Politicians, actors and royalty gathered at London's Southwark Cathedral today to remember the life of Sir John Mortimer.
Friends and associates from the late author, barrister and dramatist's many careers gathered for a memorial service at the capital's South Bank.
Among the mourners were Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Alan Rickman, Jeremy Irons and Lord Mandelson

IMO, Camilla looked very chic.

Camilla did look wonderful. I love the brooch.

I know little about Sir John but his daughter, Emily Mortimer, is one of my favourite actresses.

Its good to see Camilla out and about so soon after the Canadian trip.

It is important that she be seen as a hard working royal. Whilst I am a big supporter of Camilla, I do think her summer holiday stretched from August to October, witrh hardly any engagements in between.... and that is not great.

Talking

Ouch!... Camilla accidentally gives little Jerrod a royal bump on visit to nursery playground

Quote:
As an adoring grandmother, the Duchess of Cornwall always prides herself on getting up close and personal with her young fans.

Unfortunately for three-year-old Jerrod the experience was a little closer than he actually bargained for.

Touring a nautical-themed childrens' playground in north-west London today, Camilla bent down to chat to one youngster from the Happy Child Harlesden Nursery and accidentally bumped the little boy who had been trying to unceremoniously squeeze past her.

Pics 19.11.2009

Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall breaks the tassel as she switches on
the Christmas Lights in the Burlington Arcade on November 19, 2009,
London, England.
After a boisterous countdown by a large crowd of invited shoppers, she
tugged the tassel, only to have it come off in her hand and the rope
bounce above her head. The guests all howled with laughter and Camilla
appeared to take the mishap good-naturedly and smiled broadly as she
looked around.

She really does. I think it's sort of charming that she's so accident-prone.

She does, but I agree, it fits into her awkward earthy charm. She carries off mishaps with such ease. But the photo with the little boy and has got to be the royal photo of the year. so funny!

Mishaps do make one smile (guffaw) where the dear Duchess is concerned rather than cringe! I think perhaps it is because she appears to have rather a good thigh-slapping Jilly Cooper-esque sense of humour!!!!

I loved the event where HRH was unveiling a plaque and it fell on the floor....her reaction was classic.....a really 'Ooooops' moment and it was hysterical when it was later found that the plaque had been secured to it's mounting with blue tac!!!!!!!

That's what I was remembering, Connie. I don't think it's anything that Camilla herself causes (not being critical of her for this!). My guess is that people get nervous and don't properly attach things... although that should have applied to Diana events as well and I don't remember hearing about these odd events with her.

As for bumping into the little boy, children are probably lined up in front of her and she wouldn't expect anyone to be going around the back! It was a cute story...

I was thinking about this and I think its a bit of both. They get nervous and dont attach things properly and Camilla is just accident prone. I know, cause Im such a clumsy accident prone person myself. I dont know if I attract the incidents or cause them. They just always happen. But I always just laugh it off and hope everyone else does

Camilla condemns explicit rap videos: Beyonce dance angers Duchess of Cornwall
The Duchess of Cornwall yesterday spoke for the first time about the way youngsters are sexualised by explicit rap videos.

Well if the Telegraph carried the story too with quotes, I guess it is sound!

Call me a prude or old-fashioned, but I still dread music channels and seeing kids watching some of the music videos being aired on TV today!

I am so glad that someone in the public eye has finally spoken up....I find some videos made by the likes of Lady Gaga, Beyonce et al verging on pornographic......I cringe to think of young kids being subjected to such lascivious and tasteless cavorting which is generally portrayed in a cartoonishly unsubtle way! The videos aren't even suggestive...they are blatant!!!!The same goes for some album covers....Madonna's Hard Candy cover was absolutely disgraceful IMHO especially as little kids saw it everywhere in shops.....Then again Madonna is the Grand-ma of controversial and sometimes the crude! But at least her prancing around clad a shiny lilac leotard, tights and roller skates was not as tasteless as some of the bikini clad divas doing there thing!!!! Good for the DOC for speaking out!

DOC speaks out

Many community groups and women's groups have spoken out on this issue many times. Oprah also spoke out against rap videos's depiction of women. What usually happens there's a lot of talk pro and con for a few weeks and then the same old trashy videos keep being made.
I appreciate the DOC for speaking out-hopefully some parents will take heed and turn off the tv. What is so troublesome is the link b/t sex and violence in these videos. This is why I cancelled my cable when my kids were 6 and 3.

I'm far from a fan of the Duchess of Cornwall, but I have to respect her for taking this stand. I particularly wonder what the effect of these music videos has on young boys and how it affects their view of girls and women. A tune can be perfectly catchy on the radio; but it can be revolting when seen on video.

On a side note, the comments section on the D... Mail page (yes i know...) is quite revealing about the acceptance (or not) of the DOC and her right (or not) to discuss about society subjects ...
