Yesterday afternoon, April 28, Queen Margrethe handed out the Rungstedlund Award during a ceremony in Rungsted. The prize is annually awarded to a person who has made a notable contribution in an area which interested Karen Blixen.

And that is very deserved indeed!

He has written the probably best and most well researched account of the two Schleswigan War, that have been so decisive for the Danish national character.
While I don't agree wholeheartedly with everything he concludes, he is certainly worth reading!
He has taken an opposite view or rather conclusion of the causes for the two wars, to what was considered a fact until very recently.
I.e. that good ol' DK was betrayed by the unbending Schleswig Holstein people and attacked by the aggressive Preussians. - That is of course to some extent true, but if we are to be truthful the disaster of the Second Schleswigan Was was just, if not more, the result of Danish nationalist and inexperienced politicians and an almost fanatical press.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that QMII has read his books and that the two of them easily could talk about this subject for several hours!

Here is a nice video from BB: VIDEO: Prinsgemalen kidnappede treårig | Billed Bladet

While PH was doing his job at Esrum Lake (The lake is right next to Fredensborg Palace) a almost three year old boy named Rasmus was admiring the royal golf-car. Now, according to Rasmus' dad the boy is crazy about cars, so today was his lucky day!
When PH returned he spotted the fascinated boy and asked he wanted to go for a ride. Yeah, okay.
So sitting on the lap of the adjutant and helping PH steering with one hand on the wheel, the trio went for a cruise. Upon returning PH put his hat on, well, over, Rasmus head and told the how big a help he was in steering.

And what a great photo/public relations opportunity for Prince Henrik and the DRF! Well done!:flowers:

Great to see henrik back in action.
I think last year, Frederik, Christian and Isabella joined him, or maybe it was a different event.

:previous: It is Gerry & Polyesco.
Whatever we may say or think or suspect about PH we cannot deny that he is fond of children and that he has a way with children.
He did attend this annual event at Esrum Lake last year with Bella and Christian and it was on that occasion he ate half of Christian's hotdog.

Haha  This is her PET's probably happy about - she is always more than easy to spot!

Due to Thursday being a holiday, BB has hit the streets today. So let's go straight to this weeks top story.

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #20, 2015.
Written by Trine Larsen.

The dachshund, Rosina, has been deported and she is no longer a Rigshund (*). Instead PH had another dog, Tillia, who is of the same breed as QMII beloved Helike - and virtually indentical. Tillia is eight months old while Helike is nine years old.
It seems like Rosina and PH were a less than compatible match, so after a couple of years it was decided to ship her ff to France.
PH explains: "Yes, it's true that I have a new dog. She is very, very sweet and is named Tilllia".
But what about Rosina?
PH: "Oh dear, there is nothing wrong with her. She lives in France with some relatives and she is fine".

BB has consulted the dog-therapist, Henrik Ljungstrøm, who have also dealt with the Regent Couple's dogs beforehand.
"There wasn't anything wrong with Rosina, she and the Prince Consort simply wasn't the right match. Dogs are different and must suit both the owner and the surroundings they have to live in".

So driving cars, sailing and hunting wasn't her cup of tea?
HL: "Let me put it like this that if a dog don't like that or (like) to associate a lot of people then the DRF isn't the right place to live. And then it's common sense for both parts to find another solution and make the right choice, so that both the dog and it's owner are pleased".

He does praise the QMII-dog, Helike: "That's a world-class dog. Really fantastic. Helike isn't for anyone and (she) is very attached to the Queen, so that's a really good match".

Henrik Ljungstrøm has not personally dealt with Tillia: "But I have been asked for advise and I have offered suggestions and guidance, so I hope it's right for all parties".

(*) Dog of the Realm, the loving term for the DRF dogs. Equivalent to the US First Dog. Here seen walking President Obama BTW: http://www.blogcdn.com/www.pawnation.com/media/2010/06/bo-obama-590ds060910.jpg :p

Not sure where to place this.

Now for something more amusing.
Each summer there are a number of theatrical revues here in DK. They go from very professional to amateurs and common for all of them is that they take a loving satirical view of what has happened in the tribe the past year. Politicians and the DRF naturally being a favorite topic.

