![]() Haya showing up is just like Haya showing up at any other event. If she didnt attened last year doesnt mean there would be a reason for attending this year. If its to prove to western media, she has proved more then enough over the years standing along with her husband, Sheikh Mohammed. She wasnt given a visa for political reasons which most of the Gulf countries have the same reason which the forum doesnt allow us to go into politics. Just to clear something up, UAE's arent raciest in any way. FYI, the UAE isnt just made up of white's but also dark people who just have equall rights as anyone else. Oh please. She's just presented the trophy to Venus Williams. This happens at tennis tournaments, believe it or not, and it's hardly a propaganda coup.

Oh please, Haya has never shown the least interest in tennis or anything other then horse-racing.

No but that is no different from many other royals who are not really interested in the events they are attending. It's their job. Haya does what she's told to do by her husband, as simple as that. It's an international tournament so it's handy to send the international wife for the trophy presentation who is a woman what certainly attracts a wider publicity than one of Mo's sons would at a women tennis tournament. Besides, I doubt Haya has a deeper interest in the zillions of other things that are on her agenda, apart from anything that has to do with horses, of course.

Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, stands next to Venus Williams of USA holding a trophy after winning the match against Virgine Razzano of France during their final match at WTA Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships 2009 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on 21 February 2009. Williams won 6-4,6-2.

gosh!!!! until i saw the full body pic i honestly thought that venus stood on a podium!!! ok venus is kind of a tank but haya must be incredibly tiny and it shows when she's not around her husband or the arab community (who are usually rather tiny in comparison).

While we all agree to disagree here, the way you wrote your last sentence implies that it was a deliberate decision to put in "a black, American girl" just so they can have something for show. And that's a disgrace to the efforts Venus made to win the tournament.

Anything with a hint of racism is always a touchy subject. Venus is a worldclass athlete and that would have been a less racist way of portraying her.

It has been mentioned in a few posts that Haya is being more active and that this is good. Haya may be being more active because of the "problems" Dubai and Sheikh Mohammed are facing. I would be more active if I was Haya.

Mo is a supporting lifeline for Jordan in terms of money. If he sneezes, King Abdullah will get a cold, so to say. Haya can only do very little but she's not only the ruler's wife but also a Princess from Jordan, so not only one but two reasons to do some promotion.

Yes Xavi83, I meant economic problems. The Duke Of Marmalade's post sums this up well from the Jordan side. I would only add that there are likely to be pressures within Emirati society on all Dubai royals and Haya does not have family links, apart from via marriage. Again, more reasons to be active.

I wonder who will award winners of Men's Open? I suppose Haya can't make it again..Or not? Is it some kind of unwritten rule that woman awards woman and man award man? Or it isn't important at all?

If im not miastaken the past year it was one of Sheikh Mohammeds son, Maktoum or Ahmed who awarded the men. Im not too sure how it works, women award women thing etc.
