There is the urban legend of the 'oranjezonnetje' (little orange sun); quite often when bad weather is predicted some rays of sun appear when the RF steps outside. So let's hope for that .

No matter how bad the weather will be: the golden carriage can and will be used:

It can be followed live here:

NPO 1 - Live tv

HM's handpainted dress is made of organza silk. The pattern is based on the design of the Japanese room in Palace Huis ten Bosch and is embelished with beads. The designer is Jan Taminiau.

Laurentien's dress is from Hardies couture in The Hague, with Missoni fabrics. Her hat is made by Eudia.

A clip of Princess Beatrix waving at her son and daughter-in-law.

Behind Beatrix is Martine van Loon-Labouchere, former grand mistress of the court.

A picture report from the NRC:

It seems that the king and queen arrived at the Hall of Knights in the pouring rain.

The King is expected to visit the UN soon. He will be the first Dutch monarch who will adress the assembly.

Hats, hats, hats:

It seems that Marianne Thieme is using her outfit to protest against TTIP, the trade agreement with the Us which will force us to import chloride chickens and other poisoned foods. The outfit of the minister of education was a 'high tech outfit' designed by the University of Eindhoven. Her shoes come from a 3D printer.

But she's ditched the formal hat! What a shame. The event just lost some of it's inimitable shine.

Queen Maxima looked great. Jan Taminiau makes amazing gowns for her. The dress is exquisitely feminine.

She wears same hair decoration at the back of her hairdo. She has done the same also in previouis years. I find it more a pity that the King can not wear his Uniform anymore like he did as Prince of Orange.

He can wear his uniform, no one stops him. The King seems to have made a deliberate distinction in civil and military events. This one, an address to the Parliament, of course is purely civil.

She was there, with members of her old Household, at the steps of the former palace of Prince Maurits of Nassau-Siegen, the Mauritshuis, see picture and another picture.

Only strange that as Prince of Orange he wore his Uniform also to this civil Event. And it looks strange with the Queen wearing her Order sash but not the King as Head of State.

I agree but he is there as member of the Government and most likely he wants to stress that constitutional aspect. An uniform adds colour and decorum, I agree: see picture.

Is the King of the Netherlands not Head of the Armed Forces vis a vis the Queen of the United Kingdom et al, the King of Spain and the King of Norway? I can't think of any other reason why we never seem to see the Willem-Alexander in uniform anymore.