This year the very experienced actor Ulf Pilgaard who usually impersonate QMII, and do it in a way that is almost spooky in likeness, will impersonate PH instead - he has after all provided ample material for the script writers...
Don't know about you, but IMO Ulf Pilgaard has pulled it off big time!
https://app.box.com/s/uo3924nhkey1v6cb6utckkhw5eia4bx0
Here's the real one: https://app.box.com/s/4xmcn92dkrv7utsnl8cgx5avdh6zsvzs

Actually Ulf Pilgaard has been knighted by QMII and danced with her upon request and this is what he has to say about PH: "We had to have a parody on Prince Henrik and it does have some edges. That is after all a tradition here at home that when someone stick out their scent-horn. But it's done with love. You have to keep in mind that the DRF are the only ones here at home who really can't defend themselves.
The Prince Consort is indeed big enough to take it. He is not meek but a great personality.
I have made parodies of him before and I have read his book Destiny Oblige. That's a very well written book and people tend to forget what background he really has. That his father founded a paper in Hanoi and that he taught himself Mandarine and Chinese (IRRC Mandarine is also Chinese). He is a bel esprit, dammit and far more intelligent than he is often portrayed. The Prince Consort is a man who does what he himself wants to do and that I kinda like him for. Something as unique as an anarchist prince".

^^^^^^ hahaha, they could be twins (and i bet P.Henrik *would* wear that outfit ;) )
All innocent fun ofcourse and i'm sure QM and PH have a good laugh about it at home

that is spot on. lol
I do like his quote on Henrik.

Thanks Ilse & Iceflower. :flowers:

As you may know PH and a number of his friends went hunting a few days ago on the island of Bornholm.
While there a local woman studying to be a nurse hitchhiked as she use to to get to her school.
A car with a number of gentlemen dressed in hunting attire pulled over and she jumped in on the passenger seat. Looking around she thought she recognized some of the gentleman and sure enough there was PH at the wheel.

PH is getting a lot of positive coverage in BB these weeks! - Well, that's what friends are for, eh? And the cynic within me suspects an exclusive interview coming up around PH's birthday in return.

Summary of several articles in Billed Bladet #21, 2015.

On 14th May, Ascension of Christ, PH took QMII and their friends, Birgitta and Keld Hillingsø, to the Tivoli Concert Hall to see the show with Ørkenens Sønner = Sons of the Desert (*). PH has seen them before, completely cracking up.
Very appropriately, or perhaps not, the title of the show is One more time for Prince Knud. Referring to a popular belief back around 1950 that the then heir to the throne Prince Knud was a bit slow... So that expression has remained an idiom since.
Niels Olsen, a member of the group and immensely popular here in DK, said afterwards: "They were at least so kind to pretend" (to like the show) He goes on to tell that people actually spontaneous rose and applauded the Regent Couple as they entered. (**) "That sort of give the whole thing a fresh spark and such a mood can be felt all the way up to the stage, so we nailed it to the floor". Niles Olsen also believe that QMII could handle the show: "We are not that naughty and bad... I think".
During the intermission the Regent Couple went backstage to greet the quartet: "That was a really fine experience, but we did only get water, because we had to go down to the second part of the show right after. But it was really cozy and very, very delightful that they came. And we are of course wildly honored".

But PH has also been on the job, sort of, lately. Recently he went to Funen to inaugurate an education center run by a good friend of his, Claudia Sehested Juul and her daughter. What are friends for, right? :p
As Sehested belongs to the distinguished Danish families (Sehested was a general during the Schleswigan Wars) the event attracted other members of the nobillity and others within the circle around the Regent Couple, like the Ahelefeldt Lauervig's.

He has also been hunting on Bornholm with some of the "old boys". But perhaps they had enjoyed a night cap too many, because they arrived a little late (the sun goes up at 04.50 at this time of year) so the deers had long since done their morning routine and only one deer was shot. That didn't spoil the mood though and the male banter continued.
The reporter from BB, Trine Larsen, had her birthday at that time, so she was congratulated and presented with a signed book by PH with his poems.
In fact PH went to a local church, Øster (East) Marie Church, where he read aloud from his poems. (***)

Judging from comments and from what I hear on the streets it seems to me that PH has been largely forgiven for his untimely flu during QMII's birthday. The sentiment being something like: grandpa has misbehaved again... Oh well, at least the old guy ain't dull.

