Apparently HM herself (!) wrote the preface of this book. She writes that International problems can be better dealt with if the EU will use their joint forces. She also thinks that speaking about the EU secretely only will give people the impression that they don´t have anything to say about the EU, which according to her is not true at all.

Well, that's really good to hear (and here I am, blablaing about ugly belts, silly me). Thanks for the information, Marengo. It's good to see that HM is so well informed. Needless to say: I totally agree with her...

Well, apart from being good informed this is a cause close to her heart, it is no secret that HM is strongly in favour of a more united European Union (with all memberstates keeping their own identity, as one should add). She even received the Karls preis for this and she held many speeches on the matter, much more than any of her collegues and usually more passionate too. I suppose it isn´t a coinsidence that Prince Constantijn worked for the EU too, as did his cousin Jaime.

-- thank you for pictures today at Noordeinde Palace. Princess Maxima hair darker and I loved it. Went really well with her skin and actually makes her look very sophisticated. Hope that she keeps it like that as more natural looking. Or, maybe it was just the lighting at the Palace that gave this appearance of the darker hair.

The Praemium Erasmianum as it is named, was instituted by the late Prince Bernhard as an award to those who rendered extraordinary services to Europe and European Culture more specifically.
HRH The Prince of Orange is Patron since his grandfather passed away, hence it is him that hands out the Prize, not HM.

Here the website of the Erasmus prize, or the ´Praemium Erasmianum´, as it is more impressively called.
According to the website:
Quote:
The Erasmus Prize is awarded to a person or institution which has made an exceptionally important contribution to culture in Europe.
Emphasising the importance of tolerance, cultural multiformity and undogmatic critical thinking, the Foundation endeavours to express these values in the choice of the Erasmus laureates.
|
And about the winner of 2007:
Quote:
The Board of the Praemium Erasmianum Foundation has decided to award the Erasmus Prize 2007 to the Hungarian filmmaker and media artist Péter Forgács.
The Erasmus Prize is awarded annually to a person who has made an exceptionally important contribution to European culture, society or social science. The amount of the Prize is € 150.000. The presentation of the Prize will take place in the autumn of 2007

As posted by Joris on the Benelux Royals MB:
Quote:
Magazine HP De Tijd (not particularly known for a preference for the monarchy) composed a list of 100 Most Influential Dutchmen (5 categories, 20 persons per category). Remarkable I find the number of four Dutch royals in a list of 100! (number of inhabitants of NL: 16 391 604 (Sep. 2007)).
The named royals are:
Leaders & Debate-inspirators:
* Queen Beatrix ("The mighty protectress")
* Princess Máxima ("The most useful member of the Oranges")
Pioneers & Heroes:
* Pieter van Vollenhoven ("Feared watchdog")
* Irene van Lippe-Biesterfeld ("Monument for nature")
No royals however in the other 3 categories: Scientists & Thinkers, Artists & Performers,
Captains of industry & Tycoons
Princess Mabel is not mentioned for a change. Perhaps HP doesn't find her influential seen in a purely national context.

Thanks Marengo to update that list. It's very good to see Princess Irene to be named in there, i think she has done alot for the society in regarding about nature, and it should be recognised.

She is an original One with a bad hair day though. That looks really messy. But in the end it doesn't really matter since Maxima is Maxima

Does anybody know who received the Prince Claus award? Nice to see them all there btw, Laurentien looks very good IMO ('vlot'). And though I am not a great fan of Mabels dress she looks good too, not as pale as usual and not the dark lipstick either!
And Maxima...I wonder, what is the problem with a nice pearl necklace instead of all these weird creations? This is one nice picture btw.

Ohh lovely pictures, especially the ones of Maxima greeting the Queen & Mabel. Mabels outfit too short for my taste, Maxima looked nice, has she gotten lighter highlights put in but left roots untouched???
