If this worthy cause is something that Beatrice plans to become seriously involved with on a long-term basis, perhaps her non-working-Royal status will be a blessing as she would be able to be more outspoken and "political" than a working Royal. Time will tell.

I didn't like the 1940's outfit she looked like was playing dressups and the makeup was way too harsh and I don't think she considered the stairs the slit was too high and really it was pretty boring. Can't say I think much of this green outfit either. So she isn't in the States doing a finance course maybe it's later in the year the timing seemed a little odd.

Princess Beatrice At Amos Bursary

Via Twiiter @AmosBursary
Last Week The Amos Bursary was paid a Royal visit last week by Princess Beatrice of York. The Amos Bursary gives young men of British African/Caribbean heritage (schools in London) opportunities to develop as future leaders and access to top universities and careers.

I am coming round to the opinion that Beatrice really has no idea what she wants to do. She doesn't hold down jobs for more than about 9 - 10 months (twice) and then takes about a year off in between jobs before getting another one.

Her degree is in History and History of Ideas but she wants to work in finance and business - which doesn't really go with her degree.

She screams to me that the family didn't give her appropriate advice when she entered university or earlier about her role in the family so she followed William's lead and did a degree she enjoyed studying while at uni (nothing wrong with that) with the expectation that she would be working for The Firm but now, half a decade on, that hasn't materialised and she is left unable to get a job, no worthwhile resume (employers don't like to see people leaving after such a short period of time and then doing nothing for over a year before trying another job).

She needs someone to sit her down and knock some sense into her. Partying and holidaying all the time is NOT a good look for the royal family - for any member of that family. She is a constant source of bad publicity.

It seems as if no one cares about the PR implications of an unemployed and almost unemployable princess who spends her life partying to all hours of the night. Along with the negative press around her father this isn't a good year for the Yorks and the intense dislike of this branch of the family will affect any good will that other branches may have.

The young lady can afford to take some time and figure out what she wants to do. That's a beautiful thing. She's not spending her time falling out of clubs, dating anything and everything that moves, she's not causing any PR crisis, and she's not doing anyone any harm. There's many people out there (wealthy or not) like Beatrice, who's taking some time to figure their lives out. She'll land the job that's right for her.

I find it hard to believe that she wasn't told that she couldn't just become a full time Royal as a career prior to university. Edward and Sophie not giving their kids the HRH would suggest that indirect line royals kids would be full time royals when adults.

Eugenie has figured it out. Bea could do charity work and keep her profile lower if she wanted. Maybe she should go spend some time at Aunt Anne's and she can put straight

I have no problem with Beatrice as the oldest of Prince Andrews children being prepped for royal duties. What the British Royal family should do is put a time limit on the service of its serving royals this waiting till they die off before they are replaced is half the reason why they have popularity problems in my opinion. It should have a retirement limit placed on the second level royals other than the reining monarch and his/her children. The rest of the public service royals should be chosen for the job based on their public standing they are afterall public servants valued by their ability to connect with all areas of the public. I see Beatrice as a suitable candidate representing young women of Britain. The royal family is nuts not to have her onboard working as a role model connecting with young women of Britain. They are fools if they dont mix it up because the only public they are connecting to at the moment with the royals they have doing public service are old age pensioners and young married couples. They are boring as hell and really need to bring some diversity into the fold. Just imagine a world where Princess Beatrice is attending royal functions wearing some jewels from the family vault escorted by Prince Harry perhaps if Davo wasnt available. Young royals is what that family needs otherwise when the old ones die off whose going to be there to take over?

I think it's pretty clear and has been for a long time that Beatrice isn't wanted as a full time working Royal and I doubt this was kept a secret. I just think she is mucking around until she get's married. She is in her mid twenties she should know by now what she wants to do. She has had finance jobs and resigned from them both so I don't really believe it is what she wants. What happened to the course in the US? Or was it a lie to make people think Beatrice was actually doing something besides holidaying this year? Being seen out at a club to 2am does nothing for her no one takes her seriously because she doesn't take her work seriously. There are plenty of courses Bea could have done if she really wanted a career in finance. Working for a few months then taking a year off seems to be her style which sadly makes her come across more as her lazy mother. If she doesn't want to work be honest about it because it looks worse quitting after less then a year then doing nothing for 12 months. Just marry Dave and do a bit of charity work let's be honest she doesn't do that much of that. Going to a party to me doesn't count as work. I thought she and a group of rich over privilidged kids got together to form some sort of charity? Or has that gone to the wayside cause it messes up all their vacations etc? Eugenie seems to have found her niche way faster then Beatrice. Young girls need role models Beatrice is not a role model she can't stick to anything and puts her holidays first she spent four years studying a degree which is pretty much useless to her what would she show young girls? Most people do not have their dad paying their bills for them and a trust fund to fall back on. Beatrice has no idea about the realities most girls her age have to face how could she?

You know, she needs to fish or cut bait...She has no need to work ever so and if she does not care to or have no ambition fair enough...she should be honest about it and be a socialite who dabbles in charity. This hobby job trifling thing she has going on makes her look ver bad and disingenuous.

I really do not understand all the harsh and judgemental posts about Beatrice. She may not be "needed" but she is certainly "wanted" just as much as William and Harry. She is as much her grandmother and grandfather's child as any other.

She is in the fortunate situation whereby she doesn't have to punch a card, nine to five, five days a week. That in itself seems to be cause for much of the self-righteous sniping about her work ethic merely being a cover for a jealous streak a mile wide. Even the Middleton children didn't seem to need a nine to five job and their parents are perhaps not quite as wealthy as the royals, so it is not uncommon to look around to find your own niche.

