Queen Elizabeth II has received Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia at Buckingham Palace, her London residence, the patriarch’s secretary, Alexander Volkov, said on Oct. 18.

The meeting is held behind closed doors and is scheduled to last for some 30 minutes.

Metropolitan Ilarion, the head of Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and Bishop of London Richard Chartres are also taking part in the meeting.

According to Volkov, the Queen and Patriarch Kirill will discuss problems of "Christians in the Middle East, as well as the current status of traditional Christianity in Europe, which, unfortunately, is facing hard times."

"We expects this meeting to be productive for the building of relations between our nations as the Church and monarchy are a foundation for the preservation of traditional values, which, unfortunately, are losing importance for many people," Volkov said earlier.

Given that this Royal couple are in their 90s, they have to be applauded. Their work ethic is amazing. Other than Anne, none come close.

For the younger royals (and the lower case "r" is deliberate!), where "appearances" laughingly termed "engagements" are at events the rest of us would give wads of cash for or compromise our credit cards (ok extreme!) to attend, and without the personal greetings back stage! is a bit of an insult!

Omit these from the litinary of engagements please when selling the Royal (younger) family!

Gosh, where to begin with this?

Over recent days, the Queen has, among other things, attended a reception for famous sportspeople (with the young 'royals' incidentally), received a statue, gone to watch horse racing and unveiled a painting of herself.

What about these events are more deserving of being termed 'engagements' than, for example, visiting a hospice for dying children, holding a reception for regular young people who have won awards for doing great things for their communities, or attending a remembrance service for policemen and women who died in service?

All the royals attend events that 'the rest of us would give wads of cash for'. Whether it's the Queen visiting the set of Game of Thrones and meeting the cast, Charles and Camilla at Wimbledon or the RSC (even getting to take part!), the Princess Royal at all those rugby matches and equestrian events, or any number of royals at film premieres over the years, if the Queen can list these things in the Court Circular as 'engagements', then the young 'royals' can too.

The Duke of Edinburgh has officially opened the world's thinnest tall building.

The 531ft (161m) British Airways i360 viewing tower stands on the site once occupied by the entrance to Brighton's ruined West Pier.

Prince Phillip was greeted by large crowds as he arrived at the attraction.

The Queen is a wonderful woman. Thank goodness she feels fit enough to still ride. Horses have been a big part of her existence since toddlerhood, and when she has to end her riding so will a big part of her life.

It's a good form of exercise for her. I think she try to keep her legs strong too. She stands for long periods of time and walk a lot.

While the Queen is riding, she also does a lot of thinking. Here is what the New Yorker speculates:

From all the craziness us Americans have had to endure with the political three ring circus lately, should someone read this "speculation" from Borowitz on CNN, it might actually perk quite a few ears up and a colossal sigh of relief would emanate as the multitudes gasp "Finally! A sane and reasonable solution!".

And the people would rejoice and name all their children Georges and Charlottes with the alternate names of Harry, Catherine, Elizabeth with Lupo and Marvin also acceptable.

But seriously, I can't help but to be truly amazed at the robust health and stamina that HM, The Queen presents to us each day we see her. To give up riding totally would be like giving up breathing for her. Its always been part and parcel of her life that she holds dear and a nice, brisk trot around Windsor Castle on her fell pony has got to be one of the most enjoyable past times she has. There are certain things that she has conceded to because of age and to be honest, they're very little ones that a lot of people in their 60s (even me) are already conceding to.

President of the Guinea Pig Club ? If it was not true, I would have sworn it was a sketch from Monty Python!

Despite its amusing name, it actually has nothing to do with guinea pigs,
