You can't really be comparing Will & Harry with Beatrice & Eugenie. The boys are serving officers of the armed forces, and in there free time carry out charitable engagements. Every now and then they may be seen socialising in a London club, but thats nothing compared to Bea, who is seen out 2-3 times a week on average, if not more. She has recently started a degree in South London, but seems to spend most of her time at posh London clubs and restaurants. I accept its early days for the girls and they are very young, but they don't see to be demonstrating serious intent in any way.

Well there seems a serious intent to have a good time and not to let royal duty or study interfere.

Too many parties and too much clubbing during term for a serious student.

They are pictured inside clubs too. Remember the 'dirty Harry' pictures of him copping a feel from some girl and William looking trashed in the same shot. That was in a club. And being seen parting with the like of Christina Aguilera or Paris Hilton isn't doing anything for their image either. Also people are always complaining about how drunk they look while leaving these places. Whether they really are pissed or just blinking at the flashes, it makes those damaging reports of fantastical bar tabs credible.
I vote for private parties personally: as long as Harry doesn't have another fabulous fancy-dress inspiration, there is less room for real embarrassment.

However, I was not a young lady with an HRH Princess before my name and consequently I did not have any thing to live up or obligations (other than not getting arrested and embarassing my family). I think that there is nothing wrong with Bea enjoying the social scene that comes with college life--as long as her grades hold up. For someone with dyslexia she doesn't seem to study too much, and having working with young person with dyslexia I do know they need to spend more time on their studies--it just looks like she may not be doing so, what with all the parties, club anniversaries, and uncombed hair flying about. I do think in this difficult economic time that she needs to curtail her nights out and at least appear to be more mindful of others.
I think its absolutely right that we have all had a good time in our youth, and it is only right that the York girls be allowed to as well. Its just that she is hardly ever photographed at doing what might be called student type things. London is full of student venues, but I don't think Nobu or Whiskey Mist are part of them.

And then there is the issue of the economic environment, and how people might interpret Bea's partying. At least the Wales boys have not been seen out in London with any regularity for some time now.

I think you may find when you look at the press around the time that the boys and their friends just happened to be at a club where Paris and Christina were, and that it was Paris and Christina who wanted to chat with Wills. Facts aside, I don't believe there is anything wrong for the boys to be seen at a club in London every now and then - thats what young people do. As regards whether they appear drunk, firstly, I think it is difficult to tell from pictures, and secondly, whats wrong with having one extra sherry once in a while, if you are not going to be driving back yourself.

Where in my post did I suggest otherwise?

That's really beside the point. I don't have a problem with them letting steam off, but the conversation was about damage control in a time of recession. Having the Prince publicly carousing in elite clubs and being associated and pictured with the like Hilton is damaging to their image, even if it only happens once every two months. That kind of image is what remain in the public psyche, not the public engagements. Unfair, yes, but a fact.

You misunderstood my point. I don't care if they drink. But when they go out the club looking worse for wear, whether because they are drunk or because the flashes and angles makes them so, they give an opportunity to the press to write about their 'bacchanalia' and their 'ginormous bar tabs'. Of course all that is tabloid exaggeration and in many cases plain fabrication, but it harms their image anyway.

I think you can't live your life in fear of what somebody might say. You have to do what you think is right in the situation. In the context of the boys, they have to make sure they are not seen out drinking in expensive places too often, and I have to say, thats what they seem to be doing. There will always be people who will find something to complain about - if Paris Hilton walks over to Wills when he is in a public place and talks to him briefly, thats no negative in my book. If the tabloids want to talk about it, so be it - no person with any judgement will bat an eyelid. And those that do, should be allowed to whinge in peace!

Just wanted to see if anybody would react to that. I read somewhere few years ago that it was getting very trendy to drink sherry again -so not just the preserve of grand mothers!

Thanks for the links, giov. Personally, I can't see the point in hanging out at a club 3-4 times a week. That would get very tired pretty fast for me, but then I've never been the club kind of girl. Seems like Pss B is looking to keep her name and photos in the news. I agree, not a good thing for her image. I wonder if either of her parents has made mention of it to her.

Beatrice just appears to be carrying out the same social schedule as the rest of her set.

In years past it might have been parties at the country houses. These days it's clubbing at Boujis. The York girls (and the Wales boys) are not the first generation of royals to have very active social lives. They are just the first generation to have said lives very publicly reported on.

The country parties had one small difference, they were usually during the weekends, the only problem with Princess Beatrice having such and active social life is that it seems to be carried out during the week when she is having classes and should be studying, especially if she is dyslexic as we have heard. She is probably not very interested in what she is doing and if this is so she should find another course that captures her interest more and I am not talking about charity work. I have never heard if her current boyfriend is studying too, if so he must be very relaxed about it too.

Unfortunately, a lot of college students have to flail about a bit before they find something they are interested in. If Beatrice is indeed not interested in her course of study, I would hope that she looks further until she finds what genuinely peaks her interest.

I don't believe that Beatrice's boyfriend is studying anything. AFAIK, he is already well established with Virgin career-wise.

I wish the "kids" would be left alone. Their lifestyle is not any different from other young adults that have some money and lots of energy. Don't you all remember that partying didn't impact neither studies nor work in your young days.

Their social life is clubbing - sometimes 7 days a week. They'll grow tired of it like the rest of us. The York princesses are both pursuing higher education which in royal circles is not a given.

I hope they enjoy their young and carefree days.

Actually in my experience partying during work days has always had an impact, of course if you are student that has no need of study and has wonderful grades, then go ahead. You do have a point about most people in royal circles donīt pursue higher education, perhaps that is why these girls donīt seem to be taking it very seriously, they wonīt need it so why bother.

Also, as a few people have pointed out, none of us were/are held up to the expectations of being royal. So it's really irrelevent to anyone - except our parents or teachers - how many times we go out partying and how smashed we are upon return and if we can or can not get up the next morning for class. Pss B (and E) are royals and along with their lives of great priviledge come some restrictions and responsibilities. I don't think anyone would mind seeing them out having fun at a club or high-end restaurant if it were balanced with - as someone earlier posted - with more charity work and maybe a few visits to cultural spots and museums.
