Prinsjesdag 2013-2022

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
In a previous post, there is a photo of a yellow/gold standard (flag). I noticed in Prince Claus' funeral as well as others, the family will stop and bow toward this flag. What is it and what does it represent that the family would bow or respond that way? Does anyone know?

It is Orange and the Banner of the respective regiment or other parts of the Forces on duty that specific day.It is tradition to salute the Banner.Always.

Same you see with either incoming or outgoing State Visits, what follows first after arrival is the inspection of the Guards of Honour, and both the incoming as well as the hosting head of State will Always bow for the Banner of the Honorary Guards.

Is there a clip of all shouting Hurrah..Hurrah..Hurrah?
I have seen a few clips on Youtube but didnt find that part in anyone of them..

Was HH Prince Maurits Van Orange Nassau Van Vollenhoven in attendance in his new role as Adjutant to the King? I did not see him in any of the videos but had thought it would be a natural event for him to attend in his new role.

No, it is a new gown by Valentino.

Thank you. In the light it looked like one that she's worn in the past. I like it along with Laurentian's purple ensemble.

I love my Max and I love my Max in red ... but, somehow it just seems too much. Perhaps she could have done without the red gloves and red shoes?

Its always a treat to see the Golden Carriage being used on Prinsjesdag, the Dutch Monarchy does pomp rather well.

I agree. Some pictures of the overlooked part as today is focussed on the King and Queen: the surrounding ceremonial:

The ceremonial procession must a visual feast for all avid Dutch Royal watchers, after the British State Opening Prinsjesdag is my favourite .I also really like the Ridderzaal building and its rich history.

:previous: Oh, I would say they run neck and neck. The pagentry is magical and gives the country a reminder of who their royal family is and how it affects their democracy.

(It's also not bad for the tourism trade!)

Its just incredible the organization! so majestic and perfect! wow I can imagine all the people that works for this day to make such an incredible and exciting day ! Congratulations to all the Ducth!

For me personally, both events are neck and neck in terms of being visual feasts! I think the Dutch seems to have more pomp and pageantry visible outside including the Golden Coach and live reporting of the Dutch Royal Family leaving Nordeinde etc, whilst the British have more inside, with the Crown, regalia, robes and processions inside the houses of parliament.

It was again nice to hear the King's fanfare as he entered the Ridderzaal!

i wonder if mabel will ever be present in this kind of event in the future....

how come the ladies are wearing their sashes, but not the gentlemen?

Traditionally only members of the Royal House, from the age of 18, do attend Prinsjesdag.

At present there are only a handful members of the Royal House being 18 years and older:

HM The King
HM Queen Máxima
HRH Prince Constantijn
HRH Princess Laurentien
HRH Princess Beatrix *
HRH Princess Margriet*
Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven LL.M.*

* Princess Beatrix has abdicated the kingship and together with her also her sister and brother-in-law have slowed down their public agendas.

The dresscode was jacquet (civil) or grand military tenue. The King and his brother were in civil wear, in jacquet (= morning dress). In combination with that grand decorations are never worn. In their lapels, the King and the Prince wore miniature versions of their orders, a so called bâton. When Queen Máxima and Princess Laurentien were in normal day-dress, they would have worn these bâtons too. But they were in long day dress and then the grand decorations can be worn.

On the picture below you see an Order (Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau). Such an Order is effectifely only worn on a military tenue or when attending a white tie event. Besides it, you see a bâton, a miniature. That can be worn in the lapels or on a neat dress when attending more formal events: http://www.eindhoven.nl/upload_mm/4/7/0/52867_fullimage_ko.jpg

In this picture you can see the bâtons in the lapels of both the King and the Prince: http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/King+Willem+Alexander+King+Willem+Alexander+jZN1VHN8T6qx.jpg

In 2012 the (then) Prince of Orange appeared in military tenue, then grand decorations can be worn. It gives a more complete image indeed: http://www.haagsefotos.nl/html/prinsjesdag/prinsjesdag2012/images/prinsjesdag-2012-113.jpg

Apparently they are expecting horrible weather tomorrow.

As usual the budget was already leaked a few days ago. So the king will not be telling anything new.

It is the last time we will see the Golden State Carriage as the carriage will be restored the next 3-4years. I wonder if there will be protestors as recently the carriage became a topic for discussion as one of the panels depicts the Dutch virgin being handed riches from coloured figures, embodying 'the colonies'. Depending how fierce the discussionw ill get the next years, the carriage may be retired to a museum for good.

The glass carriage is IMHO much more elegant. Queen WIlhelmina disliked the pompous golden carriage but still alternated each year between the golden- and the glass carriage.

Oh what a pity,I can't recall seeing a wet Prinsjesdag of late (though I'm sure there have been plenty).

Not fun for the ladies who will be dealing with long skirts and wet weather.

There is the urban legend of the 'oranjezonnetje' (little orange sun); quite often when bad weather is predicted some rays of sun appear when the RF steps outside. So let's hope for that ;).

The cavalry rehearsing at the beach of Scheveningen:

No matter how bad the weather will be: the golden carriage can and will be used:
