Am I understanding it correctly when I assume he's returning the collar of the order granted to his father?

Is this normal procedure in Spain?
 
The Order of the Golden Fleece, is a special order and very exclusive. King Juan Carlos delivered only 23, most to monarchs.

It must be returned to the king when the person to whom the king gave it dies, it is not hereditary nor transmissible, and each piece is numbered because they are limited in number.

King Juan Carlos will have a new office in the Royal Palace of Madrid, from there he will continue to hold some meetings. He will attend some official events on behalf of his son and keep the honorary presidency of some organizations.

Queen Sofía will keep her office in Zarzuela Palace, she will hold the presidency of her foundation and she would attend cultural events.

NOT in my opinion... they might just have well have commissioned a vast photograph, there is nothing 'painterly' or visually arresting about it, whatsoever !
 
Well, Antonio López's style is hyperrealism.

I love his panoramic views of Madrid.
