The glass coach for the king, the gala glass berline for prince Constantijn. The latter coach was changed for the wedding of Princess Margriet and Pieter van Vollenhoven, more glass was added so the royals would be more visible. In the 50-ties and early 60-ties the princesses often used an open carriage.

They showed the golden carriage at the beginning of the broadcast: it seems to have been dismantled. It will take a few years for the restauration to be completed.

Last year it seemed (to me) that the king and queen almost hit the ceiling of the glass carriage, but this year the proportions seems to be less off. Maybe they lowered the bench.

For some reason Princess Margriet prefers to skip the event all together. I do not think she appeared at the cabinet since 2013. Princess Christina often accompanied her mother Princess Juliana during Prinsjesdag, until she moved abroad again.

The reporter noted that in only 5 years Princess Amalia will start to accompany her parents.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima use the Glass Coach for the third consecutive time on Prinsjesdag on 18 September to drive to and from the Ridderzaal. The Golden Coach it is not available due to a thorough and long-term restoration.

The longer the golden coach stays in repair the better. I am sure it will become the focus point of protests when it will start being used again.

The carriage ride and the speech from the throne can be followed live on NPO1. The broadcast will start at 12:25 GMT+1:
https://www.npostart.nl/live/npo-1

The liveblog of the NPO has a clip about the golden carriage. The German goldsmith explains that gold is cleaned with a mix of water and ... beer. A lady in charge of the restauration of the textile says that it is inevitable that the carriage will be retired to a museum on the long run, as textile is a fleeting material that gets damaged every time the carriage is used.
https://nos.nl/liveblog/2250924-prin...-kapsalon.html

In 2020 the extensive renovation of the Inner court will start. Apparently the Hall of Knights will also be renovated and the speech will need to be held at another location. The renovation is planned to take 5 1/2 years. I thought the Hall was restored not too long ago, but apparently there is more that needs to be done.

I wonder what other location wil be used. Perhaps one of the churches of The Hague? The gothic hall of Kneuterdijk palace would be ideal, but it must be far too small. I can't think what other places are large & historic enough.

De Great (or Saint James') Church in The Hague will be used as an alternative, I thought. It is no longer used as a religous building.

Thanks Duc. It is indeed used for events. Back in the days I worked there during a fashion week sponsored by Mercedes Benz, which seemed like sacrilege but well... Lots of churches are even used for parties, so people are literally dancing on graves.

Each morning of Prinsjesdag there is a service by several religious and humanist organizations. Also this morning:

I hope the day will go well. The State has a Budget surplus, all eonomic indicaticators are on green and the weather is very sunny. Nothing to prevent a happy Prinsjesdag.

But there is controverse around the royal hunt on the Crown Domains and possibly animal right activists will protest against the King using his centuries old royal privilège to hunt on the Crown Domains.

Perhaps we can expect Marianne Thieme (Party for the Animals) with of her 'creative' hats this year focussed on the royal hunt.

Unsurprisingly the PvdD is not familiar under which conditions the estate was handed over to the state by Princess Wilhelmina in 1959. The court speaks of fauna management instead of hunt these days.
--

Apparently the "radical republican" who threw a tealight holder onto the golden carriage in 2010 has gone missing from the TBS clinic in Utrecht where he is being treated. The police has done several house searches but they are unable to find him. The police in The Hague is extra alert.

Wonderful indeed. It seems they are sitting between the camera's on the courtyard of the palace. The lady next to Mrs. Zorreguieta is Pien van Karnebeek, lady-in-waiting of the queen. Mrs. Zorreguieta is wearing an old Prada dress of her daughter (per modekoninginmaxima) They did not join Pss Beatrix, who is again in the Cabinet of the King on the Korte Vijverberg.

The glass carriage is pulled by 8 Frisian horses, one of which is called 'Wodka'.

The queen is wearing a big hat. Her hair seems to be a mess, perhaps due to the strong wind. The draped mousseline dress seems to have different pastel colours. The sleeves have the same colour as the upholstery of the carriage. She is wearing her modern earrings her diamond bow brooch. Pss Laurentien is wearing aquamarine earrings and the crescent brooch. Prince Constantijn now has a beard.

Grand masters of the courts of Spain, Belgium, Britain, Denmark, Norway and Sweden are in the Hall of Knights to get an impression how the opening of parlament is arranged here.

The King's diction of the speech was good & much improved.

Well the news is that for the fourth year in a row there is a Budget Surplus, that the National Debt is under 50% of the GNP, that the unemployment reaches record lows, that the taxes go down and that the Netherlands remain a beacon of solvability, prudence and concord in an ever more engaging world.

Love Maxima's hat and the "idea" behind the hair. Unfortunately, those sleeves derail any chance for the dress being a success.

As for Laurentien, it looks as if she borrowed a gown from Beatrix's closet.

I think on the balcony the King and Queen should be positioned right in the middle with Constantijn next to Maxima and Laurentien next to the King!

We've heard before that there are meetings between the different courts but I've never seen it actually happen. Fingers crossed the Swedish Grand Marshall manages to make the Swedish Opening of Parliament a bit more exciting (although I doubt that the court has much influence in that matter)
