Well - to me M-T seems to be a huge asset for Luxembourg - with or without the much disputed jewels of her mother in law on her head !!!

Her neck must really hurt after all of that. Hardly anyone was at her eye level. She looked wonderful though.

I'm not trying to turn this into a "guess how tall the royals are" moment but no one else noticed how short MT was before?

Anyway, thanks for the pix drimal!

In Wort there's an article about a motion to apparently diminish the powers of the Grand Duke and give women the right to success too - it says that Henri supports the latter. I didn't understand too much about the article, but apparently the socialists are behind the motion (which makes sense), and they feel that current legislation from the 19th century is outdated. I never knew the monarch has so much power in the country.

Hmm, I was wondering the same thing. I thought they were supposed to be so rich. I didn't know they owned a forest. How cool.

Yes, within the budget frame; meaning that rather than paying the debts off the family's private funds they used the government allowance. Also, the article says that the family pays no taxes and that they have the total private wealth of around 4,67 billion € - GD Jean 1,2 bn, Henri 385 mn, Maria-Teresa 25 mn (it says "Not bad for a Cuban").

Henri has been in power for five years and in that time, it seems, he has pretty much screwed things up Not good.

Is this article reffering to their son prince Felix?
LisaMaria, what did you mean by Henri has skrewed things up?

Yes, son Felix.

What I mean is that the current GD has faced a lot of heavy criticism that his father was never subjected to; for what I have gathered from the media, many of his actions have been scrutinised by the politicians, who have questioned his position as the leader of the country - the odd adventure with the Grünewald forest, the sale of Josephine-Charlotte's jewellery, the financial troubles, the sudden urge to change the constitution to limit the monarch's powers and his budged, Louis' baby and marriage, the assumed trouble in his marriage, all sorts of things have happened within a short period of time and that has undermined his position as a leader. A little while ago the prime minister, Jean-Claude Juncker, defended the DG and announced that there is no ground for criticism and that Henri has done everything by the book. By him screwing up I meant simply that he hasn't managed to stay above and out of this kind of controversy the way his father apparently managed - when he stepped down, Jucker said he has ruled without error, without flaw.

But I guess it is natural that every monarch's position is evaluated every once and a while and he will pull through. But if this latest about Felix is true, things don't look sunny. I have gathered there is a small but loud republican fraction in Luxembourg, and they are definitely having a field day with this
