i found this fun old interview with the GD couple

Photos – Charlène de Monaco - Nouveau look pour sa nouvelle vie de maman

they speak at the end about the fact that back when they married, st valentine's wasn't something that was celebrated in europe, so they didn't know that when they picked their wedding date, they just chose a convenient date.

Constitutional reform was discussed on July 6th to bring more legal clarity between Parliament, Government, and Head of State. The amendments are expected to be finalized for a referendum in 2018. The Grand Duke’s inviolability remains intact and he "will continue to play more of a symbolic role in the constitution. It should be clarified that it has no political powers."

L'essentiel Online - «Der Großherzog bleibt unantastbar» - Luxemburg

Volksfreund’s article seems more gossipy although it has more information:
  • The current constitution, despite being amended 37 times, is basically a copy of the Belgian Constitution
  • "The role of the Chamber of Deputies is enhanced"
  • The Grand Duke as head of state is reduced to a symbol of unity and "should not be allowed to dissolve parliament"
  • Reputation of the GDF has suffered
  • The many Nassau royals is a costly affair
  • Family disputes don’t belong in public

On September 1st, GD Henri and GD Maria Teresa attended a reception for "Meet Luxembourg 2016" at the Grand Ducal Palace.
Most of the "Meet Luxembourg 2016" event happens at the European Convention Center Luxembourg (ECCL) in Kirchberg from Sep. 1-3, and aims to promote Luxembourg as an ideal destination for business tourism MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Events).

Grumbles about GD Henri's upcoming attendance at the informal meeting of German-speaking countries.

"Given the historical weight of two world wars and mistrust maintained for a long time vis-à-vis the German origins of the House of Nassau, such a step seemed unthinkable just a few years. Especially since the 1984 Law on the use of languages is not a German-Luxembourg State. It is therefore surprising that the difficult decision to join the German heads of state was taken in 2014 without consultation within the government," writes Lëtzebuerger Land. It notes that "the Grand Duke, however, tends to shun the Francophone Summit which takes place every two years."

Prime Minister Xavier Bettel responded "there's nothing to invoke Article 45 of the Constitution," which states that "the provisions of the Grand Duke must be countersigned by a member of responsible government." and that an "informal meeting does not bind Luxembourg politically." GD Henri informed the PM about going each time and PM Bettel doesn't see anything wrong with this approach.

Gouvernement : une reprise presque symbolique

I'm puzzled. I've read the GDF has been criticized for being too Francophone so wouldn't GD Henri's attendance at a German focused event be a good thing? There certainly isn't going to be a gathering of Lëtzebuergesch countries...

I am also puzzled, given that the Grand Duke attended the meeting in 2014 and 2015, and it is surprising to me that Luxembourg is allegedly anti-German more than 70 years after World War Two.

GD Maria Teresa visited refugee families at the center for international protection (DPI) in Dudelange ahead of the new school year.

After the guided tour of the premises of the home, HRH Grand Duchess met in the privacy of families from Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria to discuss their course, their integration in Luxembourg and in particular on the education of children. A young Syrian was proud to propose a short piano recital.

Like all other Luxembourg children, 33 children and adolescents aged 3 to 16 years accommodated in the center of Dudelange prepare for their return to school. The accommodation center for applicants for international protection, built on the former site of Arbed in Dudelange, opened its doors on 1st March 2016 and currently hosts 74 people, including 13 families and 12 single men.

GD Maria Teresa appeared on Belgian TV on September 9th. The show "C'est du Belge" followed the Grand Duchess as she prepared for a dinner at Berg Castle.

From her green outfit, it appears to have been recorded at the dinner for Chambre des députés in April.

I liked watching it very much and thought I would translate the main bits. The video focuses on the preparation of an official dinner at the chateau Berg. The interviewer mentions that the grand duchess is very involved in the preparations and takes care of every detail of such activities.
Firstly we see the duchess meeting up with the chefs asking them to prepare a foie gras for starters, but not to put too much of it as it can be heavy.
She mentions she inherited this taste for welcoming people and coordinating the details for her guests from her mother in law.
Then we see her setting up the table with the silverware and the flower arrangements. We get to see the florists at work. the grand duchess’s dog even makes an appearance for the delight of all the guests.
She’s obviously a perfectionist, the grand duchess then mentions that she thinks there’s too many flowers.
We then get to see the chefs again. The menu has foie gras, filet mignon and vacherin glace. The way it works is that they make some suggestions to the grand duchess about different plates they can make based on the occasion, the season, and then the grand duchess chooses.
the grand duchess comes back to check again the tables and approves. We then see the grand duke, who says he trusts the grand duchess.
The guests then arrive and we see the royal family welcoming them.

I was watching the video. Very nice! I love how Maria Teresa is so detailed oriented and she spoke nicely of her late mother-in-law whom we all know had a strained relationship with her. Very nice touch there!

I have a question, I'm not a native French speaker, in fact, my French is pretty bad, so I can't distinguish between accents. For those who are native French speakers, what type of accent does MT speak with? Does she speak with a Swiss accent, since her formative years were lived in Switzerland, or does she Speak with a French accent, or perhaps she still speaks with foreign accent or she has acquired a Luxembourg accent? Can somebody tell me? Thanks!
