MY HUSBAND AND iPOD: Queen joins hi-tech revolution by getting an iPod Friday, 17 June 2005 Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has dipped into the royal purse to snap up an iPod, a report said.

Britain's biggest-selling daily The Sun said the 79-year-old sovereign had bought a six-gigabyte silver model for 169 pounds (255 euros, 310 dollars).

The pocket-sized digital music players can hold up to 10,000 downloaded songs.

Queen Elizabeth's second son Prince Andrew, fourth in line to the throne, was reported to be behind the move, having bought his mother a mobile phone and taught her how to use it in 2001.

"The Queen loves music and was impressed by how small and handy the iPod is," a royal insider told The Sun.

"Obviously it is quite complicated to download songs, but I'm sure one of the courtiers will do it for her.

"Prince Andrew will probably also help out because he's a real dab hand with gadgets."

The newspaper suggested Abba's "Dancing Queen" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears might be on the royal iPod.

I believe I´ve read that their favorite song when they were a-courting was "People will say we´re in Love". That´s a pretty good song in my book.

It's a nice song. It's about two lovers who are trying to hid their feelings. Just like Elizabeth and Philip.

HER ROYAL ILLNESS
QUEEN SKIPS POLO WITH SORE THROAT
By Nathan Yates, Royal Reporter
20 June 2005 Mirror

THE Queen had a rare day off sick yesterday and skipped a polo match because of a sore throat.

She decided to stay at home to recover so she will be well enough to go to Prince William's graduation party later this week.

A Buckingham Palace source said it was "very unusual" for the 79-year-old monarch to be too ill to appear at a royal engagement.

But the insider added: "She has a busy schedule this week and she wants to make sure she is well enough to fulfil her duties.

"She does not want to miss seeing Prince William graduate from university on Thursday."

A Palace spokesman added: "She has a sore throat and took the day off as a precaution."

The Queen had been due to appear at the Guards' Polo Club in Windsor, Berks, with the Duke of Edinburgh, who ended up watching the match on his own. On Tuesday, she is to visit Prince Harry at Sandhurst military academy in Surrey.

Next day she flies to St Andrews University in Scotland for Thursday's graduation ceremony where William will receive his 2:1 geography degree.

The Queen developed the infection while appearing at Royal Ascot in York last week.

FIT FOR A QUEEN

THE Queen has only had time off sick a handful of times.

DEC 2003: Facial moles cut off, knee cartilage op.

JAN 2003: Op on damaged knee.

1994: Broke arm.

JULY 82: Wisdom tooth removed.

The engagements included a visit to the elite Sandhurst military academy near London, where the 79-year-old monarch's grandson Prince Harry is a cadet officer.

The queen developed a sore throat over the weekend and has a "heavy" cold, a spokeswoman for Buckingham Palace said.

She withdrew from a reception late Monday to mark the centenary of the charity Friends of the Elderly at St. James' Palace in central London. She also canceled a Tuesday visit to Sandhurst to watch officer cadets on parade and an audience later that day with Singapore President S. R. Nathan at Buckingham Palace.

The queen is often described as robustly healthy. She travels around Britain and abroad frequently.

Her eldest son, Prince Charles, is heir to the throne, but the queen has said she would never step down.

Queen Elizabeth II cancels three engagements after catching cold

I hope Her Majesty feels well soon. While the Queen is unusually healthy for her age, for someone near 80 having a bad cold can lead to some serious complications. I am sure, however, that Her Majesty will be much better soon.

Bad Cold Forces Queen to Cancel Engagements including Harry trip
Written by Angelina Monday, 20 June 2005 The Queen was nursing a bad cold tonight which forced her to cancel three engagements.

The 79-year-old pulled out of watching grandson Prince Harry parade tomorrow at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

A sore throat she contracted last week while at the Ascot races in York, where the weather was often cold and rainy, has affected her voice and she had developed a heavy cold.

"She didn't want to pass it on to those she was meeting," a Palace spokeswoman said. "It's not done lightly. But it's no more than a bad cold."

The aide added: "She had a sore throat and didn't attend a private engagement at a polo match over the weekend.

"The sore throat is now a cold and to help her recover, she is not attending these particular engagements."

The Queen had been due tomorrow to present the elite Army training college Sandhurst with new Colours, as well as having an audience with the President of Singapore at Buckingham Palace.

The Queen, who is normally in robust health, is instead recuperating at Windsor Castle.

It is unusual for the Queen, who rarely takes sick days, to cancel public engagements.

She had also been planning to hold a reception for pensioners tonight to mark the Centenary of the Friends of the Elderly at St James's Palace, but the Duke of Edinburgh will now go in her place.

On Thursday, Prince William graduates at St Andrews University and both the Queen and the Duchess of Cornwall have been invited to attend.

The Queen, who also has an investiture scheduled on Wednesday, is still hoping to travel to Scotland for the family day out.

"Time will tell," the Palace spokeswoman added.

The Queen last cancelled public engagements in December 2003 after an operation to remove torn cartilage from her left knee and surgery to remove lesions from above her eyebrow.

Earlier the same year, in January, she had surgery for a torn cartilage on her right knee after she jarred it walking on rough ground during a private visit to Newmarket, Suffolk.

Her 45-minute operation was a success and the Queen used a walking stick during convalescence when her official engagements were scaled down.

The long-planned parade at Sandhurst in Camberley, Surrey, in front of 3,500 spectators will still take place.

Lieutenant Colonel Roy Parkinson, spokesman for academy, said the Colours presentation - the first of its kind for more than 30 years - would be made by General Sir Michael Walker, Chief of the Defence Staff, instead.

"By and large it will be exactly the same with a few minor variations, taking into account that the reigning monarch will no longer be taking the parade," he said.

The Queen was due to inspect all of the 762 officer cadets, including 20-year-old new recruit Harry.

It's unusual for the Queen to cancel engagements because of a cold, but at her age I suppose it's a sensible precaution.

By the time the Queen Mum was pushing 80 we'd already been used to thinking of her as a dear little old lady for years; somehow it's hard to think of the Queen as a little old lady even though she's going to be 80 next year.

I think that must be really serious cold that makes the Queen to cancel her engagements because i had heard that the Queen normally cancel her engagements just when she has physical problems really serious and unable to do the engagements.
It's very sad to hear that the Queen is getting sick now,i wish she will get cover it soon.
