Gosh,
I am really shocked... not by the stumble but also the helpless first steps when entering the room with his one crutch .... gosh, as the hip Operation has been already quite a while ago, something did not heal the way it should have ....

He has been looking fragile and not well for the past few months or lets say year. I wonder if it's hip or something else.

The king's recovery has been slower than expected. One of his hips causes problems, and he is to undergo various tests to see what the problem is and how best to fix it.

I think JC has been stubborn with his illness, he is one of those people having lived life at full throttle, not believing that a hip can force them to slow down, what comes like this will go like this etc. He is learning to be patient or look after himself the hard way. But in the end, he can be a King on crutches or even in a wheelchair, as long as his mind stays 100%.

Rumors of abdication for King Juan Carlos

Ever since I woke up, there have been rumors about a possible abdication in Spain since the Royal House is set to give an announcement at 4pm (Spain Time), several journalists and media people are reporting a big deal happening at that hour but no one has confirmed anything yet

Perhaps they will announce that the king will need some more time for his recovery and that Felipe will take over some of his father's duties? An abdication.... I don't think that JC is the type to abdicate (but you never know) and I am also not sure if this would be the time for it, it would be a rather sad ending to a very successful reign - which is too easily forgotten at the moment. Abdications should not be about who scores best in popularity polls IMO.

Yes, twitter is very active with the topic.

According to some sources, the news is that King Juan Carlos is to be transferred to the United States to undergo surgery for a Spanish orthopedic specialist at the Mayo Clinic.

In that case, they may decide to apply the regency .I have many more doubts about an abdication.

The recent article in Vanity Fair was speculating about an abdication. Between his health issues and the whole hunting elephant and mistress fiasco, it wouldnt surprise me. Felipe's popularity with the public is much higher than JC's in the polls.

Vanity Fair article has stated very clearly what will happen or not happen:

For the most part, Spain’s political and media establishments would prefer that the King stay, fearing a shock to the system were he to leave while the nation is in such dire straits. “We are very clear against abdication,” said Pedro Ramírez. “You ask for the resignation of the minister of health or foreign affairs if he has done something wrong. But you don’t ask for the abdication of the King, just because he has been out of the country on a weekend in Botswana with a blonde woman. El Mundo is saying the only two scenarios in which we would ask for abdication would be, first, if he has a serious health problem—mainly mental incapacity. And, second, if there were not circumstantial evidence but real proof of wrongdoing.”

hm, thinking about the way he Looks and he moves, this may be the best solution - whereas this is another big surgery..... and many of them already happened during the last 2 years...
But for sure better than keeping the (bad) Status quo.

I think a regency is the most likely announcement.

Its kind of difficult. But the sad reality is that some of our favorite Monarchs like Queen Elizabeth, King Juan Carlos, and Queen Margaret of Denmark are now coming toward the end of this life. But their hardwork and legacies will live on

I don't think the King will ever abdicate, he, along with Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Margrethe II, will reign until the day he falls from the Throne, dead. And that's a good thing, Kingship is a job for life, in my opinion.

But maybe a Regency will turn to be a good idea. The King will be able to relax and recover, and the Prince of Asturias will get the chance to show he'll be a good Sovereign, and I have no doubts he will.

I had a feeling it was more medical related than abdicating rumours, but I guess those ones will continue with the Kings ill health.

I concur. The only way Elizabeth is leaving Buckingham Palace is on her death bed. Which I think will buy Charles and Camilla time to win more public approval

My guess is that this is a risky surgery, hence all the fanfare.

JMHO, of course.
