Queen Margrethe's 75th Birthday Celebrations: April 2015

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
The swedish royal court updated their calendar today. According to it from Sweden are attending:
15th April
King Carl Gustaf, queen Silvia
16th April
King Carl Gustaf, queen Silvia, crown princess Victoria, prince Daniel
Kalender - Sveriges Kungahus [NS4 version]

Maybe they will still be updating the calendar later.

In his speech at the State Banquet the Dutch King just announced that he's looking forward to coming back to Denmark for the birthday next month. So we can add the Dutch king to the guest list.

And add also Queen Máxima. He mentioned the both of them :flowers:

Which is great news and I wonder who else we might see from both the reigning and non reigning houses.

I think the Dutch royal family will be represented by
- The King
- Queen Máxima
- Princess Beatrix

Last night Queen Margrethe spoke warm words about the former Queen. I think the Princess is still so active and full joie de vivre to miss a possibility to be entre nous with the people she knows all her life long.

Princess Beatrix and Princess Benedikte, 50 years ago.

I am so excited which other royals will attend.

I would like to see that exhibition. It will be some eventful days for Margrethe. Before it seems like she and Henrik will keep the Easter holiday at Marselisborg Castle in Aarhus.

I want to see this too; I shall be in Copenhagen in July so I hope it is not too far to travel! BTW I should love travel/sightseeing tips should Danish members wish to share:)

On April 8th there will be held a tv-transmitted gala performance in the Concert Hall on the occasion of Margrethe's 75th birthday. Let's hope they make a good show.

And as many probably had hoped for... So the updated calendar show that Christian and Isabella will participate together with their parents in the gala performance - as we also saw last year with PC Henrik's gala performance. It will still be too late for the little Vincent and Josephine. The calendar also show that Joachim will bring along his two oldest boys as well.

It fits with the family probably will keep a couple of days Easter holiday together at Marselisborg Castle before as the Easter takes place the days before. We have seen the recent years that the Crown Prince Family have spent some Easter days at Marselisbrg with the Regent Couple so it will be a good guess.

How exciting. :flowers:
perfect event to take the kids.
Maybe we'll see a video of Margrethe with the grandkids like Isabella with Henrik

The Regent Couple are expected to be at Marselisborg during Easter as usual. I wonder if we will see the rest of the family as well?
M&F have probably already gone to Trend and I guess they will drop in at Marselisborg on the way back.
It's more of an open question as to whether Joachim and our Marie will make an appearance as well.

Some have speculated that M&F will be around when QMII will be celebrated in Aarhus on the 8th, but personally I doubt it. Christian and Bella will be starting in school again next Tuesday.

Its very easy to travel to Frederiksborg Castle from Copenhagen. There is a direct train to Hillerød, and from there you can almost see the castle.
Please ask me if you need some advise on your trip. :flowers:

The Crown Princely couple as well as Prince Joachim and Princess Marie are all scheduled to attend the reception at Aarhus Rådhus. As Roskilde posted above, that same evening, they will all – including Prince Nikolai, Prince Felix, Prince Christian and Princess Isabella – be present at the Gala show at Musikhuset Aarhus. Also, I could have sworn that I'd read somewhere that the balcony appearance in Aarhus would pretty much mirror the balcony appearance on her actual birthday in Copenhagen – with the family appearing alongside of her. But that could just be wishful thinking from my side. Nevertheless, they will all (possibly minus the littler ones) be in Aarhus on the 8th.

As Betina says, it's painfully easy to reach Hillerød from Copenhagen. To get from Copenhagen Central Station to Hillerød Station, you just need to take the S-train towards Hillerød (which is the final destination, so it's difficult to get lost :D). If you walk past the 7-Eleven and take Gribskovbanen one stop to Slotspavillionen Station, you end up very close to the magnificent baroque garden from which you can walk directly to the castle (and in nice weather, that is a riveting stroll, I must say). You can also walk through the city to the castle but that's a bit trickier if you don't know your way around the city – but I'm sure the locals would be more than happy to guide you along should you get lost. Hillerød is a very charming city and Frederiksborg Castle is one of my own favourite castles – so much so that I visit several times a year, so I'd say you have something to look forward to :flowers:

:previous: Cool!
I expect to be in Aarhus when the Regent Couple go on their ride, I have to take the day off anyway, because I have a meeting to attend in the forenoon. (Sigh! Sometimes you simply despair!) Alas, not in the town hall, otherwise I could perhaps stick around.
Is so I might write a report here.

The train info for getting to Frederiksborg castle is very interesting as the castle is one of the places I intend to see when I visit Denmark some time in the future. Rosenborg is also on my list of places to see. So thanks to all for the info.

Thank you Betina and Archduchess Zeila for your useful information and encouraging replies. I will certainly consult you as I get closer to the departure date; I am already excited:flowers:

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #14, 2015.
Written by Trine Larsen

The two public service networks DR1 and TV2 are two air two portraits of QMII on the occasion of her birthday. And BB's Trine Larsen have apparently seen the shows and writes an article based on that.

