The Queen with Canadian Gornvernor at Sandringham house yesterday:
Canada's 26th Governor-General Adrienne Clarkson (who is sort of like our Queen in lieu of the actual Queen!) and her husband John Ralston Saul, an essayist and novelist. The Right Honourable Adrienne leads ceremonies in Canada that QEII would carry out in Great Britain, such as giving the speech from the throne, leading the Trooping of the Colour in June, etc. In the fourth picture of QEII dressed in green, she is planting trees at Adrienne's residence, Rideau Hall.

Some pictures of QEII and Prince Phillip with Adrienne and John during the royal visit from October 2002.

Queen Elizabeth looks lovely in red, and a very stylish outfit! Does anyone know where this Castle Ridding is, and what she was doing there?

No idea, actually. Wonder if pdas is still around and can come and tell us.

I don't have a clue as to where Castle Ridding. Maybe someone from the UK can tell us exactly where it is situated. What I understood from the picture caption was that she was at St. Lawrence Church for a Sunday service.

Castle Rising (not Ridding) is near King's Lynn, Norfolk.

This is an article from "King's Lynn Today":

Queen at Rising

Fifty people turned out on Sunday to see The Queen attend church at Castle Rising.

The Queen, wearing a striking cerise coat and matching hat, and the Duke of Edinburgh were driven to the church of St Lawrence from Sandringham House.
They were met at the lych gate by the Rector of the Sandringham Group of Parishes, the Rev Jonathan Riviere, and Lord Greville Howard.
After the hour-long service, the Queen was escorted out of church and up the path by churchwarden Mr Richard Shipp.
The duke was escorted by the other churchwarden, Lady Howard.
Children and adults presented The Queen with flowers.
The service was taken by the Rev Jonathan Riviere and the preacher was the Bishop of Lincoln, the Rt Rev John Saxbee.

26 January 2005

Perhaps The Queen was invited by people to attend this church instead of the usual one, like it happend once in Scotland last summer.

Thank you very much for the correction, ElisaR. I got "Castle Ridding" from the photo agency that took the pics. Shows you can't trust their spellings..

January 27, 2005: Queen Elizabeth attended a Service in memorial of the Holocaust Victims at Westminister Central Hall. Today, is the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz Concentration Camp by the Soviet Red Army. The Queen also met survivors from the Holocaust.

So Castle Rising is somewhere near Sandringham, then, if it's near King's Lynn. That makes sense.

If the Queen was driven there from Sandringham for a morning service, it means the village is near. And the article was on "King's Lynn Today".

Then I tried typing "Castle Rising" on the BBC's Where I live (which provides local weather informations, etc.): the map shows this point

maps_51.gif

it's the same of Sandringham.

Queen marks 53rd year of her rule

The Queen has marked the 53rd anniversary of her accession to the throne with a trip to church.

She attended a morning service at West Newton Church on the Sandringham royal estate in Norfolk, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Queen does not celebrate Accession Day as it also commemorates the death of her father, George VI.

She prefers to stay at Sandringham, where the King died in his sleep early in the morning of 6 February, 1952.

During the service, the Queen presented around 20 Sunday school pupils with awards for good attendance.

Onlookers' welcome

The children, who each received a bible or prayer book, performed a Russian religious folk tale called Papa Panov for the Queen.

The monarch attended church wearing a lime green coat with a matching hat over an orange dress.

Some 50 onlookers gathered outside the church to welcome the Queen.

Royal watcher Sheila Clark, 47, from Glasgow, said she had come down from Scotland especially to mark the anniversary.

She said the Queen had stopped in the nearby village of Wolferton on Saturday to say hello when she recognised her and fellow royal watcher Alan Morton.

"She was just driving past, she saw us and stopped her car. She knows us both and said she knew why we were here so we could see her at the service today.

"She just chatted about the weather and said how nice the station was.

"I told her we had come down especially for today."

Union jacks have been flown from government buildings to mark the anniversary of the date that the Queen succeeded her father. Her official coronation did not follow until the next year.

The 78-year-old monarch will return to Buckingham Palace this week from Sandringham, where she has been since before Christmas.

Her royal duties next week include opening new offices for the British Red Cross and presenting a CBE to rock star Roger DaTRFey for services to charity, music and entertainment.

Queen wore a "cheerful" outfit, she wore a green overcoat and hat with yellow dress underneath.

Thanks for the pics, GrandDuchess.

Queen Elizabeth certainly looks every inch a queen. I love that color on her. Actually, I think I prefer her in sober, pastel colors rather than bright, primary colors. Also, I love the bouquet, so colorful.

Here are more pics for your viewing enjoyment...

Queen to star in new tv show
Hellomagazine.com

At first glance the Queen might not seem a likely candidate for a reality TV show. But it seems the monarch will be making an appearance in the latest production from the company which brought us Faking It and Wife Swap.

The new show will be a rather more refined affair, though, with cameras taking a candid but respectful look at life behind the scenes in Windsor Castle. Her Majesty will herself make several appearances in the three-part documentary, which is being made by TV firm RDF, while her husband Prince Philip gives an in-depth interview.

Scheduling bosses at the Beeb are yet to decide a transmission date for the program, but it is expected to be broadcast on BBC1 this spring. As a result its broadcast may coincide with wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles. The couple will be making their vows at the local town hall, but the blessing and subsequent reception are both taking place inside the walls of Windsor.

"The series focuses on life at Windsor Castle and the surrounding area, including the Crown Estate, Windsor Great Park and St George's Chapel," revealed a Buckingham Palace spokesman. "The Duke of Edinburgh will talk about the castle and his role as a ranger."

1. Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh will soon be appearing on prime time
2. Part of the show will focus on Prince Philip's role as a ranger

Very interesting. Unfortunately, I don't see any possibility that the show is broadcast in Italy. They never broadcast such things. :(

I think berlusconi has a bit to do with what italians see on tv.

If it were up to me the whole of europe would be able to see the bbc 1 and bbc 2 (not just bbc world). they are as tv goes simply excellent

Berlusconi owns a private tv company, with three channels broacasting in the whole nation.

There is a state television (with three channels too) which is influenced by the government (although in teory it isn't). But there weren't such broadcasts before Berlusconi became pm either.
In recent years I saw only Princess Diana and Queen Mother's funerals. And some in depth news, for example about the Queen Mother (when she died) and (on Berlusconi's tv) a documentary about the Queen in occasion of her jubilee (which I recorded).
They are never original: they are always recycled works put together using pieces taken from British documentaries or news. :(

The Queen and Prince Philip met the IOC evaluation commission, in the white drawing room at the Buckingham Palace. The reception is part of UK's bid to host 2012 Olympic games.

I think actually The Queen does not have much visit as other year before in these months from Feb to May.According to The Royal Engagements, i think she has fewer visit than other years in these months.

As Prince Charles and Mrs Camilla are to marry now, they had some questions about The Queen's health.I'm afraid of that.Wish Her Majesty can rule for more long time.
God Save Our Gracious Queen
Long live Her Majesty.
