Princess Irene of The Netherlands, Current Events Part 1 (July 2003 - )

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Princess Irene has been interviewed by the programme 'Het Gesprek', the programme will be aired tonight on this hannel. She urges cooperations to put the money where their mouth is and to invest in 'green' stuff.

She says she was happy with the CEO's that signed a petition last year for the use of green energy and things, but she emphasized that they were doing so on a personal basis, and not as a CEO, so the investments from companies are staying behind.

You can see the programme here. Note that they refer to Princess Irene as 'Irene of Lippe Biesterfeld' and not as Princess Irene, most probably her own request. Interesting that Princess Irene who was brought up in Palaces prefers to be in a tent in Africa btw. What she said to Paul Rosemuller is telling to. She was in Africa, looking over the hills and said 'there is no 'franje' (decorations?) here, it is so real and pure and there can't be any lies here'.

Irene van Lippe-Biesterfeld,is how she wishes to be adressed since over a decade if not longer. No frills, and still,if Irene turns up all heads move with her,an astonishingly elegant, charming woman. She used to be called the "most handsome",de knapste,of all four sisters, and darn she is,well,in my opinion that is,she has that extra quality.Frankly, all sisters have aged gracefully wouldn't you agree?

Oh that Rosemuller interview, one of the best, open and honest ones I've ever seen, very very moving indeed. She is so open,no side doors to escape, just Irene.

But when she turns up,there's no doubt whom she is:

From the website 'www.duurzaam-ondernemen.nl' it was said that the Princess is referred to as HRH Princess Irene of The Netherlands again. She says that she had come to realise that that is also a part of who she is and that such a name might help her in promote her nature college. SHe said that when she decided to go her own way through life, she needed to get away from her title.

Saw that story in HJA's Royalblog a week ago or so.She already, for some time, used her title while abroad.

So,HRH Princess Irene,Princess of The Netherlands,Princess of Orange Nassau is back.Good.

princess Irene has been interviewed by Belgian royalty monthly 'Royals'. She says she thinks it is important to bring chilren into touch with nature. That is why she started the website NATUUR - WIJS , where she tries to get children outside with their schoolclass.

The magazine also has an article on 'Bergplaas', the estate of the princess in South Africa where she gives course about nature, sustainability etc.

Princess Irene visited her daughter Margarita in the OLVG hospital in Amsterdam. She was escorted by her son-in-law Tjalling ten Cate.

Pictures by Reni van Maren, look here.

Irene has always been a fascinating if controversial woman. I remember all the ado about her wedding to Carlos Hugo of Bourbon Parme. IMO I think she was the best looking of the four Dutch princesses.

Oh yes,I agree in all,she was the beauty of Orange, absolutely, still is in a way.As the sisters become a little older....they all get a certain beauty that only comes with time.................Still hope...:ROFLMAO:

Yes, despite of the age, she still is a beautiful woman...

Thanks TD! Princess Irene was invited to the parlament to talk with the commission of agriculture, nature and food quality as they wanted to know more about the speech that the princess gave a year ago (related to her nature college).

On June 10th an interview by Twan Huys for NOVA college tour will be broadcasted, In the programme princess Irene tells how her ex brother-in-law, prince Sixtus of Bourbon-Parma, shot (!) at the princess and her husband Carlos-Hugo in Spain, killing two people,. The princess and her ex husband were able to hide in the bushes. This happened in 1975.

I remember that.More so,I posted this story at the Bourbon Parma thread a year or more ago,as too many seemed to believe Sixtus was a sort of holy man just due to a title he has. They were not aware Sixtus is a raging backstabbing grunchy man. A walking mental case, foother for generations of psychiatrists.
I think it is very clear that I am totally disgusted with this insignificant frustrated man.Yuck.It is one of the nastyest persons on the globe.
Believe you me,it is just incredible.

Strange family :
Only Françoise and Carlos-Hugo were married.
Sixtus , Thérèse , and Marie-des Neiges never married.
And the sadiest is that Francoise lost two sons, one commit suicide.

The family is somewhat strange indeed. When Irene & Carlos-Hugo were just engaged, Queen Juliana, prince Bernhard and princess Beatrix went on a state visit to Mexico. In their absense the Bourbon-Parma's stayed at Soestdijk palace and tried to take over control off it. In the end princess Margriet/ the palace staff almost called the police to get them out.

:previous: you mean they were not invited, walked in and acted like if they owned the place?:eek: Strange indeed.

I believe they were invited actually, but while Juliana and Bernhard were away they created a mess and took things over as if it was their place. In the end the staff did not call the police but prince Bernhard. Prince Bernhard told the Bourbon-Parma's one or twoi things by phone (knowing prince Bernhard that couldn't be too polite ;)) and they left the same day.

Of course the image of the Bourbon-Parma's was bad, something like the wicked catholic in-laws who 'stole' our prettiest princess and made her a catholic ;), so I am not sure how reliable the story is.

At the Polygoon video of the wedding of irene and Carlos-Hugo, the reporter maliciously remarks that nobody paid any attention to the Bourbon-Parma sisters for example.

In this case the ratio is not so bad regarding Bourbon-Parma statistics: of the 6 children of duke Elias who beacame quite old just 1 married; and also between the children of princess Irene the ratio is worst: 1 of 4 has married (2 times)
