it seems like there spending much more time together then other mothers and daughters...i would never spend so much time with my parents or I would never dress like my parents....no way....

I dont think thats a bad thing. I myself didnt have a good relationship with my mother when I was her age and I really wish I had. From what I have seen from other people is that if a mother and daughter can establish a good relationship early on then it will last for their entire life. There's nothing more precious than that.

I agree. I'm very, very close with my mother and I always have been. I go to university far away from home, but she and I talk on the phone at least once a day, and we do hang out when I'm at home. I consider myself fortunate to have such a friendly relationship with my mom because I know I can talk to her about anything - a lot of my friends can't do that with their parents.

i think point that was being made was that sarah is trying to be a friend at their level rather than a parent. spending lots of time together is what they want then that's a wonderful thing but taking them to places that are inappropriate for girls their age is wrong.

Poor Bea can't catch a break. If she dresses demurely, she's frumpy like her mother. If she dresses daringly, she's acting inappropriately. I know I had the occasional questionable wardrobe choice as a teenager. I think she's allowed to experiment a little.

i think she looks terrible in the dress and why is a teenager allowed to go to this kind of function??

Kimebear...that is a very valid point. She is only 17! She has time to find her groove and clothing style. I didn't find mine until early 30's. The only problem is she definitely has the eyes of the world on her. Again...it wouldn't be a bad thing if she had some cousinly intervention.

Ah, yes. 'Tis too true, also. I'm sure the right bug will be planted in her ear before long.:)

I dont think that taking them to these parties is inappropriate it all. These are more of social get-togethers, not all night ragers. Beatrice and Eugenie are at the ages when girls start doing these kinds of things. And to have their mom with them only means that they wont be getting into trouble.

Bea at a concert yesterday - you can see more pics from that event in Sarah's thread :)

it's completely inappropriate and they're not at an age where they start doing these things. you start doing these things when you old enough, not at 15 and 17. these are adult parties and neither one of these girls is an adult. would you allow you're 15 or 17 year old to go to an adult party? they may be with their mother but that doesn't mean something can't happen.

I attended galas, and parties such as this (not as public), from the age of 15. It's not that big of a deal if they aren't participating in some of the adult activities, such as drinking if it's illegal. What is the harm in them being there? Is it hurting them or anyone else? IT's better then them going to clubs and boozing it up, is it not?

Members of the royal families are expected to socialize on an almost full time basis. The girls are never too young to learn and being escorted by their mother is certainly the safest way to start out. I would have no problem with my daughters attending a gala at that age as long as I was there with them.

I think a parent escorting her teenage daughters to an adult event is perfectly appropriate, but...the parent needs to do some supervising of the children at the event, which I'm not so sure Sarah does...and...Beatrice should never have worn that dress.

Beatrice is trying to dress like a sex kitten when she doesn't have a body for it. If a girl has the body for it even if they're only 17, almost no one is going to complain that its trashy but if she doesn't have the body, she gets put up for some ridicule for trying to be something she's not. GrandDuchess, I see what you're saying about Madeleine but she could get away with dresses like that, Beatrice can't.

why are people in such a rush to introduce underage girls to wearing clothes and socializing with the people that are not age appropriate? as for the clothes being criticized or not according to the body type...i think a girl of 17 wearing a dress like that would look trashy no matter what kind of figure she has. this kind of judgement is why young girls end up with eating disorders. why can't we just let them be teenagers instead of rushing them through it?

Ysbel, I have to disagree with you here. I don't think the issue is Beatrice's body type. It's the dress. It's too mature for her at only 17. That's I think the problem. And it's a very adult party for her to be attending. With her mother as chaperone or not. There will be debates back and forth on what type of party is appropriate for a member of the BRF. Yes, Psss. Beatrice & Eugenie will be expected to attend plenty of parties in their lives ahead, but they are still young impressionable women right now and some parties may be more appropriate than others. As for Pss. Beatrice not having the body, Pss. Beatrice is a normal healthy girl, and quite beautiful I might add. She's not a Hollywood size ZERO, but who really is outside of women suffering with eating disorders or drug abuse? Would you want this for her in order for her to get "the body" for a slinky dress? I think Pss. Beatrice is a fine example to young girls by showing you don't have to be half starved to look good, be healthy and beautiful.

My opinion has nothing to do with her body, and I don't think wearing a dress like that is appropriate for ANY age.

I don't think that dress was appropriate, and I can only imagine the Queen's horror at seeing the pic. :D

But Beatrice is only few weeks away from her 18th birthday, which means legally she'll be an adult then, so I suppose she can wear anything she wants, no matter how trashy.

And as for the girls accompanying Sarah to adult functions, I think it is a generally a good idea. Though Sarah may be a little more liberal in her attitudes that many parents, but I believe she is fairly responsible where her girls are concerned and I think it's better for them to be with her getting used to mixing at such events than out raging at teenage-only events where they can get into more trouble. Just MO, of course.

Is she a friend friend or a "once sat within 50 feet of Bea at the dining hall" friend?

I love the way the media always has to drag a royal into some sort of scandal that really has nothing to do w them. So what if cocaine was found in this girl? What on earth does it have to do w Pss. Beatrice? They go to the same school? Were on the same ski team? The girl's mother works for Pss. Beatrice's uncle. Come on . . . it's shameful to associate Pss. Beatrice w this girl and her problems. Any excuse to throw a royal name into an article in hopes of boosting sales and interest.

I think she was a proper friend from what I vaguely remember reading.

The dress is, IMO, terrible for a child to be wearing, it shouts trashy and the fact that she does not have the figure for it, makes it worse but, what can anyone expect, her mother has no dress sense either.
