I would imagine Gran and Dad and all the rest of them breathe of sigh of relief when she meets them in the entry hall these days.

For anyone who wants to know what Princess Beatrice's boyfriend, Dave Clark sounds like, here's Dave delivering a speech for Virgin Galatic:

Strange. He's lived in the UK for so long I assumed he'd have a full English accent but there's still, to my ears anyway, quite a lot of American in it.

Ooh! How very strange! I had no idea he spoke with an American accent, which is what is basically sounds like to me. Those are definitely American "r"s. It sounds more American to me than even a mid-Atlantic accent.

He's lived in the UK since he was 5, but went to the American School in London, so I suppose that kept up the accent, and he studied at a university in Massachusetts for a while.

He sounds like an American who has lived in the UK for a long time to me - which is what he is. It's an American accent with a hint of British here and there.

It's not a pure American accent, it seems more of a hybrid. He pronounced "model" and one other word with a hard "o", we pronounce those words with a soft "o". And there is no trace of a Massachusetts accent.

I'm intrigued. Can you give examples of words with soft and hard "o"s? I'm not being a smarty-pants; I'm genuinely curious. I don't understand how you could say "model" more than one way.

It is REALLY hard to do this in writing. We pronounce "model" a little like "ma-del."

OK. I get it I think; it is difficult to do it in writing. "Mahdel", as opposed to "model". Like "bottle" was so significant in "Love, Actually". But my Aussie ear still hears "model" as normal, and laughs at the "bottle" thing.

Beatrice and Dave have dinner at Nobu:

Princess Beatrice shows off her legs in sexy mini skirt for a date night with her long-term boyfriend Dave Clark | Mail Online

To me, Dave looks like he barely notices her sometimes. Wonder if they actually will get engaged soon, or if the DM is indulging in the usual speculation?

really? that's curious because I get the opposite feeling: that he is very caring and atentive with her, though I agree it doesn't show in these pics

Yes, exactly. The body language generally indicates that he's really in love with her. They're a nice couple.

I had no idea he was American. Just listed to the video and at times he sounds distinctly American, at times a bit British, and some words sound like like an Irishman would pronounce it - neither Am. or Brit.

Sounds like they really want an engagement soon. It could happen after six years together something would be expected. I think they look happy together and maybe Dave is just careful when the paps are around? He always looks happy. I'm sure the press are dying for some new stories of Fergie at war with the Palace about the wedding etc, etc. I actually think that is why they want the wedding so much.

I always thought Beatrice and Dave would get engaged when Beatrice was about 25. She's turning 25 this year.
