Despite outbursts, Prince Philip is queen's 'strength and stay'
When Queen Elizabeth II turns 80 this week, Prince Philip will be, as always, by her side as lifelong consort and confidant, someone she calls her "strength and stay."

Since the Queen's 80th birthday is today, just a reminder that events relating to that momentous event should be discussed in Queen Elizabeth's 80th Birthday Celebration 2006 thread, not here. Thanks.

Ah, James Whittaker, there's always a "but". Here's a quote from Skydragon's link: [Whittaker:] "Am I being churlish? Possibly." From the horse's mouth...

Despite hard image, Prince Philip is queen's loyal consort
LONDON (AFP) - As Queen Elizabeth II turned 80 in Windsor Castle, Prince Philip was, as always, at her side as lifelong consort and confidant.
His reliable presence seems to belie his tabloid newspaper image as a callous man who has been a bully to family members and prone to uttering offensive or even racist remarks during the couple's travels abroad.

Prince Philip to visit Ireland
DUBLIN (AFP) - Prince Philip is to visit Ireland this week, the government said, renewing speculation about a historic first-ever visit by Britain's Queen Elizabeth II.
The office of Irish President Mary McAleese said the queen's consort would be a guest of honour Wednesday at a ceremony in Dublin to mark the 21st anniversary of the Gaisce (presidential challenge for 15 to 25 year olds) awards and the 50th anniversary of his Duke of Edinburgh awards.