(*) Ørkenens Sønner is a quartet of friends who some twenty years ago got together to make a show simply for the fun of it. Being very accomplished actors in their own right already back then, it meant that they can actually sing and act. In fact their entire show is one big innuendo. - And that proves that while PH speaks "circus Danish" his understanding of Danish is perfect, otherwise he would miss half of what goes on during the show.
It is unfortunately not possible for me to translate some of their word plays and at the same time do them justice.
Here is a video with three of them at calisthenics. Watch it if you think you can handle all that testosterone... You need not understand a word of Danish. Those among you who watch Danish Tv-shows may recognize Søren Pilmark:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMbJQh3GUB8

(**) A clear indication that the DRF is popular. Because a common thing would be to allow the Regent Couple to be left alone as they were there as private persons.
Those who go see Ørkenens Sønner are a very wide segment of the population from the unemployed blue collar worker to the highly paid attorney.

(***) The churches on Bornholm are unique in Denmark and I believe in the Baltic region. They are round. I don't know why and I'm not sure whether such churches exist outside Bornholm in the Baltic. (Perhaps FasterB can help?)
Here are a couple of pics of round churches:

I cannot help posting this here, even though it may be somewhat off topic, but this is partly very fascinating but also something I positively know QMII has read with burning interest!

The papers have today written about a scientific examination of one of the most well known Bronze Age corpses ever to have been found here in DK. (And we have quite a few of them I might add!)

The Egtved Girl as she is known.

Map:
http://videnskab.dk/sites/all/files...s/skaermbillede_2015-05-20_kl._23.40.29_0.png
She was found in 1921 inside a burial mound in Southern Jutland. Laid to rest inside a oak tree coffin, she must have belonged to the upper class of society back then. There is nothing left of her but bones - and her hair and clothes!
Living around 3.400 years ago that has provided an almost unique insight into female attire. And this what she wore:
http://videnskab.dk/sites/all/files/imagecache/300x/article_images/egtvedpigen_01.jpg
She was only sixteen-eighteen years old when she died. At her feet lay the remains of small child, some six years old. A close relative, but it is not clear whether the child is her own or a sibling.

But now we come to the most interesting bit: The last 23 months of her life has now been mapped based on her hair. And her origin has been determined based on her teeth.
Even though she was blond and looked archetypical Nordic,(*) she is not. She was born in the area of Scwartzwald some 800 KM to the south. (see map)
Not only that but during the last 23 months of her life, she went to Schwartzwald and back! That's pretty impressive, especially considering that it was over land and not by sea.
Even though they most likely followed the rivers most of the time it's still some journey! (3.400 years ago central Europe was densely forested and with few if any real tracks for longer distances on foot). At some point during that journey she was on the brink of starvation.
A theory is that she was married to a local chieftain in Denmark to cement trade relations between the Danish tribe and the people the Egtved Girl belonged to and that she physically must have confirmed that relation by going on these trips several times in her short life. Somewhat unusual you should think for a woman, because such a trip is not without danger, especially if she happened to be pregnant.

There are other examples of people who have moved far around that time. Like Ötzi or the Archer found near Stonehenge, but they were men, who may have had specialist talents. And as men they would not necessarily have had to worry about being pregnant or having an infant in the arms, so they could afford to be mobile. But now it seems women were just as mobile.

Read more in Danish here: Sensationel afsløring: Egtvedpigen er ikke dansk | Videnskab.dk

(*) Archetypical Nordic in the sense of being blonde with fair skin. Interestingly her neighbors here in the north would only have been Nordic looking for some 3.000 years prior to her death. Until around 6.000 years ago when agriculture became the norm here in the north, the typical skincolor would have been various shades of brown. That changed due to the change in diet so that people lacked IIRC vitamin D, which they now had to absorb through the skin, hence a fairer skin color.

Does he need money ?

He is?

I didn't know. But I don't think he is in serious need of money though.

Muhler thank you as always for the translations and the extra information you always include.

Henrik is lucky that he is older and pretty much at the age, you are left alone and "forgiven" for any mishaps.

I think he being a loving grandpa has helped his image alot

"One more time for Prince Knud" LOL!

Well, not only because he was a bit slow, but... Prince Knud and Princess Caroline-Mathilde went to see a ballet, where in there was a nudity/somewhat nudity scene. When the director of the theatre after the ballet asked if the Prince Couple was satisfied with the play Pss Caroline-Mathilde answered that they couldn´t see it all from the royal box. So the Director insisted the ballet danced the nudity scene for only for the Prince Couple. The year after this episode was a big part of the "Cirkusrevy" where the actress Birgitte Reimer sang: "Så tager vi den en gang til for Prins Knud" :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Hmm, nope, sorry, not this time :eek::eek: I actually don´t know the answer to this :ermm::ermm::ermm:
