The Duke of Cambridge has paid tribute to First World War servicemen whose bravery earned them the Victoria Cross, including a lance corporal who single-handedly stormed a machine gun post. William laid a wreath during a service outside Birmingham's Hall of Memory as he unveiled 10 of 627 memorial stones commissioned by the Government to honour all those awarded the Victoria Cross (VC) during the Great War-

PRINCE William today awarded medals to heroic military medics who helped in the fight against Ebola.

The future monarch gave the Government Ebola Medal for Service in West Africa to members of 22 Field Hospital.

Last October they were deployed to Sierra Leone – one of the countries worst affected by the outbreak – for six months.

They set up a treatment unit to care for the brave aid workers helped treat those with the disease.

Some had to be admitted for treatment themselves after contracting Ebola

Given the venue, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, this is the kind of language I would expect. Not sure he's sending signals

Quote:
Prince William today gave a strong signal that he wants Britain to stay in the European Union, telling civil servants that uniting with international allies was the 'bedrock of our security and prosperity'.

The Duke of Cambridge said Britain had long been an 'outward looking nation' and said the 'ability to unite in common action with other nations is essential' in an 'increasingly turbulent world'.

And he all but named the EU as he referenced international organisations such as the United Nations, Nato and 'elsewhere' as institutions that help Britain affirms its 'commitment to working in partnership with others'.

Prince William was presenting awards to members of the Foreign Office's Diplomatic Academy.

I agree - no signals re Europe. What else was he supposed to talk about. Just media spinning.

we can work in partnership with Europe without being in the EU, there is the Commonwealth, China, US etc.

And whatever the outcome, we would still be part of NATO.

I am so tired of UK media giving opinion and spin in news articles instead of facts.

Look, he doesn’t even mention the EU; he avoids it because his staff obviously realise that Royals should not get involved in elections and referenda. He talks about being outward looking but working in partnership with allies.

Sure, and Brexiteers believe that just as much as those who are convinced Britain should stay in. The outers simply take a different view of what our relationship with those allies, in Europe at least, should be.

So, if you are in Britain today and you hear someone say, on the television news or in the pub, that Prince William has come out one way or the other on the EU referendum, just say no, no he hasn’t.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson said: 'This speech is not about Europe. He does not mention the word Europe once'

They added that the timing of the speech was a “complete coincidence” and that the invitation to speak at the inaugural Diplomatic Academy awards came “months ago”.

The fact that you are members of Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service makes the bond between you and the Crown a very special one: one that I believe has real substance.

As The Queen approaches her 90th birthday, it is worth reflecting on the unparalleled role that The Queen has played in foreign relations and with world leaders during 63 years of unbroken service to the nation and Commonwealth. This is the same of duty to the nation and commitment to the wider common good that I see in Her Majesty's diplomats as I travel around the world.
Video:
The Duke of Cambridge has handed out awards to graduates of the Foreign Office’s Diplomatic Academy in central London this morning, saying there is a strong and special bond between the UK’s diplomatic service and the Crown. Accompanied by the Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond MP, Prince William went on to praise Her Majesty’s Diplomatic Service for its hard work in projecting British values around the world.

I'll be honest, the short hair is not growing on me. We do need a bad pun emoticon.
And it could be the light - but I swear that suit is not navy.

Yeah, his head shape is not suited to short hair, it makes his face look extra long. Maybe if he offset the short hair with facial hair it would look better.

A little context on the press' reaction to William's speech. Last year during a state visit to Germany, the Queen said the following

‘In our lives, Mr President, we have seen the worst but also the best of our continent.

‘We must work hard to maintain the benefits of the post-war world, she added. ‘We know that division in Europe is dangerous.’

The following is an example of how the press 'interpreted' her comments

The UK press has no scruples. It’s like last year when they portrayed The Queen as a Nazi sympathizer because of that childhood video of her mocking the Nazi salute, while they deliberately underplayed the year(pre-war) the video was taken and the culture in the UK at the time.

Stephen Glass was the laughing stock of American journalists because of his spinning yarns. In the UK, Mr. Glass would have probably been celebrated as he would be amongst his ilk.

I actually buy a paper every day; I subscribed to 2 UK paywalls and frankly I am hissed off.

I want my news to tell me the facts - I don't want my news "interpreted" anywhere but in opinion pieces. I am embarrassed how bad UK news media has become.

Just awful. It is painful for me.
