She seems to have recovered well to me. She uses a walking stick, but after all she is an 80-year-old lady; given her age, it is perfectly understandable, IMO.

.

Queen Paola visited the Arc-en-Ciel school in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Brussels, today, May 29. The school is supported by the Queen Paola Foundation's School of Hope project:

She is still very beautiful and elegant, and she really seems to engage with the people around her. :flowers:

They will stay in Italy until the end of August.
They did have a lot of official belgian engagements this year!

Hopefully they found some Italian security guards if not their endless vacationing each year in Italy is rather expensive for the Belgian state.

The Abdication was a unexpected but was necessary.

We have now a real team . A king , A queen and 4 young Children who are going everywhere for glory or sad Events. A Royal Family among the belgian people who never did a faux pas.
We never had it since King Albert the First.
Concerning King Albert II he asked for more money for his private boat wich is in Italy. The Gouvernment of course refused.
He is well paid for what he is doing!

Though they are more of less retired from public life but they do spend a lot of time on 'holidays' in Italy.

That is Paola's native homeland, pretty logical they stay there in that beautiful country. I hope I can do the same when I am retired...

Queen Paola suffers a stroke last night.

"The Radio Télévision Belge Francophone (RTBF) is reporting that Her Majesty Queen Paola of Belgium suffered a stroke last night. She was vacationing in Venice with her husband, King Albert of Belgium. She will be flown back to Belgium via Melsbroek Airport this afternoon. There are no details on the severity of the stroke. She is 81 years old and has suffered from several health problems these last few years."

BREAKING: Queen Paola of Belgium suffers stroke – Royal Central

Oh dear, that's bad news!

Hopefully it's not as bad as it sounds and the quick and excellent medical treatment in Italy and Belgium will immediately help and lead to a full recovery!

According to RTBF her life isn't in danger. Court should give further updates in the next hours.

It is not sure yet the Queen will be flown to Melsbroek Airbase, the palace still has not given a communiqué.

My very best wishes for the Queen.

:-(

Apparently they were in Venice when she suffered the stroke. She is a regular visitor to the annual Biennale there, which is also taking place right now.

The palace now confirmed that the Queen has had medical problems but they do not say what.

if She was in Belgium she should have been treated immediately . It is Belgium the result of Her AVC will be communicated.
Are the Doctors in Italy so bad?
When you have health problems you don' stay away too long from your Doctors and eternelly on holiday.
King Albert II is nothing without Queen Paola !

I think the reason they are bringing her to Belgium is that there she will get priority and the absolute best healthcare they can offer due to being a member of the Royal Family, she wouldn't get the same kind of preferential treatment in Italy.

That's my guess.

Oh for Heavens' sake, no! We have good doctors here. And she was in Venice, so definitely not in some remote area of the country with small hospitals. She would receive the best of care possible, just like any other person. She is going back to Belgium because Paola has her own doctors there who know her and her medical history better than Italian doctors.

Come on! I am just back from three weeks in Italy. It is a first world country with absolutely top-class health care. In nothing it trails behind Belgium. I can even imagine the Queen, an Italian herself, would prefer treatment there.

The Italian hospitals are in no way worse than hospitals in any other western european country. Ofcourse she would get priority in any hospital if her health demands it. Doctors will always do everything they can to save your life regardless of you being a Royal or not. She is being brought back to Belgium because she is a member of the Belgian Royal family and has her own doctors in Brussels who knows her and her medical history best.

No communiqué, nothing on monarchie.be about the health of Queen Paola.

Really strange, or they did not even think about it?

I heard this news on the radio.

I hope she will recover.

It seems the Queen is fairly well. No loss of speech, no loss of movement, just a malaise probably in connection with the cerebral and cardiovascular system. No danger and no urgence.

So all by all it is not so serious as it looks like when reading: "a stroke".

A whole airplane for the King and the Queen to go to a Catholic University Clinique where as usual she will have 4 rooms and her private "matelas" will arrive from Belvedère Castle.

And we pay.!

Having just a serious illness, lucky I have an insurance because the amounts to pay are so important.

I am sure in Italy you have excellent Doctors but they are back to Belgium where for Royals a lot is free of charge !.

What do you mean: "We pay"? Any resident in Belgium, even illegals, have right on medical treatment. It does not matter one is a pauper or a royal. Doctors in Belgium will help you.

I am surprised with your remark. I can not imagine that when Prince Philip, Prince Henrik or Princess Beatrix were in hospital, people would make remarks about the costs. That the Queen is transported with an aeroplane: of course. Ordinary Belgians are also transported with special flights if needed and we can not expect Queen Paola, King Albert and the whole escort in a full comnercial Air Italia plane to Brussels. Come on.
