I don`t really agree with all the critic against MM. I think she looks wonderful. Ok, she has a fuller figur than most of the other princesses, but in my opinion she looks happy and glorious anyway.

For me it has nothing to do with a fuller figure than when HRH was pregnant, I think Mette-Marit looks just great but her choices in evening wear were (for me) no where near as good as what they could have been.

Mind you I bet they are blooming expensive ;) :)

I'm afraid I am little late:eek: but here it goes

Happy Birthday to His Majesty King Carl Gustaf!

I would like to THANK all that managed to stay online covering such a marvellous event... I will take centuries to see this thread in detail but for what I've managed to see until now I was WOW (Princesses looked like Queens, Queens looked so young that looked like Princesses) :) ... then I read your comments and I'll have to check the entire thread again :D

I've made an humble Slideshow from photos I scanned from Hola magazine, but due to server problems I wasn't able to post it before.

Enjoy!

Regards,

mtbcm :)

I think Mary's figure looked beautiful - Mette-Marit's figure is quite a bit fuller and she and Maxima look chunky next to Mary.

I've only just checked into this thread, Rym looks wonderful. I don't like the blue suit she wore but her evening dresses seem spectacular. More importantly though was the fact that she looked fantastic and her husband seemed perfectly proud to let her shine.

also, the Swedish family foundation (or whatever it's called) has quite a few tiaras.

if you look in the Danish jewelry box you will find there isn't really that many tiaras to choose from. unless you want to look like a star trek experiment: (upper right picture)

right..luckely our royals got quite a few tiara's ...
but on of the most beautiful ones IMO is in Mary's hands though..and that's the Ruby tiara (or whatever it's called.... *wishes it would have stayed in sweden...*)

It seems awfully rude to King Carl Gustaf and his birthday to fill up his birthday thread with complaints about the Windsors not showing.

There's a thread in the British forums called The Windsors and Europe which discusses the relationship the Windsors have (or don't have) with their European royal cousins.

If you wish to join the discussion there, feel free to drop by but please let's keep this thread confined to the discussions of the birthday events themselves.

Thanks

I'm late to the game but firstly thank you to all the pictures, clips etc. they are all fantastic:

Best Dressed on the Saturday night:
Queen Sofia-show looked stunning and showed every Royal woman there how it should done
Rosario- Gorgeous dress and her hair looked fantastic
Rym- Wow! She looked spectacular, so incredibly glamorous, she was glowing (and how proud did Prince Ali look of his wife?!)
Maxima- Gorgeous dress with lovely jewellery

The Daytime Outfits-
Mathilde- Wow, simply stunning not much to say as all you need to do is look at the photos.
Victoria- Nice colours and a great jacket
Madeline- Beautiful outfit, slightly mature for her but itwas well cut and she looked marvellous nonetheless.

The Gala
Rosario- Loved her dress, it looked so delicate
Rym- I liked the Medieval theme she'd chosen, clearly a style she likes!

Overall I didn't like the gala dresses and thought that most had been better dressed on the Saturday night.

"humble slideshow" very impressive I thinkVery good, you can be very proud of your work ! Thanks a lot

fantastic pictures, thank you.
I like Prss. Rosario the gala dress and the white of Marie Chantal, I think are gorgerous.

It is beautiful photo on Prince Carl Philip and Princess Lilian. He is see out grandchildren to Princess Lilian. She is mother and grandmother of royal family of Sweden.

Much has been said about the various outfits and women present. By and large they all looked very elegant. Maxima looked great in the red gown and her tiara for once looked fabulous. Matilde always is gorgeous, but looked pregnant. Is she? Mette Marit has a sweet face, but needs a clothes coordinator. Beatirx is a lovely women, but also needs someone to redo her look. Mary is stunning and, although, I loved her look the color of the gown was too pale for her, Princess Victoria and Madeleine could wear paper bags and look good. They are stunning. Queen silvia's gown was probably done with an eye to the very large tiara she wore. Paola and Sonja both looked elegant. As did the few picture of Queen Sofia. Rosairo looked like a stick figure and Marie Chantal like a Greek milkmaid.

Damn you guys should make a bash thread or something.

Well I thought all of them looked fabulous regardless of whatever. To me NOBODY looked bad.

I was very disappointed that the Princess Caroline of Monaco didn't attended... :( Indeed, she was attended to the birthday of the King of Sweden 10 years ago (50th birthday)

Why??? His brother the Prince Albert II of Monaco was also there...

Thanks ;)

On Sunday night Mary's gown was ok. I felt it was more to show off her figure but the color and style were kind of boring. I would love to see that in a beautiful rose color. Also it looked very uncomfortable to sit in, based on how she appeared in the formal portrait. Her day outfit on Sunday was stunning.
Maxima's Sunday night outfit I can't decide on. On the one hand she kind of looks like a pageant winner, w/the red and blue and the sash and tiara. On the other hand I think it does look the most "princessy" of the women that night besides Victoria or Madeleine. Her makeup was very disappointing - I wish the dark cheek color would disappear. Her ensemble with the turquoises was perfect : elegant , regal, and very flattering. And her hair - not one out of place!
Mathilde's gown was probably just a little too tight around the middle and flash photography didn't help. I don't think she is pregnant. She has had many pregnancies so just has a little extra there right now.
Marie Chantal looked angelic on Sunday but both her and Pavlos looked too thin.

Wow! I missed so many pages I could not see for the past few days. I have to say this was one spectacular international birthday party. Everybody looks great, all royals from so many nations are like one great international family from Norway to Jordan.

On the pictures of Princess Mary and her father in law I have one small comment. I don't know if she is right handed but when he held her left arm it seem kind of strange pose. I think she should have been walking on his left side and she was the one supposed to place her arm on his'. Oh well.

love love LOVE this laurel leaf crown! Ooooo, I want something like this on my head if I get married one day.

That was one of the best and most originals. A very Napoleonic-Roman Empire tiara.
It was nice of Maxima to share her Prince's arm with Princess Mary http://s2.supload.com/image.php?get=20-20060502022725.jpg What happened to her escort? But in any case, all these Royals and their commoner wives do present a great image of unity like I've never seen before. Mary, Maxima and Mathilde seem so much as part of the family as the rest of the blood relatives.

I read in a german newspaper Queen Silvia was holding a very personel and touching speech during the official banquet on Sunday. King Carl Gustav was really moved. Does anybody found the speech or could tell where I can find it? And it is possible to translate it in english. The newspaper tells it was holding in swedish.

That Dress

Does anyone notice that this dress worn by the girlfriend of Carl Phillip at the private dinner is very similar to the one worn by HRH Crown Princess Victoria at the pre-wedding banquet of HRH The Infanta Cristina in 1997.

Do you have a photo of CP Victoria at Cristina's pre-wedding banquet? I believe CP Victoria may have worn a navy blue outfit.

sorry I was only able to check in an old issue of Hello! that I had (1997), she wore navy blue to the actual wedding, but the night before at a semi-gala dinner she wore a dress almost identical to the one above.

I adore that crown. I didn't know Mathilde was a commoner.

I meant to add, Maxima looks quite slimmed down. Her face is smaller.

There are a few informal photos from Sunday at the website below.
http://www.princeradu.ro/index.php?page=info&cid=196

hmm.. a great link. i was quite surprised they put up sunch informal photos on their official website.
It looks like the younger royals are forming their own group. Mette-Marit was chatting with Marie-Chantal, with Haakon also. and Mary with Mathilde, Maxima, Pavlos, and the others. ;)
