On April 16th, 2010 HM Queen Margrethe will celebrate her 70th birthday.

In honour of the occasion, the Danish Postal Service has issued a new stamp featuring the Queen which will be released in February to replace the current stamp with the Queen's face on it. Information from the postal service website states that, "The new definitive series stamp is being issued to mark the 70th birthday of Queen Margrethe II." The photo used was taken by Casper Sejersen, while the stamp itself with designed by e-Types.

You can view the stamps (there are four, in different colours) by clicking on 'Stamps issued in 2010' at this link.

A new portrait and a logo have also been released. The portrait, found here, was taken by Tina Harden. The logo, which features the birth date and age topped by the royal crown (found here) was designed by Paul Bear in conjunction with Wonderful Copenhagen. The logo and portrait are to be used in shops, cities, etc which are celebrating the Queen's birthday.

Thanks Jess, I quite like how simple the logo is and the red color they have used.
The portrait is also very pretty, its nice they didnt picture her in a tiara and an a gala gown.

Does anyone know how long the Amalienborg and Frederiksborg exhibitions will be open? I'm going to Copenhagen in late July and I'd love to see them!

City gifts Queen generously

Queen Margrethe II turns 70 next month, and the birthday girl is already getting some pretty expensive presents.

Copenhagen City Council has decided to present the regent with a gift of 230,000 kroner in honour of the occasion. An agreement between the palace and the council, however, has already earmarked the funds to renovate the royal reception rooms in the parliament building.

it seems odd to me that they can "ban" demonstrations. that's what demonstrations are all about, things it is difficult to stop. demonstrations entail some sort of "disruption" and if they could stop them (by security measures) you would have thought they would? banning them with words seems odd to me - obviously the more you ban it the more people would like to perform them... does this mean that the security measures will be more restrictive than usual?

otherwise, i'm very happy we will see the dutch royals in denmark. i believe mette marit would not come because of neck problems. let's hope other royal families confirm their attendance!

They may not like the Queen, her position and what she represents; but I think they should at least show some respect on this important occasion.

Queen Margrethe opened an exhibition at the Amalienborg Museum on Thursday April 8. 2010. Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik took the short stroll from the Palais to the Museum on foot across the Amalienborg Palaca Square.

Is there a transcript or video of the press conference anywhere? Thanks. And is she right outside the room where Fred and Mary's wedding ball was held? The floor looks familiar.

The reason they banned them from demonstration was that the feared that pro-royalists would attack them.

Aww...that's a really sweet picture, Anne-fan. There's a video of all that online:
