A quick history:

The Queen Sofia Foundation was started on May 17, 1977 with a small capital, which Her Majesty the Queen had provided herself.
The aim of the Foundation is to promote, help and develope th needs, both physical and piritual, of all classes of men and women, total integration into the society, deneding the rights of the citizens, the availability of Arts, Science, preservation of regional and local characteristics traditions, the artistic and cultural treasures of Spain, human, technical and professional qualification.

In 1993 the Queen Sofia Foundation spent considerable part of its finances to aid Bosnia.

The Foundation Queen Sofia destines to solidary works 6,6 million

The charitable foundation that Her Majesty the Queen created 31 years ago with the small capital contributed personally by Doña Sofía and that has been growing thanks to the generosity of institutions, companies and individuals, announced yesterday the planning of activities for the next three years, in which it will destine a whole of 6,627 million Euros to different solidary projects inside and out of Spain.

Slightly more than the half of this money (3.924.400 Euros) will be destined to projects related to Alzheimer's disease and to supporting the investigation of this pathology, which is one of the priorities of the Foundation Queen Sofia from 2002.

The foundation of the Queen will destine another important part (2.234.000 Euros) to different solidary projects related to the infancy, the education, the immigration and the environment, which they will develop NGO of recognized prestige in Spain, Latin America, Africa and Middle East.
