What I also love about her is that she is daily proof that beauty really does come from within. Because if you examine her features she has never been a great beauty--but she is, nevertheless, an extraordinarily beautiful woman.

I agree... she has an instinctive sense of what's appropriate and stylish at the same time. All the Spanish royal women seem to - including Letizia.

Queen Sofía is THE Queen. She knows how to dress properly, for sure, she is elegant and worthy...But more important than this, is that she always wore a sweet smile as the better of her jewels, and that she doesn't act coldly, as if being a Queen was just a job. She is a Queen BY HEART and you can notice it when she smiles to little children or shakes the hands of poor people.

She showed all these qualities in her African trip.

Vanesa.

I agree with all of you. Queen Sofia manages to dress simple but with elegance. And she is a very humanitarian person.

Cape Verde receives dona Sofía in the first visit of a queen in five centuries

Cidade Velha (Cape Verde), founded in the XVth century and with an architectural patrimony rehabilitated by the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation (AECI), has received dona Sofía to pace of batucada, traditional music of the island that has its origins in the neighboring African continent. Five centuries have had to happen in order that the people of this place saw for time first in person a Queen: dona Sofía.
In this coastal population plundered in several occasions for the pirates and slaves' former market, it began it does more than five centuries the history of Cape Verde, where the Queen has travelled to support with her presence the work of the cooperating Spanish who for years help the inhabitants to go out of the poverty. " We feel proud of them ", has said dona Sofía on having concluded a visit in Cidade Velha, to add: " The King has to come ".
(...)
It has been in this place to pace of batucada, a singing hope of the former black slaves, where the peoples of Cidade Velha have expressed her happiness for having between them the Queen, whom they have given handles and papayas that they themselves cultivate in the gardens that they have worked with help of the AECI, and that provide food to them to live.

The Queen was initiating her visit to Cidade Velha in San's Felipe Royal Fortaleza, in honor of the Spanish King, and that presides from the heights at the pleasant life of this population. One of the scanty monuments that remember the past of ten islands that, in half of the Atlantic Ocean, they form Cape Verde. His minister of Culture, Manuel Veiga, and the Spanish secretary of State of International Cooperation, Leire Pajín, they accompanied the Queen during her tour for this former reconstructed fortress stone on stone for Spanish Cooperation and the Government caboverdiano.

Of way up to another Spanish initiative, the Pousada de Sao Pedro, the first infrastructure to attract the tourism to the zone, dona Sofía could verify how, in an inhospitable environment, where the water is scanty, they grow the cane of sugar, the bananas and other fruits and vegetables. The Queen broke the protocol of the tour to approach to caress to a donkey, to give of drinking to a few porks and to see how a group of cows were feeding in the shade of the palms. The Government of Cape Verde has intention of presenting Cidade Velha's candidacy in order that the UNESCO declares World Patrimony, an initiative that the AECI will support with technical advice and previous studies.

Queen visits infantile school and I centre of disabled

The Queen visited this evening in Praia, the capital of Cape Verde, a school for children with problems of learning and a center of rehabilitation for disabled persons, and was interested for the archaeological wealth that there hide the waters that surround this Atlantic archipelago.
Accompanied by the first lady caboverdiana, Adelcia Pires, promoter of the project, dona Sofía was in the school ' Happy Infancy ', where nowadays they receive school average support hundred of children and girls with difficulties in studies.
A group of those small ones sang for the Queen, they said to her that they are ' the hope of Cabo Verdé and who they feel proud of to have been born here, in spite of the difficulties that there are in the day to day. Two of them showed to her how in the school they learn something for which specially the caboverdianos are authorized: music.
Doña Sofía crossed a exhibition with pieces of submarine archaeology and utensils of daily use at previous times, show of the preoccupation of the Government by their cultural patrimony and to sensitize to the population for their conservation.
(...)
Dona Sofía concluded her second day of stay in Green Cape - tomorrow she will return to Spain in the first hour of the evening - in the National Orthopaedic Center and of Functional Rehabilitation for disabled persons, where they live and work. Of occupational workshops there are made candles and soap, which then is commercialized to help to the economic maintenance of the center.

Cape Verde is one of the most beatiful countries on the world. Queen Sofía must have enjoyed her trip very much. Cape Verdeans are very cheerful people, and receive visitors wonderfully. I didn't visit this country, but a friend of mine did and show me lots of very impressing photos from there, and spoke me great things about it. Cape verdean music is very energetic...Do you know the singer Cesarea Ëvora? She rocks!

Vanesa.