QMII speaks about this and that in the interviews and here are a few things she mentioned:

Okay, she's going to 75 but it ain't half bad as that: "I don't feel burdened by the age. That's so remote for me, because there is still so much that's so exciting. Fortunately I can still do a lot of things, even though I can no longer - unfortunately - go to ballet or do cross country on skis. The back really can't cope anymore".

QMII admits that she sometimes use her teeth to open a tube of color when she's painting and the strength in her finger is insufficient.
She also talks about her still sitting on the floor when she's doing paper cuttings and gluing cutouts together, something she "absolutely silly about doing".

QMII is also increasing drawn to the world of arts and she want's to experience and practice even, because she "simply can't help it". (Presumably she also has more time now that M&F, and behind the scenes Frederik, have taken over more and more).
She believes she wouldn't be as happy nor as good a Monarch if it wasn't for her passion in art.

But QMII also realise that the day for the final curtain is getting closer: "Surely no one actually hold hands with death... I certainly don't feel that way. Death is something you partly push away from your mind, partly something you are consious about". That means that she sometimes thinks: "Wonder if I will be around to experience that? Or well, I certainly won't be there for that".

Can you be a human being and a queen at the same time? The answer is given by Joachim who in speech said to his mother: "Can you be both queen and mother at the same time? Yes, if one is YOU".

But QMII admits she wasn't a good a mother as her own mother was to her: "But I'm endlessly fond of those two boys, and they know that very well".

She also talks about that Frederik "must live into" his future role.

There are things she's absolutely not fond of! Going for walks. She explains: "We HAD to go for walks as children... and that good habit kill the pleasure of walking. So I'm not particularly fond of that"

:previous:Always enjoy reading the interviews with the Queen.
She has a very good head on her shoulders.

"She also talks about that Frederik "must live into" his future role."
Not sure i understand this, that he must experience his role?

Thanks Muhler:flowers:

Whilst at one level the interview is very much "in character", the minutiae of her every day life, likes and dislikes can be so interesting to the outsider.

TV2 has just shown the portrait I wrote a summary of above and it was brilliant!
It gave a very good picture of the person Margrethe who also happens very much to be Queen.
A Queen who has a girlish side and a good sense of humor, especially when dealing with people she works with in connection with art projects and that in a formal and yet informal way at the same time.

I haven't got time to go into details, but for those who know about and are interested in QMII this portrait is a must and I hope it will be aired in English at some point.
For those who don't know about QMII this isn't the best start though.

What I like most about such portraits are the behind the scenes footage including the occasional goof and in this case also QMII's quiet banter with the camera crew.

There were a couple of details I noticed: During a visit to Greenland with M&F the Regent Couple left a kaffemik when QMII called PH, "Ups. We didn't bring Mary and Frederik with us". - "What's keeping them"? - "Dunno, ain't my fault".

And during the visit QMII had in Eastern Greenland with Frederik, where they trekked on dog sledges and lived in a small cabin on the ice. (Pit stops used by the Sirius Patrol). Here Frederik nursed a cut to his arm, presumably a dog bite, that happens. Later on Frederik sported some three or four stitches, something neither QMII, nor her LiW, nor Frederik paid much attention.

:previous: You are welcome Polyesco & Muriel. :)

Has the Danish Royal Court announced an updated guest list? I see as per the Swedish Royal Court that the King,Queen,Crown Princess and Prince Daniel of Sweden are attending.

It seems to now be confirmed that the entire family will appear on Aarhus City Hall's balcony (in addition to their regular 16th April appearance on Amalienborg, this year on Christian VIII's Palace's balcony) – kongehuset.dk have updated "The Regent Couple" to "The Regent Couple and the Royal Family": Regentparret og den kongelige familie viser sig på balkonen ud til Rådhuspladsen kl. 12.10 - Kongehuset

Not that I can see. But they are notoriously slow with the updating of anything, really. It actually wouldn't surprise me if they didn't release the guest list till the 15th.

The Swedish Court has announced the attendance on their calendar.

The Norwegian agenda has no events later than the 10th, so we have to wait till they update.

There is nothing on the Dutch agenda on 15th and 16th. Perhaps they consider it a private event and therefore not annouce attendance in advance?

There will be other Royals attending. With two Swedish couples at the event it is unthinkable that they no house Royal House will be represented. But who? The suspense is difficult to bear, I must admit that. Do the Belgians and Luxembourgers have an online agenda? I haven't checked for them. Not sure that someone from Spain will be there. Though it would be nice to see Sofia, isn't she good friends with Margrethe?

I don't expect anyone mayor from the Luxembourg Grand Ducal Family on the 16th as it will be Grand Duke Henri's 60th birthday. Perhaps Prince Guillaume and Princess Sibilla.
