The Royal Family attended a memorial event for the victims of last
year's Queen's Day, Apeldoorn, April 29, 2010.
Queen Beatrix unveiled a monument which is a sculpture of a box
full of balloons symbolizing vulnerability, festivities and mourning.
A very emotional ceremony..

Queen Beatrix, Princess Margriet and Pieter van Vollenhoven attended
the commemoration service at the Canadian militairy cemetary in
Groesbeek, May 3, 2010. It's been a special ceremony to honour
Canadians who fought and died to liberate the Netherlands 65 years
ago.

Nice photos! Thanks for posting, Iceflower! It's good to see them looking so relaxed. Sometimes PM Harper seems a bit stiff in his photos, but not so in these pics. Gotta love the boyish grin!

Today, May 21, Princess Maxima presented the Appeltje van Oranje
at the Palace Noordeind in Den Haag. It's an annual award for
exceptional, innovative and successful projects in the social field.
Queen Beatrix and Crown Prince Willem-Alexander attended as well.

The apples of Orange is a an award that is handed out by the Orange fund. The Orange fund is a merger of various royal charities, among them the fund that the prince of Orange and princess Maxima received as a wedding present.
Nte that the Queen makes the awards (bronze aples) herself. Sculpting has been a hobby of her for decades.
Maxima's outfit is indeed terrible, but what else is new? Sigh.

of the Four Freedom Awards in the Nieuwe Kerk in Middelburg, May 29,
2010. The awards were presented to the European Court of Human
Rights, the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta, Dr. Asma Jahangir from
Pakistan, Maurice Strong from Canada and Gareth Evans from Australia.
