Just wanted to share this: The primary dialect in Zamboanga City (my parents' home town) is Chabacano, a mix of Spanish and Filipino dialects. Queen Sofia probably understood the songs and speeches made in Chabacano because it's almost completely Spanish, except for the conjugation and the words rooted in Visayan. ;)

HM Queen Sofia visits Fort Pilar Shrine, a famous Catholic Pilgrimage Site in Zamboanga, dedicated to the Nuestra Señora Virgen del Pilar (a popular venerated image of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Spain). The Queen also offered prayers and candles at the Shrine, accompanied by a Filipino Catholic Priest:

In her visit, Queen Sofia scores a goal worthy of a World Cup
On the heels of Spain winning again the European World Cup, which followed through its 2010 World Cup victory, Queen Sofia may be said to have scored a goal during her visit of the Philippines. The four-day visit consolidated gains in Spanish-Philippine relations, deepening cultural, economic and development ties while advancing Madrid’s campaign for the reintroduction of Spanish-language instruction in Philippine basic education.
