I hope this link works because you can see Catherine leaving and greeting the crowds. A little girl was due to give the Duchess some flowers but decided not to and Catherine thought that was very funny.

The Duchess of Cambridge has passed the flowers she was given during her visit to Stockton to Zoe's Place:

I think that's very nice of Catherine to do this.

I love this and I hope she makes a habit of it. Given her interest in hospice care, I have no doubt this was a personal gesture- and a very nice one.

What a lovely gesture, and not at all surprising, considering the person it came from.

it's very sweet of kate to send flowers to hospitals or hospices of the cities she visits. i hope this becomes a "tradition" of hers. i bet it can make the day of the patients of the hospital to know they were sent by her, let alone how pretty places look with fresh flowers.
This is common practice of the women in the BRF, at least the Queen herself does it often. She continues to do it even on international tours, so nothing new here.

It obviously was news for some of the readers here, so I don't mind reading about it and the delighted comments. And if it really is a common practise, it's a nice one and one people should be able to read more often about it, as we so often read about the cost of the monarchy, so why not be able to indulge more often in positive stories about the effect they have on the people. Though this hospice is not involved with the duchess, it now feels personally gifted by her, that's obvious and it means recognition for them. Especially as they need more donations than they get. So - great article. Even if Catherine herself actively did not do so "much" to get the results.

How amazing is that? I think the two young ladies definitely deserve kudos for seriously doing something to make a difference.

I did not intend to undermine Catherine's donation of the flowers she received to hospices and hospitals, only to remark that it is not a "new" tradition started by her. She is simply continuing a very sweet practice that the Queen and others have done for many years

You're right, the flowers used at state banquets are donated to local hospitals and hospices after they are seen. The Queen's flowers she receives on days out also get donated to specifically chosen places apparently.

Please note that posts that refer to Catherine as Queen of Hearts have been moved to The Duchess of Cambridge: Will she become more popular than Diana? .

I realise this is 'old news' but my aunt just emailed me the article and I thought I'd post it. Aunty said the town was buzzing all day and the teenagers are still talking about it haha

What a lovely article! I bet seeing something like this boosts Catherine's confidence. She's making such a good impression, and the public (especially children) can't get enough of her. I'm always glad to see stories like this. They're so much nicer to read than the vitriol some 'newspapers' like to call 'criticism'.
