All the pictures are wonderful . what a great birthday for the Queen. She looked quite proud and happy of her family.

The picture of her with her 8 grandchildren is precious
Christian is almost as tall as Felix , and they are 3 years apart. Nikolai is now taller than the Queen
Beautiful smiles between Josephine and Isabella.
and this year Vincent has left the climbing to his cousin Athena.

Frederik and Mary looked great, love this picture a natural gesture for them to hold hands, even while concentrating on the crowd below

thank you for bringing the survey Roskilde . No surprises here. Well, Joachim and Henrik have changed places.
But this one and the one recently where over 90% viewed Frederik ready to be a good king, show the great work Frederik and Mary are doing

Apart from PH, the figures are pretty good, - for all of them.
As for J&M there figures are pretty consistent.
That M&F are so high up is hardly news. And that says a lot in itself.

I think it does reflect a general opinion that people believe M&F are ready to take over - in full.
That however is very much contributed to QMII, because she allows M&F to shine.

I agree Muhler, in much part it's Frederik and Mary's initiative and strong work, but it's also helps the great support they receive from the Queen.

Surprised to see Henrik... after the recent announcement I though we would see no more of him !
 
Queen Margrethe looked wonderful on the balcony. She seemed really happy and if Henrik got applause I'm betting it was because he had the decency to show up and not cause his wife public hurt. She looked so majestic as she called the 9 cheers? and listened to the anthem

The family photos were wonderful and it was interesting to see that Henrik, Joachim, Felix and Christian all showed a little sartorial flare with a kerchief in their breast pockets whilst Frederik, and Nicolai went for the less flamboyant look.

The photos of Q Margrethe and her grandchildren werre lovely and it was very sweet the way Nicolai was hovering over his baby sister and making sure her climbing stayed safe.

I am so excited to see them!! I reached at about 10.30am and already there are some people waiting there. Initially we were told to stand within the black line next to King Frederik V statue. So I was very happy that I had the first row position, right next to a Grandma with her granddaughter (I heed your advice!) but then realized it did not matter once the security allowed people to go right up in front at the bottom of balcony - everyone was running for the best position so actually there is no need to be there early. Just need to run fast!! One good thing about arriving early was we saw the Queen arriving in her car - the security was nice to tell us about it. We also saw the staff brought out the 2 Dachshunds for a quick walk. Love that the Queen appeared 4 times in the balcony. There is a Australia tourist next to me and when the Queen and her children appeared together on the same balcony, the tourist shouted "Mary, from Australia" and Mary immediately looked over and waved at us (I got it on video!!). And during the final appearance, the Dachshunds and Princess Marie's Abelle were also on the balcony with them. Also finally the Queen and M&F went in first but J&M stayed on at the balcony for few minutes more. Was wondering how come there's no one cue them to go in but I am not complaining - Marie looks so much better in person than on photo.

I was thinking the same thing, Marg. But I think both Frederik and Nikolai can be excused. ;)
Frederik because he has no less than four children, so any handkerchief he has may soon be pressed into action. :p

I actually saw the balcony appearance live on Norwegian television, but I don't think it was broadcasted in Denmark or was it? Maybe on TV 2 News.

It looks like Isabella and Athena (bottom left, half-hidden by the baluster) were holding hands walking onto the balcony. It's always so lovely to see the cousins interact.

Well, if you like cute pics, you'll enjoy the scans posted below.

QMII was the first to appear on the balcony to a general cheer, that went up a notch when PH joined her on the balcony.
But it was of course the entire family and not least the children that attracted most attention, at least for the photographers.

To the tune of Happy Birthday people on the square sang along. (It's no doubt easier for the tourists as well than the usual Danish birthday song).
Josephine and Athena were waving eagerly! After all, it was nice of all those people to show up and wave at them.
Isabella however is growing up and our reporter noticed that she kept an eye on farmor Margrethe and waved when farmor did.

BTW Josephine was not wearing the bracelet the DRF girls get on their fifth birthday. Bella was however and you can clearly see the difference in the article.

When the show was over, QMII was seen lovingly putting her arm around Christian when they went back in.

Athena was there too, you know. Also busy waving and smiling her head off, but she is still too young to really see over the banister, but then mother Marie took her up in her arms and now she could see.

But there was one more who attracted a lot of attention!
Nikolai!
Our reporter noticed several groups of teenagers chanting "Nikolai. Nikolai", when he appeared.
And close to our reporter she overheard some teenage girls:
"Oooiii, look at him. Just check him out! Who is it"?
"Why, that's Nikolai. Prince Nikolai".
"He's so delicious (hot)". - With the girl now jumping up and down waving her arm off, hoping to attract Nikolai's attention.

Later in the evening the Regent Couple went to the Royal Theater to see the ballet Romeo and Juliet.
PH, naturally, wearing a lilac velvet jacket.
