It has been in this place to pace of batucada, a singing hope of the former black slaves, where the peoples of Cidade Velha have expressed her happiness for having between them the Queen, whom they have given handles and papayas that they themselves cultivate in the gardens that they have worked with help of the AECI, and that provide food to them to live.
The Queen was initiating her visit to Cidade Velha in San's Felipe Royal Fortaleza, in honor of the Spanish King, and that presides from the heights at the pleasant life of this population. One of the scanty monuments that remember the past of ten islands that, in half of the Atlantic Ocean, they form Cape Verde. His minister of Culture, Manuel Veiga, and the Spanish secretary of State of International Cooperation, Leire Pajín, they accompanied the Queen during her tour for this former reconstructed fortress stone on stone for Spanish Cooperation and the Government caboverdiano.
Of way up to another Spanish initiative, the Pousada de Sao Pedro, the first infrastructure to attract the tourism to the zone, dona Sofía could verify how, in an inhospitable environment, where the water is scanty, they grow the cane of sugar, the bananas and other fruits and vegetables. The Queen broke the protocol of the tour to approach to caress to a donkey, to give of drinking to a few porks and to see how a group of cows were feeding in the shade of the palms. The Government of Cape Verde has intention of presenting Cidade Velha's candidacy in order that the UNESCO declares World Patrimony, an initiative that the AECI will support with technical advice and previous studies.
