70th Birthday Celebrations of King Harald V of Norway

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Have no idea- they seemed to be the only couple together along with the Norwegian royals. Why were Mathilde and Martha Louise together also; were they short of men at the party?

What I'd love to know is if Sophie was there. I saw Edward but not her, was she ill ?

She might have been with Lady Louise.

Sophie,Countess of Wessex not going to Norway with her husband and her sister in law last weekend for her more reasons i dont blame her but she staying with Lady Louise at home have to do but Sophie would go with him but Louise wanted MOM! and Louise dont like leave mom when her parent gone on state trips that not easy for that.

There was no reason given for Sophie not being there.

Regarding Mabel's dresses: Not everything that comes down the runway is suitable for wearing at dignified functions like royal events. This doesn't mean that she cannot wear V&R at royal events, just she must choose more tasteful outfits than the attention-grabbing, shear dresses she wore this past weekend.

I think ... after much reflection ..... the thing with Mabel and her dresses, is, that her face.

Her face is not what I would call photogenic .... and to cope with that, or put that in a good light, is a tremendous challenge.

I fear, she will always get the fashion wrong ...

MM looked stunning in that dress and with her hair curled! It looks like maybe she had some self tanner that helped also.

She was tanned because the whole family was in the Caribbean island of Antigua on vacation!

Oh my god...

Madeleine looks more like Paris Hilton than a princess of sweden :innocent: :innocent:

I have to agree with your comments. It looked to me as though she didn't like the dress down to the ground so she safety pinned the hem to her knickers. I don't think it suited the event at all. I'm not a great fan of Madelaine though so I don't think it matters what she wears.

I want to know about the party that the king had in Skaugum. Somebody can put photos of this day? please.

Do you know, which royal guest were attend by Lunch at Gut Toresplassen at Sunday? Which guest go by bus? Was queen Silvia attend, too?

As far as I know it was a private Party and there weren't any picture released.

Isn't this just a gorgeous Picture?

I don´t understand why the couples were seperated while they were entering the room. For example Philippe of Belgium escorted Madeleine while Mathilde was walking with Märtha-Louise is there a reason?

At the gala Princess Astrid of Belgium wore a large necklace I have never seen before...

Does anybody have information on that? Is it a Habsburg heirloom?

:)

Not Habsburg but Savoia-Aosta

The Habsburgs hardly have any jewels left since they were forced in exile. In contrary to the German states which agreed very generous transfers to their former ruling families, the Habsburgs were more or less ruïned.

The jewels worn by the Archduchess Lorenz of Austria-Este, Duchess of Modena née Princess Astrid of Belgium all are heirlooms out the House of Savoia-Aosta.

The mother of Archduke Lorenz was the Archduchess Robert of Habsburg-Este, Duchess of Modena née Princess Margherita of Savoia-Aosta.

It are her jewels that are now worn by Astrid. Various diademes, necklaces and other items.

The most elegant princess for me would have to be the Infanta Cristina of Spain. simple but superb and yet classy!!!

It may be that she isn' interested or woried about being pretty not every one worries about these things. I think maybe her role as Queen is more important than what she wears.

Victoria has said in interviews that she´s not really interested in clothes and fashion, that´s the reason she doesn´t put that mutch focus on clothes.

Is this the same party that Prince Haakon hosted, or were there two private parties that night?

I did see one pic of P. Haakons' party, that "clued me in" of that event.

what picture are you talking about?

i saw the group picture of the European Crown Princes and Princesses, and coudn't help wondering, from 5 crown princesses, 4 of them are bare neck! why?? MM look gorgeous, but i think the tiara is to small, isn't it? if, the people see it for the first time, i think they will think that she wasn't wear a tiara.

and btw, does anyone know why Maxima wearing a different sash? doesn't she suppose to own the order of St. Olav? and where is Spainish Royalty?? also, Jordanian delegations? does anyone know about them??

- it is the own choice of the Princesses to wear a necklace or not. Some find it 'overdressed', some find it more pretty without. There were ladies with grand necklaces anyway, like Princess Mabel of Orange-Nassau (four strand diamond choker with ruby clasp from the Mellerio Parure) or Princess Astrid of Belgium (Savoia-Aosta diamond-and-emeralds necklace)

- Princess Máxima wore the ribband belonging to Dame Grand Cross in the Order of the Netherlands Lion because there have not been official state visits between Norway and the Netherlands since her wedding in 2002. Queen Beatrix visited King Olav in 1986 and King Harald visited Queen Beatrix in 1996. So that was way before Máxima was a Princess

- the Princess of Asturias cancelled her attendance due to the tragic death of her sister miss Érika Ortiz Rocasolano

- I don't know why there were no Jordanese royals. There also were no Thai, Moroccoan and Japanese royals. I think the King has only invited European royals.

there were no word that the Prince and Princess of asturias was supposed to attend even before the tragic death, so there is no cancellation.

There are usually not royals from japan, morocco, thailand and jordan at norwegian events, though I think there were a couple of jordanian royals at Märthas wedding and Märtha is sort of close to Princess Haya, atleast back when she was more active with the horses.

I think it was protocol when Sonja did it. The King is the monarch and the head of the Royal Household so he outranks all other members of the Royal House including the Queen Consort and they show their respect to the Head of the Royal House by curtseying (or bowing if they are men) to the monarch.

It could have been just a nice gesture but normal non-royal people don't curtsey to each other when they start to dance any more. I didn't know the Norwegians were that strict on protocol; but it looked grand and it gave Harald a chance to 'curtsey' back which was quite cute and charming.

No! Queen Sonja "curtseyed" to Ari Behn´s father at the wedding ball of Märtha Louise just before she started to dance with him! And we must all admit he is lightyears away from being a monarch...
I´s more from the old custom, when a man and a woman used to dance together in the old days: The man bows, the lady curtseys.