The most important thing is that Princes Beatrice is just that, a princess and she is entitled to her rank. She is not falling out of clubs drunk, but she is leaving at the same times as many others after a night out. That does not give the BRF bad PR and for those who think she should never work for the BRF, I fail to see how someone who does not work for it should bring bad PR to it.

She is a private citizen and does not need to tell us anything about her plans or her future. Her cousin William certainly didn't when he left the RAF, so why should she? Just because we don't know what she's doing does not invalidate any charity work she is doing, that is just bizarre. Further, this sort of oblique threat, "if you don't tell us every little thing about your personal life we are going to start calling you nasty names big time" has got to be one of the weirdest threats/promises I have seen written about her.

That is just the issue - she doesn't work for anyone. All she does is bring negative stories about the royals - her constant holidaying and partying is bad PR and if reflects badly on the entire BRF.

They obviously have no idea what to do with her - just as they have no plans really for William or Harry.

The issue comes down to the longevity of the family. Even the heir apparent is now past the normal retirement age in the UK and the next generation aren't needed - yet - but by the time they are needed they will be so used to doing their own thing that the entire edifice could come tumbling down.

I have said it before - the Queen promised to 'serve' for her entire life but should the best way she could be serving now be to retire for the good of the monarchy and thus pass to Charles and William as King and heir apparent so that William and Harry are the front and centre rather than them being into the 40s or even 50s before they are the 'next generation'.

What has happened to Beatrice, and to a lesser extent Harry, is that they are caught in is an unnecessary generation. William will be needed as the heir and then George but by the time William is heir apparent - and that could be another 15 or so years away making William into his mid-40s - hardly young - and the public will be wanting more of the teenage George and the rest of William's generation will be largely irrelevant.

Somewhere along the line the message hasn't been given to these younger royals that it isn't enough to have position and privilege - which they have - they also have to respect their position and partying to all hours of the morning and holidaying every few weeks to exotic locations isn't the look that the BRF needs to be making.

Beatrice is increasingly an embarrassment to her family. She does nothing much and appears totally directionless. The idea of the US finance course was obviously a lie in reaction to the negative press from the third or fourth holiday earlier this year.

She has been badly advised - probably by her father who somehow still feels that his daughters are needed in the family when, in fact, thanks to his actions, those of his wife and their own they are already despised by the British public and could never be sent as representatives of the Queen anywhere on the public dime. When they did go to Germany Andrew had to pay.

She is not just a private citizen. She lives in a public palace where security etc is provided by the taxpayers, even if she herself doesn't have taxpayer provided security it is in her home. That home was even refurbished for her largely at public expense. If she wants to be totally private then she needs to move out of St James' and live somewhere totally at her own expense but she won't do that as she is too enamoured of the 'royal' lifestyle having not realised that it isn't going to be her full-time role - maybe two or three times a year she attends official events and that is all. She is the Prince Michael of her generation - the royal who has to totally make her own way in the world and not one who will represent the monarch and nation.

If she was spending her days doing charity work - off her own bat - with some coverage and then partying that wouldn't be an issue for me but she isn't doing that this year. All she is doing is holidaying and partying.

She, and her father, are still living in the 1950s with regards to the role of royal princesses rather than the 21st century where the children of any other than the heir aren't needed to do royal duties and have to make their own way in the world. With that right however still comes the responsibility of living their lives showing respect for their position. She isn't doing that with constant holiday and parties and make up stories about courses etc.

I think she knows what she wants to do...be a full-fledged member of the Firm, and represent the Queen.

I think her parents have led her to believe she is entitled to that, and she has no real interest in anything else.

I would feel differently about Beatrice if she was supported by the taxpayers, but she isn't. She stays with her father in his official residence while she is in London, but apparently has her own money. Her family has legitimate concerns about her safety, but her father pays for her security.

It would be nice to see her in productive work (paid or not) but she isn't the only History major who struggles with finding a suitable job.

I don't think her job hopping will hurt her future employability. A lot of employers would hire her because of her contacts. She and her family know many important people. In many jobs, it is not what you know, but who you know.

This. I completely agree. So what if she is drifting around, going on holidays with her boyfriend, and basically living off her family until she gets married despite having acquired an expensive college degree?

The most famous young woman in the Royal world did exactly the same thing, and she now goes by the title Duchess of Cambridge.

Many of the same people who denigrate Beatrice call Catherine a "role model". Unlike Beatrice, Kate was not in the unfortunate position of having parents who were notorious for bad publicity.

Beatrice-and to a lesser extent Eugenie-are always being scapegoated because of their parents, imo.

No matter what is said, or what explanations are given, a large segment of the public considers that Beatrice and the rest of the RF ARE supported by the taxpayers!

You can explain about crown estates until you are blue in the face, but they will still insist that, in the end, those estates are truly the property of the public, and therefore the entire RF is living off the taxpayers.

She doesn't live with Andrew in London at all.

She has her own apartment in St James' where she lives with Dave.

Andrew has an apartment in BP for when he is in London. Most of the time he lives at Royal Lodge at Windsor.

We don't know how much 'her own money' she has. We know that Sarah's divorce settlement included about 1 million pounds for a trust fund for each of her daughters but ... she has also said that she has had to 'raid' the daughter's trust funds - hopefully not the capital but only the interest.

She isn't even trying to find work associated with her degree - which again points to badly being advised on her future.

Maybe - but most employers would still baulk at employing someone, regardless of contacts, who quits after less than a year - what would be the point of employing them when the work history says they will only be there for about 10 months.

Eugenie has shown stickability in a job but Beatrice hasn't shown that.
