The french did try to post another guy to replace Mohamed V but that led to popular upheavel and "resistance" tried to kill the newly imposed king. They might have tried to put some other guy in the north, I am not sure about that. But for sure nobdoy recognized him as a King. Ah one more thing, Moroccan kings used to have the title of Sultan, not Caliph. It was after independence that they changed their title to King ( Malik or Malek). |

Thanks all for posting interesting information. I found a site which mentions again Caliphe in Tetouan.
Kingdom of Morocco's (Alaoui dynasty) according to the "Almanach.Be" web site. SHORT HISTORY: The present Alaoui dynasty took power over the ruins of the previous Saadi dynasty, in the mid 17th century. Both dynasties claimed descent from the Prophet Muhammad, through the line of Ali and Fatima (the Prophet’s daughter). This Sharifian (see below, Glossary) descent provided the Alaouis with a powerful tool of legitimacy, so that they were able to survive both colonial rule and independance. A French protectorate was imposed on Morocco by the Treaty of Fès on 30/3/1912 and the country was then divided administratively with the Spanish government under the Treaty of Madrid on 27/11/1912. While most of the country was under French rule from Rabat, the Spanish zone of protectorate was ruled from Tetouan in the north and consisted of an area running along the Mediterranean coast and an area of desert in the far south of the country. The Sultan was represented by a Caliphe in Tetouan during this period. At the same time, the port city of Tangier was ruled as an international city, although once again the Sultan’s sovereignty was recognised. During the period of nationalism leading up to independance, the French authorities deposed Sultan Mohammed V, and replaced him with an aged relative, Sidi Mohammed bin Arafa, in 1953. The legitimate Sultan was restored in late 1955 and, as King Mohammed V led Morocco to independance from France on 2/3/1956, and from Spain on 7/7/1956. Tangier returned to Moroccan rule on 29/10/1956. From http://www.usa-morocco.org/alaoui.htm |

A lot of very rich people, have an unlimited self-confidence that don’t come to their personal abilities, but rather to money and to power that their family detains Prince rachid comes from a family who detains an absolute power in its country, it is also an immensely rich family (several hundreds of millions of dollars, if it is not more) Then, is his self-confidence (that he seems to have) comes of his personal capacities or of his family's prestige? Personally, I think that his family's prestige has a big role in the fact that he seems as confidence, if one day he lost this prestige, I think that he would lose a lot of this self-confidence |

Personally, I love to hear about a prince being very successful man, known worldwide and bring a lot to his country/people. To me this shows real success and self-confidence. However belonging to a royal family, can’t be called real self-confidence, since this is part of the prestige installed around the family … as it is the case for other royal families.
