I was impressed with how the PM obviously was delighted she was at the event - and that he saw her as a plus for the event.
More than just a nice looking woman in a great dress, I think she has shown herself to be an asset socially in these events.
Kate seems a natural and not a schemer; she is someone who seems able to listen to others and maintain sparkling conversation. Good for her!

Wow she looked amazing. I like the fact that she put her hair up, she should do it more often. She looked elegant and graceful and I wouldnt mind seeing her look like this more often. Good job Catherine. Hey and whats up with those earrings? Wow, nice. A gift?

It's work - it really is.
Absolutely. I've been working in the education industry in some capacity for over fifteen years, and it's pretty similar. You have to be able to carry on a conversation, and if you're in the classroom, captivate the attention of your students. If you're an introvert like myself, it takes a great deal of effort (and it's exhausting for those who are social butterflies). Sometimes kids don't respond to plain lecture, so you have to really get creative, and start doing things that are out of your comfort zone (for me it's being upbeat, because I'm not a perky type at all). At the end of the day, you're drained. So yes, being amongst our fellow humans is a tough job, and Catherine does it pretty darn well. You can never say she looks as if she doesn't want to be there, because she's always smiling and looking engaged.

Thank you for the article. Catherine certainly knows how to schmooze. I'd imagine she's gaining more and more confidence with each event. She strikes me as someone who enjoys being with people.

Really.
There's a lot of vitriol directed at Kate (and, to a lesser extent, William, for deciding to marry Kate).

I tend to like her, I think she always dresses well and looks appropriate. And I believe many members of the public would admit as much.
But I don't see her getting the kind of adulation that Diana did (which is a good thing, imo).

The point is she seems to suit William; they have been together a long time and she knows him very well. If the marriage endures as I believe it will, that will do more to silence the critics than a dozen nice articles in the papers.

William made his choice and we should respect it. Kate seems to be a very nice person who has accepted the role that comes with marriage to the heir to the throne.

They're a good fit for each other. IMO those nasty articles are just a bunch of jealous people who can't stand to see others be happy.

i could not agree more!

the problem with comparing her to diana is interesting because in the 80s, it was a completely different world. no IM, blogs, internet forums etc. diana suddenly was Pcharles' love interest and not much was known about her. she was seen as young and innocent. we waited to see photos in the press, not instantaneous web links, (and i am sure that there was a lot of spin doctoring done by the palace at that time.)

diana was endearing because she worked in a nursery. she was presented as the virginal bride and the mother of the future king. and then as the loving mum. later, when things went south, 'everyone' wanted to point fingers of blame and they pointed at her. when she started to make a name on the world stage for HERSELF in her humanitarian work, she proved herself to everyone, and kind of made her ex-family look not so great and it all got rather ugly.

i recall a photo of diana in a sheer skirt that was backlit by the sun so 'oooooh my! we saw a sillhouette of her legs'. when catherine was in canada, the wind blew up her skirt and someone snapped a photo of her thong and it went viral!!!.

i guess what i am trying to say is that there is much more opportunity for people to say and do nasty things to one's reputation these days. i just wish that people would respect william's decision, be happy for them that they have love, and give the 2 of them some peace, privacy, and positive support.

This is quite ridiculous IMHO. I have dozens of girlfriends who spend a similar amount on nails annually and think nothing of it. Before I forced myself to use up the makeup I had (or donate it to the local Women's shelter) I am sure I had more money than than Kate does in her stash. Even QVC sells skin treatments on auto delivery that compare with the annual total in the article. The hair cost - well frankly if I had hair that great and were married to a wealthy man - I'd probably make the same choice.
I know many of us would be in a snit is she appeared with dry split ends.

I happen to agree with you. The only way this 'newspaper' could know any of this information is by actually seeing the receipts for products/appointments that they're talking about. In my opinion, whenever someone claims that he/she is better looking, smarter, nicer than anyone else, that the truth is quite the opposite. Catherine has to look good; its part of her job, and if she happens to actually be naturally attractive (which she is), that's not something to ridicule her for. It's not as if she planned it. But this is what happens when there's no news to be had; the 'editors' and 'reporters' of DM put something like this up to create trouble.
