King Harald and Queen Sonja to visit Nordland – Royal Central
The Norwegian royal court confirmed yesterday in a press release that this year’s annual county-tour will go to Nordland-county which is in the north of Norway.

Their Majesty The King and Queen will visit Nordland from 12 to 14 June. The visit will include a visit in the municipalities of Sørfold, Steigen, Røst, Værøy and Moskenes. The Norwegian royal yacht “Norge” will be used during this year’s journey.

King Harald and Queen Sonja will kick off their visit in Straumen on the morning of 12 June. In Sørfold the royal couple will be present at a folk festival at Straumen School. The royal couple will greet some of the municipality’s elderly. In the sports hall at the school, the royal couple will participate in the daily work at the school.

There have been several articles about it in the Norwegian press - and I'm (of course) looking forward to it.

Today Queen Sonja at New York announce the collaboration between her art foundation QSPA and Hurtigruten. QSPA will curate the decoration of the new ship, MS Roald Amundsen

“The Viking ships were decorated with the most beautiful wooden carvings: Dragon heads and flowers, ornaments and animals adorned Leiv Eiriksson’s ship – as he fought his way through the waves towards Newfoundland, where he first set foot. Today, a 1000 years later – we continue the tradition – and decorate a proud ship – sailing on our oceans on a much more peaceful mission than back in the early Viking age!

I never knew of that Viking custom. Is there any reconstruction of those carvings?

Yes, there is (I've seen them myself).

Here are two articles from yesterday's visit:

King Harald visits Gjesdal and Bjerkreim – Royal Central
King Harald of Norway has a personal goal to visit all the municipalities in Norway. Yesterday, His Majesty visited two towns that he has never been to on an official visit. This happened the day after he handed out a cancer research award in memory of his father, King Olav. Yesterday the journey went to Gjesdal and Bjerkreim, in western Norway.

The visit started in Gjesdal, and when the King arrived at the local school, he was met with flags and songs. At the front of the choir were the two siblings, Lise and Tobias Vølstad. Those two had written a letter to King Harald and invited him to Gjesdal. When the children had finished their songs, the King was welcomed by Mayor Frode Fjeldsbø and Principal Trond Niemi at the Gjesdal Youth School.

The King’s commitment to children and youth’s upbringing environment was the focus during the visit to this municipality, which has the country’s youngest population. Here he heard from the children on how it was to grow up in Gjesdal.
King Harald making the rounds in Rogaland - Norway Today
Gjesdal and Bjerkreim received a visit from King Harald on Tuesday for the first time since his time on the throne. Despite gray weather, the king was in a great mood.

The royal couple arrived at the Gjesdal Youth School, Tuesday morning, where King Harald was received by the rector Trond Niemi, Gjesdal city major, Frode Fjeldsbø (Ap), county governor Magnhild Meltveit Kleppa and pupils from all over the municipality. Through a varied cultural program at the school, the king gained insight into the everyday life of the locals, which is what he appreciates the most when traveling around Norway.
HM visited alone, so this is an error from Norway Today.

See my above post for more information and photos.

Royal Central article: King Harald marked the day of liberation – Royal Central
On Tuesday, His Majesty King Harald of Norway participated in the events in memory of the Liberation Day and the National Veterans Day at Akershus fortress in Oslo.

Every year, 8 May is a day where Norway honours all veterans, from World War II and up to today’s international operations while they mark the liberation from the German occupation in 1945.

The Norwegian Royal Family has long traditions to participate at these events, as they themselves were directly affected during the war and had to live in exile for five years.

As one can see from 04:40 in the NRK video above, HM walked very well, despite his foot problems.

As I have written in other threads, the King is very concerned with women and children who are victims of violence (as I hope most normal people are), and have been engaged in this topic for many years.

Well, aren't they amazing?

After a hectic county visit to Nordland (which was concluded yesterday), and they are already back on duty, not bad.

--------------------

The Queen was actually a close friend of Jakob Weidemann, who died in 2001 at the age of 78. - And she has previously said that he was a great source of inspiration to her.

--------------------

The King presided over the Council of State at the Royal Palace today, as usual. - The Crown Prince was also in attendance.

The Queen visits Skudeneshavn and Avaldsnes on Karmøy today from 10:00 (09:00 UK time).

Infromation about the visit:
At 10.00 this morning, the Queen arrives with the Royal Yacht in Skudeneshavn where she is welcomed by the mayor and county governor.

Then she will take a walk in the streets of the city where she, among other things, will greet staff from Solstein (a local company, who has the task of finding jobs for individuals on disability pensions and producing products and services that can find a market in the local business community). She will also visit Badehuset (the bathhouse).

She arrives in Avaldsnes at 12.00. Among other things, she will have a tour around the History Center and Avaldsnes church.

Follow it here in this live-video: Karmøynytt - live
