If Kate enjoys spending that time at the salon, I won't criticize her. I can only compare my "beauty" excursions, in that I can get a mani-pedi, wash, cut, color, condition and style in an hour and 15 minutes, max. Then again, I have plenty to do and can't (won't) linger longer than absolutely necessary.

I know that some women I know do spend that amount of time to preserve their "natural" good looks.

I don't know if its enjoying time in the Salon to get your hair done or just doing what is necessary.

As I said before, I have long hair and I certainly don't enjoy the three hours in the salon. I can certainly think of other things to do with my time. But the fact is when I do my hair on my own its looks a hot mess.

When my hair was shorter I was in and out in 90 minutes but I think short hair makes my face look bigger than it is and I rather enjoy longer hair (except for the maintenance as it takes longer and usually costs more for longer hair). So I endure

I'm just so glad that I don't have to wear those "beer can" rollers. I've embraced my short, curly, low-maintenance hair to the fullest extent!

If I had curly hair, I would embrace it as well. I like nothing better than pulled back, ultra curly hair pulled into a big puff at the back. For little girls, twin puffs are really cute!

But I digress. As I said, I do NOT begrudge Kate 4 hours at the salon. Hopefully, she is having her nails and toes and other "necessary" items being maintained during that time.

Wow! There must be some truly multi tasking folks around. My mani-pedi alone takes one hour and I thought she was fast. I can understand the time since Catherine has her hair colored and then I think "streaked" as well, that alone with the length of her hair would take a long time.

And yes, I too am getting tired of the "non-working" comments. It is clear that she is spending time on various issues in The Firm along with being a wife. I sometimes wonder what people who spend a great deal of time on the internet criticizing others must be doing with their time ... clearly not working. :)

I'm with you there. Just because we don't see her every working moment doesn't mean she doesn't do anything 'productive'. For all we know, she could be volunteering on William's base, helping someone with childcare, whatever. Just because it's not visible, doesn't mean it's not there.

Regardless, I think it is admirable that she is making an effort to still go out and get her hair done. Not to mention, it is probably more convenient for color and treatments since she only has the cottage at KP; hardly seems equipped with a salon; (which I would imagine exists in the palaces).

I think she and William are really putting forth an effort not to be sequestered and hoping that the attention dies down a bit.

i kindof wonder if she was 'sitting' that close to a window too, most places i go have mirrors surrounding everyone while the work is being done. maybe she walked to the window to just look outside while waiting. it does get boring having your hair done.

I agree, and I'm sure Kate is also up to her eyeballs with all the information and procedures she must learn to be a viable, productive member of the Royal Family. Perhaps a good portion of her day resembles a college situation - she might very well be sitting in the equivalent of a conference room looking at visuals and taking notes while listening to a multitude of lectures. After Diana's pitfalls, I'm sure the Queen and counselors are taking every precaution to ensure that this young woman is fully prepared for the role she's in and for the ones in the years ahead. And that takes a lot of preparation, in my opinion.

Well said. Plus, I have no doubt that in later years she'll 'make up' for all the 'free time' she is enjoying now. She doesn't strike me as someone who is lazy, but as someone who is careful to what/whom she commits to.

Well I work and IMO I don't see too much Kate is spending time on within the ''Firm''.... If it's behind the scenes fine but honestly I see far more pics of her shopping then anything else so for now that perception is reality as they say....I'm sure one day she'll be a fullfledged working Royal, for now she's not which is fine but I also can't say I see her ''spending time on various issues''......

Pls note I'm not criticizing her just giving my opinion......

I'm sure my opinion will be vehemetly disagreed with :)

IMO the part that I disagree with is your statement is that "you don't see her spending time on various issues" I would counter that with how do you know? As you stated you only see pictures of her shopping, and while those pictures might give a snapshot of one activity of what she is doing during her spare time, it is not the only activity.

In short, since we don't have access to Catherine's activities via a Big Brother 24/7 camera (where every move is taped and shown)....how do you know what she is doing at all hours of the day?

Really none of us do. She could be sitting in Wales and KP sitting on the couch eating chocolate all day in front of the telly, or she could be having meetings with Palace advisers. I guess the truth will be known when she starts taking on patronages.

At least I agree ... to assume that she "works" behind the scenes is as much speculation than that she spends her days waiting and shopping.

As soon as Kate is out in public, she will be photographed and its unfortunate that we usually see her either shopping or having her hair done.

Not really. It is not mere speculation that she is spending time "behind the scenes". The Palace announced a few days ago (last week?) that she was spending time in meetings with charities, largely at SJP, to work out which projects she wanted to get involved with.

Which is probably the extent of her public outings in London.

For now the perception that she isn't involved in charities and such is the reality since as plp have stated we don't ''see'' what she is doing and unfortunatly that's how it works for public figures, sometimes perception is more important then reality. I take the the palace felt the need to announce that as a sign they see that she has not been seen doing things and having involvement.....

Nothing really per say but if she is not going to at least 'work' on a charity it seems a bit of a waste of her 'royalness' but she doesn't HAVE to and if she doesn't fine but then she should just admit it, and embrace it.....

You have a very valid point there and I have to admit the answer is that there is nothing wrong with just being a wife or housewife for as long as it suits her to do so.

For all our whinging and whines of outrage that she doesn't do anything you are right, she is not on the civil list, William is not on the civil list and, if she wants to stay home, play tennis and make babies, well it's her choice, no bones about it!

IMO I think Kate could do well to learn from Princess Mary. She stepped right into her role as well as learning Danish. She has done a wonderful job and is a true princess as well as a loving wife and mother. Maybe Kate could get some advice from her

Agree with you, Mary is doing a wondferful job. But there is a difference between her and Kate. Mary is the Crownprincess, she is in front line. Kate has to still stay behind, Camilla comes first.

But where is the point in having royals when they chose to lead the average Joe's life? They might not be on the civil list but the taxpayer does pay for their security, day in, day out, even when shopping or waiting at the hairdresser's.

And just to add to what MRSJ just said, Clarence House are not stupid and they know exactly what to do or say in order to distract people from wondering too much about certain things. Like most other royal houses they are shrewd enough to tell people that pigs can fly even though they usually cant

I will believe in Kate relating to any patronages when she is actually seen doing it in public and not when Clarence House says she is looking into it.
