Just a qualified guess:
I heard something about a commemorative coin on the live coverage. Maybe this is it.. the blue boxes can also be seen on the overall photo of the tables. The gold boxes are probably something special for the head table!

I've always thought they were for condiments. My late grandmother had something similar, though in porcelain.

This is the photo you mean. Unfortunately we can't see what's inside the blue box.

Here is a review of the dresses at the gala Sunday, from BT: De hotte og de kiksede gallakjoler | www.bt.dk

And you get a chance to practise a bit of Danish.

Read the first line in the captions. Right after the name and title is one of two words:
Hot = Pretty selfexplanatory, eh? Or -
"Kikset" = not hot.

See, Danish is easy to understand....

Maybe they'll hold a small dinner with their royal and non-royal friends some time in the summer, when the weather is understandably better. I believe a small dinner is how they celebrated Frederick's 40th birthday (I remember seeing the pictures as the royals walked to the location).

Oh, how interesting, I'd just love to know what was in the blue box, as well as the gold place setting containers on the head table.

What very strange, almost gargoyle like, heads are decorating the lower walls of the dining room!
Do they represent any important historical people in particular?
Does anyone know the history of this art work?

Otherwise, I do love the colours of the flowers for the dinner.

Had abit of a laugh on reading this article by the ever so well informed DM:

Tiaras at dawn: Europe's Royals gather to celebrate Queen of Denmark's 40 years on the throne (and there's a lot of bling on show) | Mail Online

In it, they claim that Princess Mary of Denmark is the second wife of Prince Frederik....

They must have edited the article because it no longer says that. Plus it's easy to Marie and Mary mixed up.
The article does show the lovely display of jewels.

If it┤s the head behind CP Frederik in the photo where he┤s showing the blue box to Queen Sonja, then it┤s heads on the tapestry given to QMII at her 50th birthday.

Quite a few people commented to the Daily Mail about the silly, little error so they must have changed it. So much for the editor doing a proper job.

Yes, they changed it. In the version I read it said after the pics that Mary is the "second" wife, they removed the "second" in the meantime.

The DM and the Brits in general have no clue about other royals than their own therefore I am not surprised about the blunder.

The only reason the event got into the DM are the nice dresses and the bling.
