He looks fine in glasses...I'm surprised there haven't been more pics if he does need them for driving and stuff like that. There's always laser eye surgery though...

Yeah me too, well almost 30 years, wearing glasses for near-sightedness. The photographers, I notice, didn't get pictures of him actually in the box. It's interesting. I am not sure if the press did get any photos of him actually in his friend's private box (I don't remember what friend, but some wealthy breeder, according to the Telegraph report). Didn't they only get photos of them walking around to talk to people?

Another possibility is that his near-sightedness is minor. I can tell you that mine is very severe; without glasses, I am legally blind, and I come by this because I have heavy near-sightedness from both parents. But with William, I don't think he has heavy near-sightedness on both sides. I believe The Queen uses her reading glasses when she makes speeches (this a far-sighted problem that often only comes because of advancing age). So William could have, say 20/40 or 20/50 vision and drive better with glasses, but see just fine doing normal things like walking around. I don't know. It's speculation. But just ideas.....

Tatler has a cool feature on William's inner circle...it gives background info and other little tidbits about the Prince's posse. It also includes Harry's friends but they all seem to be mutual....

Oh well 'Highgrove set' scoops are always a delight. It's too bad William doesn't hang out with Jimmy Tollemache anymore, not since Jimmy wooed his Arabella. Another member of the set I haven't seen in ages is that hot Etonian friend of Harry, the really handsome guy who seemed like his permanent sidekick through most of his Eton years, but after 2003ish I can't recall seeing this guy anymore. I think his name is Simon. the Team Highgrove site has him on their friends' list. Tollemache is a cutie too. Maybe the Princes eventually weed the cute ones out because there is a danger of the cuties wooing the royal gal pals away. They would woo me away, that's for sure!

There's one girl included that William apparently dated before Kate...named Olivia Hunt. She is not cute...the other love interest, Jecca Craig, is pretty. The Van Cutsem's too aren't bad...other than that...

Same day: Prince William in Glasgow (Abaca)
He visited the BAE Systems Surface Fleet Solutions shipyard and had a tour of HMS Daring. Prince William is the Royal Navy's (honorary) Commodore-in-Chief for Scotland. (Additionally, he is CIC for submarines.)

Both engagements: FA and Glasgow

I notice that his hard hat at the BAE shipyard was labelled "HRH The Prince William." I think the "the" is a mistake, albeit doubtless a small insignificant mistake. Technically, I believe the only members of the royal family with that all important "the" after the HRH are the children and consort of the Monarch.

Well, Prince William is fulfilling more naval/marine engagements. Today he went out to the Royal Marines base at Faslane. Prince William is Commodore-in-Chief for Submarines, and for the Royal Navy in Scotland. Faslane is home of the UK's 'Trident' submarines. If I understand, the Daily Mail informs that Faslane has two of these 'Trident' craft. They go on about how William rode along with Marines commanders in one of the 'ORC's (Offshore Raiding Craft) which operate to protect the sub's while they move in and out of the base.

Question: In the UK, is the Royal Marines part of the Royal Navy? I ask because in the US, the Marines are technically part of the Department of the Navy. I guess you could say the US Marines are a separate service, but rather than having their own department, they fall under the same department with the Navy. I'm just curious if it is the same in the UK. Most of the US military format is by and large copied from the UK....

Yes it is similar here. The Royal Marines are known as the UK Navy's amphibious infantry.

There's no need to ask Skydragon again as she has already posted the Clarence House announcement at post 67 (10 October).

William is definitely doing stints with the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force according to the press release to which Warren kindly points the way. It will be interesting to see if he does any time in the Royal Marines, as he would be the only royal to do so besides his uncle Prince Edward, and Prince Edward did not complete the basic officer training. It was an odd choice for someone like Edward, going from the Royal Marines to the arty musical theatre stuff. I'm not saying it's unheard of, but.... and again, I might be wrong, but I imagine one just doesn't see too many ex-Marines going off to serve coffee for Andrew Lloyd Webber?

No but there was one on TV last night who has won a competition (on TV) to open a restaurant with some chef or other.

Wills enjoys the limelight as Diana inquest casts shadow over royals

HAIR slicked back by sea spray and flanked by Royal Marines, Prince William sped across the waters of the River Clyde yesterday as he took part in military manoeuvres, then settled comfortably into his public role by opening a social club

The Scotsman - Wills enjoys the limelight as Diana inquest casts shadow over royals

Also from the article - However Brian Hoey, a biographer of Prince William, said: "The inquest has been planned for months. They know this will divert attention and I think it's far too coincidental - perhaps it is to try to help keep Williams mind off of the inquest?
