Jamie runs a charity that trains young unemployed peopke how to cook, and then employs then in his restaurants called Fifteen (after the 15 apprentices he first took on). Often the charity helps them set up businesses of their own after a few years of training. For example, he helped this young couple get a lease on a pub they were going to turn around and run.

Well, he won't be staying overnight, so he should be safe enough.

Dare I say it, he looks good in the first picture! . Most of us would not wish to see him make a cameo appearance in Dr Who, the heir to the throne is worth so much more than that, but to this producer and the Mail, it makes him a miserable swine! By that token, let's have HM and Princess Anne do Strictly Come Dancing, no, they must be miserable swine as well!

I was shocked by the language used as well. I don't require referential behaviour from the media but to use such a quote is absolutely inappropriate, both by the one quoted and by the publication who printed it.

Let's face it, Russell Davis obviously knew that Clarence House had answered the request on behalf of HRH so to call him a miserable swine is just pathetic.

Sam, is "miserable swine" really such an enormous insult as it would be here when translated into German?

Well, when the word 'swine' was originally coined as a term of insult it meant the same as it does in German (pig) but down the years swine has become an insult in itself rather than being another word for pig. I haven't explained that terribly well, do you get what I mean?

It is not the absolute and enormous insult it is in Germany, It is still not nice in the UK, but it can seen by some as a jokey insult.

Thank you Sam and Skydragon, I see.
Hm... what could be seen as an jokey insult when spoken out in a situation always sounds far worse when written about in a paper. One should not comment that way on dealing with the media. And it's hardly a novice to the media who said it. So shame on him as well.

I think that as soon as such a bombastic, humerous, send-up as this is put into print and becomes both "out of context" and an outright insult.

Clarence House has said that Charles never even knew about the approach to have a part in Dr Who. It was turned down on his behalf by them!
Quote:
However, the Prince's Clarence House office said the Prince never had a chance to view the invite himself. "We did receive a request from Doctor Who 's producers," said a spokeswoman. "It was not turned down by Prince Charles but by a Clarence House official. We receive hundreds of requests and he doesn't see them all.
Britain's Prince Charles has been invited to appear on the BBC's Doctor Who television show - and his office has not ruled it out. Initially, Clarence House turned down the approach, a move which prompted the show's executive producer Russell T Davies to label the Prince a "miserable swine" in a joking reference to the heir to the throne's favourite radio show

Wriggle, wriggle, but I believe it is a phrase used in the Goon show.
