Queen Meets Up With 'The Great Dames'
hellomagazine.com

9 NOVEMBER 2004

Two of Britain's most celebrated actresses received congratulations from the Queen herself when they arrived for the premiere of their latest film. Judi Dench and Maggie Smith welcomed the monarch as guest of honour at the Leicester Square screening of Ladies In Lavender on Monday.

And there was no shortage of glamour on the red carpet, as a series of famous faces turned on the style. Pop diva Myleene Klass wowed the crowd in a strapless orange creation, while top model Nell McAndrew showed off her curves in a figure-hugging white number.

The film marks veteran actor Charles Dance's directorial debut, and the Gosford Park star was eager to praise his leading ladies for their lack of movie star pretensions. "They are a bit of a double act, they are the great dames," he said. "They are the first ladies of the acting world and they made life very easy for everybody. They don't have any airs and graces."

Maggie, who took to the red carpet in black trousers and a cream beaded top, was equally impressed with Charles' behind-the-camera skills. "This was his first time directing but he does it like he's done it before," she said.

Dame Judi, who opted for a long black dress, meanwhile poked some good-natured fun at her old friend. "It's dreadful working together," she joked. "But it's wonderful working with Charles Dance."

In the movie the two performers, who have previously colaborated on productions like A Room With A View and Tea With Mussolini, play a pair of Cornwall spinsters whose lives are turned upside down when a handsome castaway is washed up on the beach.

1. Her Majesty wore an appropriately coloured evening gown to the screening

The Queen surprised me very much. She´s 78 years old and she has a lot to do.

Tuesday: Germany
Wednesday: Germany
Thursday: Germany
Friday: Alice´s funeral
Saturday: wedding of Lady Tamara
Sunday: free???
Monday:premiere

What a programme for a 78 years old woman?

November 9, 2004: Queen Elizabeth visited Howe Barracks in Canterbury, Kent to present the 1st Battalion of The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders with the Wilkinson Sword of Peace for establishing good relations with communities during their service in Iraq. The Queen also presented the soldiers with Operational Service Medals for their service.
The Queen is also expected to meet some of the families of those currently serving with the Battalion.

I agree Liv, the Queen is certainly a very active woman. She had a busy last week in Germany followed by a Funeral and a Wedding. This week she started with a movie premiere on Monday night and a visit to Canterbury on Tuesday. Hats off to Her Majesty!!!!

The fact is The Queen has always been dedicated to her duties and responsibilities. She has always behaved impeccably. She does not always get recognised for this by the British press and public (family problems obviously haven't helped). However things do appear to have improved as shown by the enormous show of public support she received during her Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Queen presents sword of peace to Scottish soldiers
hellomagazine.com

10 NOVEMBER 2004

Queen Elizabeth formed an elegant focus of blue amidst a sea of brown uniforms as she presented a Scotland-based battalion of soldiers with a special sword of peace this week.

Dressed in a royal blue coat - the white-printed lapels of which matched her dress - and wearing a jaunty hat, the British monarch posed for ceremonial photo with the 1st Battalion of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders after presenting them with the Wilkinson Sword of Peace.

The sword is given each year to the regiment whose contribution to establishing relations with the community in which they operate is considered especially noteworthy.

Her Majesty also presented the soldiers at Canterbury’s Howe Barracks with Operational Service Medals commemorating their service in Iraq, before going on to greet members of the some of the their families.

Recruits to the 1st Battalion of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, whose regimental home is Stirling, come largely from the area ranging from the Western Isles to the Firth of Forth.

1. In her royal blue outfit, the Queen stands out from the soldiers who surround her in a photo marking the occasion

2. The British monarch also presented the men of the 1st Battalion of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders with Operational Service Medals commemorating their service in Iraq
