areas to get closer to the target groups. Lotta Säfström, chair of Sweden's city missions, told that in March the number of free meals distributed in Gothenburg doubled.
The King couple also received information on how Sweden's city missions prepare the operations for the time after the corona virus.

King Carl Gustaf inaugurated the Themed Gardens competition (This year's theme: Hemester) at Solliden today, and queen Silvia attended with the king. And Brandie attended too, of course. This is the sixth year the competition is organized in Solliden Palace Park, at Gustaf V's croquet field. This year the inauguration was done without any audience.

SVT interviewed the king and queen. The reporter asked:
Did the King have any favorite of these?
- Sure, but I'm not telling it to you now.
The king said later:
- I think it's very fun. They are real creators with great ideas. We all have that. We can all use our own thoughts and ideas and create something you know. For your own pleasure and tranquility, but also to create some excitement and tease someone, and so on ... It is up to one to come to what one thinks is exciting.
The reporter asked from queen Silvia: What do you take with you from the exhibition?
- I think it is very nice, because it is so relevant with holidays at home now. You can get ideas here on how to do it at home and have in your garden, so you can rest a little and think of other thoughts.

The royal couple paid tribute to the Öland Inhabitant of the Year
On Friday, July 10, the King awarded the Solliden Award to entrepreneur Gillis Dahlström. The award was presented at a ceremony at Solliden Palace, Öland. The Queen also attended the ceremony.
This year's Solliden Award was awarded to Gillis Dahlström and the motivation was:
This year's laureate is an entrepreneur who has taken classic food craftsmanship to new levels. Firmly rooted in the island's traditions, he has over the past decade, with his own recipe in the background, built a growing business around the Öland national dish. During the strange spring of 2020, Arontorp's kroppkakor with great creativity have found new ways to the customers' stomachs.”
